I found Tox by a mention on a web page, and decided to try it. Due to my platform of choice (Lenovo Tab3 7 running Android 5.0.1) I had to download the APK using the TOR browser. Installation was then straightforward and it works perfectly! The only slight problem is that I can't find the ZX-ing barcode scanner (device too old) but I was able to copy/paste Tox IDs. File transfers work as do calls.
It's really good to see software like this, especially when it works on my ancient tablet - I got it very cheap, for fun. The only think I can't find is a donation button.
