Updated 2 Nov 2008: You don't need this any more. The current default sitescheme works beautifully in Opera without needing any work-around. If you're an Opera user who's deeply attached to the "New Tweak" site scheme, though, read on.(Hrm, I can't tag entries when posting from
IJ mobile? Drat. I'll add tags later then.)
So! I have finally located a work-around for a long-standing irritation of mine: InsaneJournal's total lack of menu when viewed in
Opera. (We won't even get into the fact that the menu doesn't appear anywhere unless JavaScript is enabled, because that would get me ranting and we'd be here till Christmas.)

The menu is coded to disable itself when it detects any version of Opera. The site needs to update to a later version of the menu (any version released in the last three years should do).
You can work around it by setting the site-specific preferences to Mask as Firefox.

I have a few thoughts on that.
- OMG I see the menu! Yay!
- Wait, IJ just needs a newer version of some JavaScript and everything would work? Is that right? If so, why on Earth hasn't that happened yet?
- If I set Opera to mask as another browser, won't that skew IJ's stats so they think nobody's using Opera -- even though I am using Opera and would happily identify it honestly if that just, y'know, worked.
Anywhere, there's your Opera workaround. It still doesn't let me right-click menu items to open them in background tabs, but I suppose that's too much to expect of one revelation.
