Arts Alive!
My new home and studio are located in the lovely, historic little town of La Conner, WA, on the banks of the Swinomish Channel. I love it here...some of my new neighbors are hawks, seals and blue herons, and the actual humans all seem to be warm, interesting people.
La Conner has long attracted artists and writers, and this weekend will be celebrating the 33rd annual Arts Alive festival, November 3, 4 & 5, 2017. I'm honored to have two pieces included in the Skagit Artists Open Juried Show, and there are art shows and exhibitions all over town this weekend -- come visit!

I Was Wandering Through a Local Thrift Store...
...up here in my new little town of La Conner and found two 1912 Christian Herald magazines among the old issues of Time, American Boater, and Better Homes and Gardens. As I paid for them, the lady at the desk observed that they were "kinda skinny" so she only charged me a quarter each, instead of the usual 50 cents. Be still, my wildly beating collagist's heart!

Kollage Kit Returns...
I was "otherwise engaged" this summer, as were many of my friends on the Kollage Kit website, so we took a summer-long hiatus...but now we're back!

That Day at the Lake
"That Day at the Lake" is a recently-completed artist's book. Background images were printed on tissue paper, and then spray mounted on pages made from remnants of an old player piano roll. The player piano paper is interesting -- ivory colored and very transparent. The Images are collaged from magazine scraps and inkjet pictures, the text is original. Covers are ivory cloth-covered boards, with the cover image printed directly on the book cloth. Size: 7.75"h x 6.0" w, 22 pgs. Here are the beginning pages:

A Fresh Round of Tricollage
Three collage friends (me, Sabine Remy in Germany, and Josephine Wicherts in Holland) periodically complete a round of three-way collaborative collages, nicknamed "tricollages." This time each of us created two similar collage starters and then circulated those to the other two for completion. It has been fun to see the similarities and differences in each set. Here are the results.

Working on a New Altered Book...
"Self Culture" is an almost-completed altered book that offers advice about living one's life on the wilder side. The original book is a slim late-1880's volume entitled On Self Culture in Phonography, written entirely in phonetic shorthand as a "vade mecum" for the intellectual, physical and moral betterment of young men. ("Vade mecum" apparently means a useful guide that one always keeps handy on one's person for easy consultation.) I've printed the background images on some used teabags, and then collaged some human/animal hybrids on each page. The text is typed in on my vintage Adler typewriter. Here are a few pages:
