Who We Are

Jim Dean (Jon Gardiner/UNC-Chapel Hill)

Jim Dean, Interim Provost

James W. Dean, Jr. (Jim) serves as Interim Provost.  He served as President of the University of New Hampshire from 2018 to 2024, and as chancellor of the university system from 2022 to 2024.  He was previously at UNC from 1997 to 2018, serving as associate dean, senior associate dean, and dean of Kenan-Flagler Business School, and as executive vice chancellor and provost of the University.  He has a BA in Psychology from the Catholic University of America, and MS and PhD degrees in Organizational Behavior from the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University.  Jim and his wife Jan live in Chapel Hill.  They have two daughters and four grandchildren.
