About Relai
Relai was founded in 2020 by Julian Liniger and Adem Bilican in Zurich. The app is deliberately designed to be simple and intuitive, allowing anyone to buy and sell Bitcoin within minutes. Unlike other platforms, Relai does not hold customer funds in custody. Instead, we empower you to take control of your financial future with a user-friendly self-custodial wallet. In 2025, we surpassed 1 billion USD in total volume and reached 500,000 app downloads. We also became one of the first Bitcoin companies to obtain a MiCA license from the French Financial Markets Authority (AMF).

Relai Story
2019
Julian joined forces with Adem. The young team started working on an idea of a hassle-free Bitcoin app at the F10 hackathon in Zurich, Switzerland.
2020
After months of sweat, blood, and tears, the Relai app hit the app stores. We finished the year with a total trading volume of CHF 2 million.
2021
Raised CHF 2.5 million in Series A, launched Relai 2.0 with lower fees, more features, and a simplified interface. We reached 50,000 app downloads.
2022
Added new instant payment options, including VISA, Mastercard, Apple Pay and Google Pay. We reached 100,000 app downloads and $100 Million lifetime trading volume.
2023
Raised USD 4.5 million to strengthen our position as the leading retail bitcoin-only on-ramp in Europe. We launched Relai Business and added zero-fee trading. Reached 250,000 app downloads and doubled our revenue year-on-year.
2024
We reached 400,000 app downloads, won “Best Crypto Startup” at the 2024 Swiss Crypto Awards and closed our Series-A funding round.
2025
We crossed 1$ billion in total volume and 500,000 app downloads. As one of the first Bitcoin companies, we secured a Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) license from the French Financial Markets Authority AMF. We also launched a dedicated Web App for Relai Private and Relai Business clients.
