In-depth and Hands-On Burner Combustion Training: Simulating Real-World Problems and Solutions

Advance your knowledge of industrial burner systems and combustion management with hands-on training at Power Flame’s state-of-the-art training facility in Parsons, Kansas. Led by instructors with years of experience, each course is designed to give you the practical skills and confidence to troubleshoot, maintain, and optimize burner systems in the field. 

All classes take place at Power Flame in Parsons, KS and start at 8:00 AM each day. Power Flame will provide lunch, dinner, and snacks duirng the duration of the training. Attendees are responsible for booking their own travel and lodging.

We offer third-party Purchase Protection service if you need to cancel unexpectedly due to health reasons. Registrations can be transferred to a different student at any time and can be rescheduled up to two weeks before the class date. 100% of the class cost will be charged for no-show or cancellations within two weeks of the class date.

FuNDAMENTALS OF Combustion; 101

Our two-day Fundamentals of Combustion Training; 101 (former Basic Combustion Training) is our most popular class and the best class to start with. It goes over the fundamentals of combustion, safe burner start-up, and adjustment. The majority of the class consists of hands-on training in our training facility with several different burner and boiler packages. We also cover linkage adjustment and touch on parallel positioning.

This training pairs very well with our Basic Controls and Troubleshooting Class; 102.

Basic Controls and Troubleshooting TRAINING; 102

Our two-day Basic Controls & Troubleshooting Training; 102 is a great starter stand-alone class or a perfect pair with our Fundamentals of Combustion. It goes over our most common basic flame safeguard controls. Much of the class consists of hands-on troubleshooting electrical issues on our different burner and control packages. We are able to simulate the most common issues that techs will see in the field and help you navigate to quickly identify and solve the issue using a voltmeter and monometers.

Introduction to Fuel Trains; 103

New class alert!

Our two-day Introduction to Fuel Trains, 103 is designed to discuss all aspects of a typical gas train, as well as the Codes that drive the nuances and differences.  It will cover all of the required components of CSD-1 and NFPA 85 gas trains, as well as how to adjust and set regulators, gas pressure switches and troubleshoot Safety Shut off valves, proof of closure switches and many other items.  This training pairs well with our Fundamentals of Combustion Class, 101.

Cmax Burner
Training; 201

Our two-day Cmax Burner Training; 201 covers Power Flame’s Cmax burner installation, start-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting. Majority of the class consists of hands-on training.

Attending the Fundamentals of Combustion Class is recommended before enrolling in this course.

Director SCS Control TRAINING; 202

Our two-day Director SCS Control Training; 202 covers the complete start-up and commissioning of the Power Flame Director SCS, a fully integrated PLC Control System, powered by Honeywell SLATE. The course curriculum includes theory as well as hands-on training.

Attending the Fundamentals of Combustion Class is recommended before enrolling in this course.

Siemens Comprehensive Controls Training; 203

Our two-day Siemens Comprehensive Controls Training, 203 takes place in Parsons, KS and will focus on the LMV3 and LMV5 parallel positioning systems in detail.  This class will prepare the student to properly specify, install, commission and troubleshoot a Siemens LMV3 and LMV5 control system.  We will also cover HMI’s and expanded capabilities of these systems such as water level control and draft control.

FIREYE Comprehensive Controls Training; 204

Our two-day Fireye Comprehensive Controls Training, 204 takes place in Parsons, KS and will focus Fireye NXF4000 and NXF6000 controls. This class will prepare the student to properly specify, install, commission and troubleshoot a Fireye control system. This hands-on training will stress the principles of operation, technical details and application guidelines for the Nexus product line.

Cmax with Director SCS Controls Advanced Training; 301

Our three-day Cmax with Director SCS Controls Advanced Training; 301 covers Power Flame’s Cmax burner installation, start-up, commissioning, and troubleshooting as well as an in-depth look into our Director SCS, which is Power Flame’s newest PLC Burner Management System. Attending the Fundamentals of Combustion Class is required before enrolling in this course.

Parallel Positioning Training, 302

Our three-day Parallel Positioning Training; 302 will be taught by industry experts and will focus on several mainstream parallel positioning platforms including Siemens Combustion, Fireye Nexus, and Autoflame Mk8. Attending the Fundamentals of Combustion Class is recommended before enrolling in this course.

Class structure & topics

Power Flame’ classes are either two-day or three-day classes held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. covering critical knowledge areas including burner fundamentals, system controls, maintenance & troubleshooting, and specialized equipment. 

Whether you’re new to Power Flame systems or looking to deepen your understanding of specific combustion equipment, we have a course that fits your needs. We offer three different types of courses:

100 Level Classes: These introductory courses create the perfect foundation to our full training program lineup, covering the fundamentals of combustion, burner control, and troubleshooting.

200 Level Classes: These courses offer a deeper dive into specific burners and management systems, including the CMAX Burner, Director SCS, and Parallel Positioning. Attending the Fundamentals of Combustion Class is recommended before enrolling.

300 Level Classes: These advanced courses are ideal for technicians, engineers, and managers who already have a solid foundation in combustion systems and want to take their skills to the next level. Completion of the Fundamentals of Combustion Class is recommended prior to enrollment.
