St. Joseph's Society – Second Collection, Feb. 22

A Message from Archbishop Smith

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

I invite you to support the work of the St. Joseph’s Society, which provides for the care of our retired priests.

For many years, these men have served faithfully in our parishes, celebrating the Sacraments, preaching the Gospel, and accompanying the faithful in times of joy and sorrow. Their ministry has contributed much, often quietly, to the life of the Church throughout the Lower Mainland.

In our Archdiocese, priests are responsible for contributing to their own retirement through a pension plan administered by the St. Joseph’s Society. Given their modest income, the Canada Pension Plan provides only limited assistance. As priests grow older, medical needs and the possibility of assisted or long-term care can place significant burdens on their resources.

Although no longer assigned to parish ministry, many of our retired priests continue to serve by celebrating Mass, hearing confessions, and offering spiritual guidance as they are able. Their service reflects a lifelong commitment to the vocation they received at ordination.

Your generosity to the St. Joseph’s Society helps ensure that our retired priests are cared for with dignity and security. The Society assists with housing, medical care, and essential daily needs.

I ask you to express your gratitude for their years of faithful service by contributing generously to the St. Joseph’s Society collection.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Archbishop Smith
