“New” AziLoop.

The new solid Spiderbeam mast has arrived in Salzburg. I am now using the extremely robust bottom 5 elements of the 18-metre Spiderbeam HD mast. The clamps for the upper points of the loops have also arrived. All that’s missing now is the top cover and the right weather for installation.

Lesotho reactivated.

Image

Ultimate Radio from Maseru, Lesotho, has reactivated its transmitter on 891 kHz and can be heard here in Salzburg on the Africa Beverage antenna at around 2030 UT, despite interference from Algeria and a station in Holland. I was able to hear the station in 2016 and also received a confirmation at that time.

Radio Kano, Nigeria.

I’ve been hearing a station on 729 kHz on my Africa Beverage in the evenings for days and couldn’t identify it for a long time. January 9, 2026, however, there was an advertisement for an company from Nigeria. And with that, it wasn’t far to Radio Kano, which has been broadcasting since 1946 from Nigeria. And also on 729, which isn’t even listed in the WRTH or the MWLI. But now that the station has been identified, there’s also a Facebook page. It doesn’t refer directly to 729, but there’s a label with 729 on it in the photos and also in the studio background. I received a friendly confirmation from the seldom heard station today.

Philippines.

Africa again.

Tonight, there were again some nice signals from southern Africa on the mediumwave band: the religious station Radio Pulpit from Pretoria could be heard on 657 kHz via the transmitter in Meyerton, preceded by Magic 828 from Klipheuwel on 828 kHz and now Radio Lesotho on 639 kHz. Beverage 200 m, direction 145°.

Last night, January 1, 2026, the new year brought some very nice signals from southern Africa on the mediumwave band. I was able to hear the following on my Africa Beverage antenna in Salzburg:

639 2255 LSO Radio Lesotho, Maseru/Lancer’s Gap, 8709 km
828 2338 AFS Magic 828, Klipheuwel, 9089 km
1179 2202 MOZ Emissor Provincial de Zambezia, Quelimane, 7683 km
1260 2203 MOZ Emissor Provincial do Niassa, Lichinga, 7155 km
1548 2345 AFS Radio Islam International, Lenasia, 8391 km

I was particularly pleased to receive Emissor Provincial do Niassa, which only became possible after Radio Dechovka was switched off on 1260.
