Welcome to Plot and Purpose

Hi, I’m Jess, a writer, reader and creative writing facilitator based in Leeds.

Plot and Purpose is a space for people who want to write with more attention and intention, and to stay connected to creativity even when life doesn’t follow a neat or predictable storyline.

Here, writing isn’t about productivity or polish. It’s about noticing, reflecting, and making meaning. One sentence at a time.

Why this space exists

Over the past few years, I’ve found myself slowing down and re-evaluating how I work, create, and tell stories. During that time, writing became less about output and more about presence.

Returning to the page through observation, memory, and detail helped me reconnect with myself and with what matters. Plot and Purpose grew from that practice.

This space is rooted in the belief that writing can be a steady companion: something you return to, rather than something you have to master or perform.

What you’ll find here

For now, Plot and Purpose is a place for gentle, thoughtful writing-focused content.

You can expect:

  • writing prompts and exercises to help you get started (or start again)

  • practical tips and reflections on craft, attention, and creative process

  • occasional personal reflections from my own writing and life journey, where they feel useful or resonant

The rhythm may change, and the shape may evolve, but everything here is designed to support curiosity, experimentation, and a more connected writing practice, even if you only have a few minutes.

About me

I’m an award-winning writer with an MA in Creative Writing from Newcastle University and over a decade of professional experience in storytelling and communications.

I’m currently working on my debut novel and developing creative writing workshops rooted in attention, observation, and lived experience — welcoming spaces for people who are curious about writing, whether they’re new to it or returning after time away.

My work is interested in how small, specific moments can hold meaning, and how careful noticing can transform everyday experiences into story.
