About Present Discontent

My blog is called Present Discontent,  named so after an essay by Edmund Burke. He of course, is thought to be the father of modern conservatism. Burke was in favor of limiting the executive powers of the King of England and he argued very strongly against unlimited royal power. His thoughts on checks and balances are very similar to our present system of government. Burke favored a political party or parties having a role in limiting the monarch’s ability to abuse its power. Widely held as his most important essay about this was his Thoughts on the Cause of the Present Discontents of May 1770. I feel that this is apropos to what is going on in Washington with nearly one party rule.
