Underworld Exploration Primer for Original Dungeons & Dragons

Happy New Year folks! I typed up a rules primer for the various mechanics associated with underworld exploration in original Dungeons & Dragons. This was something I did for players in my current games. I like my players to be aware of the game rules so that they can make well-informed decisions during play. I thought others out there may find such a document helpful. Or not. Of course, this document will contain nothing new or exciting for those who have played the original game extensively.

ArneCon 3!

ArneCon 3 is getting close (October 10th through 12th)! I went last year and had a good time. Like last year, the convention falls on my birthday. This makes it easy for me to pitch to the family how going is a present to myself. Even if the sessions fell flat, I’ll get some downtime to relax and enjoy myself. Anyone else going this year? If so, feel free to send me a message. I would happy to meet up and have a drink.

Peace

Plant Lore and Healing Remedies in D&D: Belladonna (aka Nightshade)

As mentioned in my previous post on wolfsbane, poisonous and medicinal plants have always been a part of Dungeons & Dragons. In that post, I briefly discussed how wolfsbane and belladonna are functionally complimentary in D&D since these plants were primarily used to either repel werewolves or, in the case of belladonna, potentially cure a character inflicted with lycanthropy (cf. DMG pp. 22, 220; and Moldvay p. B38). In this post, I’m turning my attention to additional potential uses for belladonna (aka deadly nightshade) in a D&D campaign.

**All information in this post regarding the uses of various plants are for gaming purposes only. This information does not represent actual medical guidelines/recommendations.
