Most Think Trump Is Hiding Epstein Info

January 18, 2026 at 7:35 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

CNN Poll: “A two-thirds majority of Americans say the federal government is intentionally holding back some information about the Epstein case that should be released, while just 16% say the government is making an effort to release all information possible. The remainder say they haven’t heard enough about the case to say.”

Melting Ice May Make Greenland More Valuable

January 18, 2026 at 7:22 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Arctic is warming around four times faster than the rest of the globe, exposing natural resources, opening up potential shipping routes and prompting an increase in activity among military powers,” the Washington Post reports.

“The changing landscape has created a region ripe for opportunity — and potential conflict — factors that may play a role in President Donald Trump’s sudden quest to obtain Greenland.”

Europe Weighs Going All-Out

January 18, 2026 at 7:20 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Donald Trump’s decision to slap tariffs on countries that have shown support for Greenland is pushing transatlantic relations to a breaking point as EU leaders contemplate ways of retaliating against Washington that until now have been unthinkable,” Politico reports.

New York Times: “Officials and outside analysts increasingly argue that Europe will need to respond to Mr. Trump with force, most likely by hitting back on trade. But doing so could come at a heavy cost both to the bloc’s economy and to its security, since Europe remains heavily reliant on the United States for support through NATO and in Russia’s war with Ukraine.”

CNN: A stunned Europe finally wakes up to Trump’s Greenland threat.

Trump Wants Nations to Pay $1 Billion for Peace Board

January 18, 2026 at 7:18 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The Trump administration is asking countries that want a permanent spot on his new Board of Peace to contribute at least $1 billion,” Bloomberg reports.

“According to a draft charter for the proposed group seen by Bloomberg, President Donald Trump would serve as its inaugural chairman and would decide on who is invited to be members. Decisions would be taken by a majority, with each member state present getting one vote, but all would be subject to the chairman’s approval.”

Voters Narrowly Support Maduro’s Removal

January 18, 2026 at 7:17 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “Voters are divided on the Jan. 3 military action, with 49% approving and 47% disapproving of the raid in which U.S. Special Forces bombed targets in Caracas and captured Maduro and his wife, transporting them to the U.S. to face narco-terrorism charges.”

“There is a stark partisan divide—89% of Republicans support the operation, while 86% of Democrats disapprove.”

“A majority of voters rejected deeper U.S. involvement in Venezuela. Respondents opposed having the U.S. ‘run the country’ by 57% to 39%, suggesting little appetite for an open-ended U.S. role or nation-building mission.”

Economists Shrug Off Trumponomics

January 18, 2026 at 7:15 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Economists have learned to stop worrying about Trumponomics,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“After President Trump announced his ‘Liberation Day’ import tariffs in April, a group of economists regularly surveyed by The Wall Street Journal slashed their forecasts for economic growth in 2025 from over 2% to a measly 0.8%, measured from the fourth quarter of the prior year.”

“But as many tariffs were scaled back and the impact of the remainder proved more muted than expected, forecasters pushed their estimates back up. Increased investment in artificial intelligence last year also helped drive growth and productivity. Forecasters now expect gross domestic product, adjusted for inflation, grew 2.3% in 2025.”

U.S. Shuts Off China From Venezuelan Oil

January 18, 2026 at 7:12 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Wall Street Journal: “Ultimately, the slowdown in Venezuelan oil flows threatens China’s status as the world’s most prolific oil buyer. The country has shopped for heavily discounted crude from places like Russia, Iran and Venezuela, but as its options become more limited, it risks slowing down its buying as the global oil market anticipates a supply glut.”

Greenlanders Protest Trump’s Takeover Plans

January 18, 2026 at 7:09 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“For the first time since President Trump renewed his campaign to take over Greenland, people across the Arctic island braved the freezing temperatures and took to the icy streets on Saturday in coordinated protests,” the New York Times reports.

“Demonstrators waved Greenlandic flags, as some people openly cried in the rain, at a protest in Nuuk, the capital, when Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen suddenly appeared. The crowd roared as he climbed onto a snowbank to raise a flag.”

FBI Scours Its Records to Discredit Trump Opponents

January 18, 2026 at 7:06 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“The FBI has had many missions in the more than half-century since its founding director, J. Edgar Hoover, died. It has chased spies, foiled terrorist attacks, ushered in a modern era of innovation and decreased crime rates,” the New York Times reports.

“But under its current chief, Kash Patel, the bureau has added payback to its portfolio. Agents now scour the FBI’s vast holdings to root out negative information about President Trump’s perceived political enemies.”

Trump Says He’s Suing JPMorgan Chase

January 17, 2026 at 12:25 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump announced he’s suing JPMorgan Chase “over the next two weeks” — “for incorrectly and inappropriately DEBANKING me after the January 6th Protest.”

NATO Members to Face Tariffs Until Greenland Deal Made

January 17, 2026 at 12:08 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump announced that eight NATO members’ goods sent to the U.S. will face escalating tariffs “until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland,” CNBC reports.

“The tariffs targeting Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland will start at 10% on Feb. 1, Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.”

“The tariffs will shoot up to 25% on June 1.”

Playbook: “Brace yourselves for what will no doubt be a wave of backlash from across Europe, whose leaders this week — along with U.S. lawmakers yesterday — have been trying to assure Greenlanders that no such incursion would take place while also ramping up the island’s defense.”

Financial Times: Trump to hit Europe with 10% tariffs until Greenland deal is agreed.

NPR: Massive protest in Copenhagen against Trump’s desire to acquire Greenland.

January 17, 2026 at 12:03 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump on Saturday called for an end to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s 37-year reign, Politico reports.

New York Times: Iran’s Supreme Leader, unbending over time.

Is Trump Losing Joe Rogan?

January 17, 2026 at 12:00 pm EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“In February 1968, President Lyndon B. Johnson famously lost Walter Cronkite when the renowned news anchor told Americans he could no longer accept the president’s assurances about the war in Vietnam,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“This week, President Trump may have lost Joe Rogan for the prosecution of his own war—this one on immigration.”

“Outwardly, at least, the ‘most trusted man in America’ may bear little resemblance to Rogan, the world’s most popular podcaster. One is scarcely imaginable without a coat and tie, the other tends toward muscle t-shirts and hoodies.”

“But in one regard, they overlap: As Cronkite was in his time, Rogan is now an essential barometer of national sentiment in a fractured and suspicious age.”

Xi’s Enforcers Punished Nearly a Million People

January 17, 2026 at 10:17 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Chinese leader Xi Jinping has directed relentless purges to assert a degree of autocratic control unseen in China in decades, with Communist Party enforcers punishing nearly a million people last year,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“But when it comes to getting things done, he still wants more commitment to his agenda.”

“Weeks before Beijing is set to launch a new economic blueprint for the next five years, Xi ordered the party’s discipline inspectors to flex their supervisory powers even more forcefully and ensure his policies are executed as intended.”

Iran’s Leader Calls Trump a ‘Criminal’

January 17, 2026 at 10:13 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Iran’s leader called President Trump a criminal responsible for the deaths of protesters during the latest unrest in the country, stepping up the rhetoric at a time when Trump has set aside the use of military force for now but hasn’t taken it completely off the table,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The comments come as the Iranian government is expressing greater confidence that it has won this clash with its opponents after cowing protesters with a bloody crackdown estimated to have left thousands dead. In addition to the tougher tone, the government has signaled it will gradually restore internet access after shutting it down for more than a week, a sign it feels better about its control of the streets.”

House Slumped to Historic Lows of Productivity

January 17, 2026 at 10:10 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

New York Times: “House members cast 362 votes in 2025, the second-lowest count in the last quarter century. The only other year in that time frame when the House cast fewer votes was 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States.”

“That was also the fewest votes cast in a nonelection year since 1990. Congressional leaders typically schedule less time in session in Washington during election years to allow lawmakers to return to their districts more frequently to campaign.”

“The record-low levels of activity in the House in 2025 contributed to the fact that very few bills were enacted into law.”

How Wall Street Turned Its Back on Climate Change

January 17, 2026 at 10:09 am EST By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

“Six years after the financial industry pledged to use trillions to fight climate change and reshape finance, its efforts have largely collapsed,” the New York Times reports.
