10:22 pm - Fun in the Sun
I got my ears pierced today... finally! It was fun, I went to Infinite, which cost an arm and a leg, but worth it. I couldn't stand to go to one of those dirty mall places that do it with a gun.

Oh yeah, and South Street is my favorite place. Ever. Hoorah for puppy dog socks, mushroom soup, and Bible Bars!

12:46 am - New Job
I'm finally working as a vet tech! On Monday I started working 3 days a week at Chestnut Hill Veterinary Hospital. So far it's great! The doc and the other techs are really nice, helpful and teaching me a lot. At this point I am still getting used to the routine, learning where everything is, trying not to get eaten alive by the psycho yellow-naped Amazon who lives at the clinic, etc. Pretty soon I'll start practicing drawing blood, helping with surgeries and anesthesia, and fun stuff like that. Even just helping with appointments is a lot of fun because the vet specializes in avian and exotics so I am learning alot about them. And now I really really want to get a parrot some day...

I can't wait until my summer class is over and the Vet Tech National Exam is behind me *trembles in fear* so I can work more hours there.

09:32 pm - Good News
The ratties are doing great... I think the worst of all this is over. I suspect Radar had some sort of underlying problem unrelated to the URI. Over the past few months he was slowly losing weight, while Mandu was still normal. I also have been noticing that their cage would get SOAKED with pee within a matter of days, and their water bottle was emptying exceptionally quickly. I suspected it was Radar who was pu/pd and now I know for sure because now that he is gone, so is the excess pee. It was probably some sort of renal disease... not much you can do for a rat with renal disease. Even so I would have though he wouldn't go so suddenly.

Darwin's foot is much better. The swelling is almost entirely gone, though he's a wee bit sore and stiff and I won't be letting him have free time for another few days. He resents me for that, but hey. ;)

And the best news of all... I'm getting more rats! My friend works at Petsmart and she told me they have in a bunch of new baby boys. How can I resist? Mandu is getting lonely, he was very close to his brother Radar. He does not get along with Darwin and Fievel very well, but I think he would be fine with one or two baby boys. I'm still debating whether or not to get one or two... I'll be keeping any new rats in quarantine for a a few weeks (gotta be safe, I don't need any more rat drama...) so I wouldn't want a newbie to get too lonely during that time. Although I'm sure that if Mandu doesn't end up liking him/them, the other guys will accept him just fine. They are very easy going fatty ratties.

Now I have to manage to get through the weekend without exploding. I'm so excited! I'm picking up my new boys on Monday afternoon!!

10:59 pm - They sure do like to die...
This one was unexpected. Usually I can tell when their time is near... but Radar was his sweet happy healthy self last night. My silly shy snuggly sweet runty little guy is gone. They all have a mild URI and are on antibiotics, but they are not actually "sick." Just some sneezy sniffly-ness. Everyone is eating and playing, but now Radar is gone. He was fine last night. Everyone else looks fine tonight. I am afraid to wake up the morning because I don't know what I will find. Or maybe I just shouldn't go to sleep.

Radar is the fourth rat I have lost since Christmas. Plus Snoopy, my dear 10-year-old chicken. I guess that is the problem with having a house full of elderly pets. It is hard not to get overwhelmed with all of this. Oh, and on top of it all Darwin (the cutie in my icon) decided to twist his foot... On Sunday morning I found him hopping around his cage, holding his left hind foot up, which was red and swollen to three times it's natural size. He's okay though, a little ibuprofen, cold water hydrotherapy, and no free range time until he is better. The swelling is already down and he's bearing weight on it.

Despite it all, I can't see myself ever NOT sharing my life with at least a cage full of rats. They are my soul animals... once they caught me 5 years ago, there was no turning back.

09:57 pm - I can't forget about Landon!
I haven't posted here in such a while, I thought I'd better update about Landon! He's getting SO big! Last time he was at the vet he weighed 27 pounds... the week before that he weighed 20 pounds!

He's pretty insane. he's at that age euivalent of the "terrible twos." He's still really nippy when he plays but he ever so slowly getting better. At least he stops biting when I say "Out!" if only for a second or two before biting again... Other than that he is doing wonderfully. Housetraining has been so easy, he hasn't had an accident in at least a month I think. He looooves to go for walks, although he is still convinced that if he tries hard enough, he can eat every single leaf in the forest.

Two weeks ago I took him to class with me. I go there a little early so I could have time to settle in..haha yeah right. I am in a vet tech program, so my class if full of animal lovers. We closed the door and I let him loose.. he was a very good boy, he ran around and said hello to everyone, then flopped onto the floor by me and slept soundly through the rest of the class. He gonna regret when the test comes along though... ;) Anyway, now that midterms are over, I'm going to bring him to class with me as much as possible.

Anyway, enough with the chitchat, on with the pics!

Aren't you proud, I learned how to do a cut!!Collapse )

10:00 pm - Oh yeah... i have a puppy
So it's been almost two weeks now, and I haven't even posted about Landon! I've been so bust taking care of him, I've hardly even looked at my computer. Which is a good thing. I'd rather look at my puppy. :D

He's wonderful. He's a very good little puppy. So maybe he has an obsession with biting hands, anythink fabric and dangly, the floor, the walls, and carpet, my bed, Rocky's fluffly little tail...

He already knows sit and "park time" and come and (sometimes) rest. And he's only 9 weeks old! He can go up the stairs, but he can only go down 4 or 5 steps at a time. Rocky either hates him or ignores (just out of reach though) which drives Landon crazy, so he's always having hissy fits.

Oh, and he's SO FLIPPIN ADORABLE.

Today we went to Petsmart with some other puppies froom club, because we had a little table with info set up. It was awful not being able to let anyone pet him or let him run around on the floor and play with the other dogs. I felt like a meanie hogging all his cuteness for myself. He still has 4 more weeks to go before he's completed his shots and can be let down on the ground in public places... and best of all that's when everyone can PET him! I've also taken him to the Library and the bank. He's getting very heavy to be carrying around... I think it's a silly rule. :(

Right now he's rolling around under the bed making weird little gremlin noises and chewing on the bed tie-down. Hee!
