Software Suggestions?
As I'm sure you all know, there are many, many open-source PHP applications out there. And very few of them have enough documentation.
I'm getting tired of raiding SourceForge and other sites in attempts to find the software I need. So maybe you all can make some suggestions.
1) I need a content management system.
I've installed phpWebSite, only to find that setting permissions for other users doesn't work (at least, not that I can figure out), and there doesn't seem to be a way to limit access to content. (I want certain pages to only be visible to a certain class of users.) Also, I can't easily drop PHP code in the pages.
I also tried eGroupware. That has permissions, but it's not the right kind of software for me. And the user interface kinda sucks.
2) Chat solution: I would prefer something PHP-based so I can tweak it, but I'm getting desperate enough to try anything. I don't want constant page refreshing, and I want to be able to show who's in the chat room on my home page.
I had posted about IRC scripts a few days ago, as IRC makes a lot of sense -- people can access it on any platform, or from the web. But I have no place to host a bot, and I don't know enough about IRC to know what server to use.
Please note that I can't afford to buy anything, so it's gotta be open source or freeware.
