For your consideration:
I just saw this today. It is completely deserving of the Golden Globe Best Picture. I hope it continues to be recognized. 11 BAFTA nominations as well.
It follows the story of Jamal, born to the slums of Mumbai who goes on the game show "Who Wants to Be a Millionarie" at the age of 18, all in the pursuit of his childhood love Latika. As he is asked the questions, we are given a look into events of his life that teach him the answers. Of course growing up in the slums, he did not have a pleasant childhood. He and his brother are orphaned, meet Latika, are taken to an orphanage, escape, and take up numerous less-than-legal jobs to survive, including a stint at the Taj Mahal giving tours to gullible foreigners and stealing/re-selling shoes. His brother eventually gets involved with some gangsters and he and Jamal part ways, reunited only shortly before Jamal's appearance on the show.
The film is exciting, humorous, and uplifting. Go see it and be sure to stay for the credits. You'll love it.
