COTD: One without good judgment volunteers to bury explosive in grassland (8)

This is from Times Cryptic Crosswords, volume 19, crossword 28, 8 down.

I'm pretty sure the answer is MEATHEAD. What I don't understand is why it's the answer.

A MEATHEAD is "One without good judgment", and presumably grassland is MEAD. Where does the rest come from?

P.S. First post to this subreddit. Please let me know if I break etiquette.

Edit: Apologies for the wrong prefix. I can’t correct it from my phone.

Great questions. Answer is as u/alfadanne says. I've updated the post to be more clear.

"Minumum effective dose" program

I just want to say thanks to Greg for answering the question about "what's the most I can get done in the least amount of time?". I didn't ask the question, but as a busy dad, it was the exact answer I needed to get going in the gym.

In case it helps others, here's the program Greg outlines in the podcast.

Any infelicities are mine, not his.

Work out two days per week:

Day 1

  • Squat

  • Overhead press

  • Rows / pull-ups

Day 2

  • Deadlift

  • Bench press

  • Pull-ups / rows (whichever you didn't do on day 1)

Notes

Each workout should take ~45m.

Big lifts

i.e. Squat / Press / Deadlift / Bench

  • 3 sets to failure

  • Start at ~15 reps per set, err on the side of low (16-18 first week is fine)

  • Each week, add 2.5kg / 5kg to the bar (5lbs / 10lbs)

  • When you can only do 5 reps, go back to your 15 rep weight and repeat. You'll be able to do more than 15 reps.

Upper back work

i.e. Rows / Pull-ups / Chin-ups / Pulldowns

  • 3-4 sets

  • “Just hammer 'em”

  • If >15 reps, add weight

  • If <6 reps, take weight off

Visiting neurologist soon

mumak

I'm new to all of this too—I'm still waiting on my neurology referral. I have found Visiting your doctor on the UK Epilepsy Action website to be pretty helpful.

I've made a document, and have pasted the questions from that site, along with a bunch of thoughts I have and things I'm worried about. So far it's helping me worry a bit less.

Also, lots of people have encouraged me to ask whatever questions I have, no matter how silly they might seem, and to make sure I get answers.

Good luck!

November 16 Daily Thread

I tried the 5/3/1 for beginners from the website. I couldn't figure out how to complete it in the hour that I get to spend in the gym. (Seriously, was I doing something wrong?)

Switched to a standard 4 day a week 5/3/1, 5x5 @ FSL, followed by the recommended assistance work. So far so good.
