my head is about to pop.

This is sort of a confusing issue at first, but I'm at my wits end and I can't stand it anymore.

I decided in my infinite wisdom a few days ago to try out the new PHP5.. so I apt-get'ed it, not noticing that it replaced php4-gd with php5-gd. Well the forum on my site is pretty much a massive polished turd, and development stopped on it about a year and a half ago. It's not compatible with PHP5, so I decide to upgrade my forum to PHPbb2, but I changed my mind because I realized I didn't have a script setup to port over the forum messages.

Soooo.. I apt-get remove PHP5 and reinstall 4, with php4-mysql and php4-gd. Well GD no longer works on my site. I have tried everything I know of under the sun, and I'm at my wit's end. I've removed PHP4, all extensions AND Apache, I've tried php4-gd2, I've tried patting my head and rubbing my stomach. I just can't get it to work. And no errors show up in my logs... at all. It just doesn't do anything...
