CHARACTER
CHARACTER NAME: Bro Strider
SERIES: Homestuck
CANON POINT: Post Death.
LOSS: The possession of Lil' Cal; While I feel like memories would be a bigger impact, it's been shown in canon that Bro did a lot of things with Lil' Cal. He was basically Bro's best friend with how he always kept the puppet around and he used him when strifing with Dave and his pornographic website revolved around puppets. I feel like taking his memories would have made it fairly difficult to play the character out as it would be jarring to have such huge gaps you couldn't recall, making it fairly aggravating for the character itself to truly continue his existence. I feel like losing the possession of Lil' Cal would be suitable though. Bro wouldn't have that familial and metaphorical rock he's always had. He'd have to get used to living without Lil' Cal by his side, as he left the meteor with the puppet. Lil' Cal has been a constant his entire life and he'd now have to continue on without having the puppet by his side. It would be a fairly large loss.

ABOUT THE CHARACTER: Bro Strider is a paradox clone who makes up for 1/2 of the DNA used to create Dave and Rose. There's isn't really any information on Bro up until he takes Dave in when Dave crashes into Bro's favorite record shop on a meteor. He takes Dave in, along with the dead pony that was once Maplehoof. From the get go, Bro seems like the type of guy that you don't really want to screw around with. It's also apparent that Bro has a rather eccentric side to him that isn't quite average. This is backed up by the fact that we know that Bro raises Dave with what very few scenes we see of a young Dave and Bro. This is apparent by the scene where we see Dave in a high chair with a bib on. The bib is the same color as Maplehoof and the heart on the bib is the same color as the heart that was branded on Maplehoof's backside. It's a bit odd that Bro would make a bib with the hide. But it also shows that Bro is resourceful, albeit a bit eccentric in his way of thinking. He also gives a young Dave a katana. We know from the start that Bro intends to be serious in training Dave, even at such a young age. It also amounts that Bro kind of isn't the best parent around. He obviously cares for Dave as Dave grows up to be able to play SBURB, but his parenting is unorthodox. This can be seen when he throws a baby Dave across the rooftop (only to have Dave latch to the side of his head suddenly). Bro isn't the best caretaker as seen by how he gives a young kid a weapon, throws him across the roof like a football, and kind of beats the everloving shit out of Dave. Bro doesn't fuck around. That, and Dave is constantly surrounded by phallic objects. Bro is rich as hell. He runs a bunch of websites, one being a pornographic site around the puppets he has all over the place. The place is also swarming with cameras that record movement. It's an odd place to live in, and it does seem to make Dave uncomfortable to some extent in the future. But Bro was a businessman, able to make a killing on his websites and able to support their lifestyles.

Now unfortunately, Dave's life is a hell of a lot of pain and embarrassment for his meager thirteen years of existence. This is because Bro is kind of an asshole. It's not entirely because beating Dave is his favorite hobby or something. He has to beef Dave up big time. As Dave grows older, Bro trains him to be able to handle himself and SBURB. His training, regardless of how harsh it is, is detrimental to Dave's survival in the session. It's not always so, as he kind of picks on Dave by using Lil' Cal to mess with him, but it's still for Dave's sake. Still, Bro isn't the best parental figure, and some of his strifes can be borderline abusive. Neither of them view it that way though. Dave has always spoke highly of Bro to his friends, and Dave looks up to the other (obvious as Dave mentions that Bro was a hero and he wasn't when speaking to Terezi). The thing is, Bro cares a lot for Dave. That's why he trains him so hard. He doesn't want Dave to fail and he did raise Dave all those years. Dave is his little bro/son (He's referred to as a brother, but Bro is technically his father through ectobiology). Dave was always his priority. He wouldn't taught Dave music (as shown with Dave sitting next to Bro in front of turtables), and it seems they do enjoy the company of each other (they'll have hashrap battles and Dave never sounds like he resents Bro in anyway). And if Bro didn't truly care for Dave, Dave wouldn't be so well off. Dave has state of the art equipment of all kinds. He does film photography and develops it in his place. Bro has spent quite a bit of money for Dave to have what he has. You just don't go spending that kind of money on a kid you don't care for. He also takes Dave in. When Dave arrives via meteor at his favorite record shop, Bro takes him home. It's likely that Bro was expecting it though, which implies that the other had knowledge of SBURB that the kids didn't know.

Speaking of SBURB, we really should get to that. When we really start seeing Bro around, it's when Dave starts getting ready for SBURB. Well, we never really see Bro around all that much. He's elusive, as mentioned by Dave. Bro is quick on his feet and he's a bit of an enigma. He's mysterious and secretive. This is backed up by Dave's pesterlogs about Bro in which Bro doesn't seem to be around (he does have all those cameras in the house though) and how fast Bro is. His speed is obvious when fighting against Dave and how Dave can't even lay a hit on him. The guy doesn't seem to want to make himself seen unless he has to be. You don't really know much about Bro other than his websites and the small details of their apartment and what Dave seems to know. Dave seems to get the feeling that Bro knows more than he lets off, but he never seems to actually tell Dave much. Bro doesn't seem much like a talker in general though. The note that Bro leaves for Dave for their rooftop strife was pretty concise. Short and sweet. He doesn't intend to be roundabout and gets to the point. Bro has a fairly serious streak in him. Either way, Dave never really ever sees Bro around, but Bro is there.

Bro seems to be a very big advocate of tough love. When Dave loses his copies of SBURB, he has to try and get Bro's. Bro, of course, makes this difficult and doesn't let him near his copies until they commence in a strife. Of course, Dave gets the shit beaten out of him and loses, but Bro probably never intended for Dave to not get them. He leaves his copies of the game with Dave when he flies off on his rocket board. Bro still loves the kid, and he knows that Dave needs the copies. And without Bro's help, Dave probably wouldn't have been able to get into the server anyways. When Bro shows up again, is when the meteor is coming down on Dave. It's obvious that Bro wants Dave to succeed. He bides Dave time to enter the Medium by literally slicing the meteor in half so that it doesn't crash right into Dave and gives enough time for Dave's entering item to hatch and bring them in. His hoverboard also catches Dave when he's falling from the tower, keeping his lil' kid safe from harm. It's the most he can do since Dave will have a lot to do during the session.

From then on, Bro goes back to being an elusive. Dave actually will never see Bro again. The next time he sees Bro, it's Bro's body from his losing battle with Jack Noir. Bro is presumably off doing important things behind the scenes. We see him beating the shit out of monster and whatever, but like a lot of the other guardians who are involved, it seems like they have a knowledge about the session already. Rose's mom seems to do a lot of things behind the scenes and so does Bro. He helps Dave out, but not in an obvious manner. He sticks to staying in the shadows while Dave does what he needs to do.

Like all the guardians, there seems to be an amount of knowledge that they all hold. When Bro fights Jack for the first time, they're pretty evenly match, but the fight doesn't end with a loser and winner. Bro plunges his sword into the Beat Mesa they were fighting on top of before disappearing again. He cracks it a bit and leaves his sword there. It's very likely that Bro was trying to initiate the Scratch. Or at least, slowly start the process. There's no real reason why he would have tried cracking the Beat Mesa and absconding without his weapon.

Bro's final moments end up in the Land of Wind and Shade. He gets his rocket board and ends up meeting Jack again, who returns Bro's sword to him for their battle. Davesprite also joins in and their fight commences between the three. Unfortunately, Jack receives the final prototyping, making him much too strong for Bro and Davesprite both. Dave gets injured (although he survives and is able to flee), but Bro is killed.

ABILITIES: Most of Bro's abilities are within the human range. A master swordsman and a great fighter, but you can't probably put it on a superhuman level. He's probably the best you can get at his level, but he's no Superman. However, one ability that does stand out that surpasses that of an average human is his agility. His speed is unmatched, which is referred to flashstepping. The naked eye can't keep up with him when he flashsteps. Other than his ninja-like abilities, Bro sits on the human side of abilities.

THIRD-PERSON WRITING SAMPLE:
It had never been about him. It had always been about Dave. It was Dave's time to shine. He thinks that there was one time where he was the one meant for more. Decades too late. A time that was not his. But that's not the point. He's trained Dave for this moment. He's taught the kid whatever he could in these short thirteen years. Dave was going to be a fucking hero. He was made for it. It's been harsh. He knows. He fucking knows. But it was important. It was needed. If Dave wanted to survive, he had to play with the big kids. Get down and dirty if he wanted to be on top. So Bro had to be hard. He had to give Dave a hard time. Fight until the kid was sore and maybe even a bit black n' blue. But Dave got stronger out of it. He grew.

The time had finally came. SBURB. Of course the kid has to be a shit and lose his copies. Fuck, he isn't even surprised at this point. But it meant that Bro had one more lesson for Dave. Dave would soon have to be on his own without Bro being right behind him every step of the way. Even if Dave didn't know he was there, he was. He watched the other grow up. He had his back. He didn't make it known, but he did. He's sure Dave knew. He thinks Dave knew. It doesn't have to be said.

Bro left a note for Dave. He'd be here soon with Lil' Cal. Their last strife, he's sure. Once this strife was over, Dave would be dealing with shit by himself. It'll be the last strife they have. Bro has an agenda and Dave will have one too. He'll be too busy with his own objectives. Bro was there to help, just not obviously. He'll help the kid out with his game. But that's what you do for someone you raised and cared for. That's what you want for them. To be successful. He wanted Dave to beat this.

He hears the door open and Dave arrive, sword in one hand, Lil' Cal in the other. It was time. Bro raised his sword. Sorry, kid. He was probably going to beat the ever loving shit out of you. But it will help. And he knows why you're here. Regardless of whether or not Dave can somehow beat him or not, he has to give Dave his game copies without outright just giving it to him. That's now how it worked. To get something, you got to earn it. Bro was going to make sure Dave earned these motherfuckers.

FIRST-PERSON JOURNAL SAMPLE:
shit. this is some video game voodoo magic all up in here.
im alice and ive fallen down. welcome to wonderland or something.
followed a little white rabbit. had tea with the queen of hearts. she made an attempt to off my head.
she missed. big time.
actually. id like to submit a complaint form. bitch needs to learn to aim better.

got your attention yet? bored you half to death? i aint even started.
but i dont feel like really being the damsel in distress. i dont need saving. i just need information.
none of this welcoming committee bullshit that i know us newcomers must get all the time.
i want fucking info. things that might actually be important.
one person bemoans me by saying that we cant leave or yadda yadda yadda can choke on a dick. im pretty sure i already know some answers to the general rookie questions. no need to belittle my intelligence with inane bullshit.
tell me something that might actually be of use. i got shit to do.
dont waste my time and i wont waste yours.

this goes without saying but hit me up. if youre here you fucking know who you are.

Revised Sample:
lets just get to it.
im new and i know the basics. cant leave. no shit.
some of you have been here longer than i have.
i want to know what you know. not what i can parse from normal observation.
what you know from being here. events thats passed. actual information. things the average person might not have access to.
i have shit to do. i know you do too.
so lets keep this quick.
tell me what you know and what youre willing to tell me.

INTENT: I'd like to give Bro some kind of closure. And also to really have him interact without having Lil' Cal and because we don't really get to see many sides of him in canon. I'd like to play out different parts of him that usually wouldn't be present because of the nature of his canon.
