Personality: "A fine sea breeze. Foretelling its death is a hoax in poor taste. I'm Ringabel, or so they call me. I've no memory, you see? A bit cruel, eh? Still, humor's welcome when you haven't a clue to your past. None save this book. But its pages hold no history-only the future. And more importantly, a woman. We've yet to meet, and I'm in love. My angel of fate. Could she be... nearby?"There are odder things than being an amnesiac, and truly odder things than being an amnesiac with as... funny and cruel a name as Ringabel, of all things. But, well, those things are truly still odd, and Ringabel is as odd and suspicious as they come.
Disregarding his oddities and... questionable priorities (which will be covered later), Ringabel is without a doubt the owner of a temper as calm and "suave" as his voice, which hints at a rather confident personality. Having woken up in the continent of Caldis with no memories and possessions which were... foreign at best, absolutely nonsensical at worst (a "future diary", of sorts), it's easy to say that this pompadour-donned lad took everything surprisingly well. After all, he'd integrated himself somewhat into the workings of the kingdom of Caldisla, calmly worked to deconstruct the contents of the journal, and resolved himself to look for the "angel" whom so frequently adorned its pages (one Edea Lee).
Odd, indeed.
It's this calm and levelheaded approach to most things that makes Ringabel both an infuriating and reliable presence. Were it not for his casanova ways and frequent mingling of women within the constraints of a rather urgent world saving quest, it would be simple to dismiss him as a mere weirdo who's terribly hard to unnerve. After all, this is a man who's taken the helm of an out of control airship with no hint of panic, piloting it to a steady point with only mere recognition of its name in the pages of his journal as hints of his should-be confidence. This is a frequent pattern within the game--big thing happens, everyone freaks out, Ringabel stands there with a hand to his chin and "hmms" a bit. Not to say that he doesn't have his triggers--he's easy to fluster and anger if the buttons are known. Hurt people he cares about, for one. Return his affections when he all but expects the complete opposite reaction, another. Outside of that, most of the time he'll offer one or two lines, whether they be calm or completely off-topic and missing particular urgency, which aligns quite well with his description of himself in D's journal: "taciturn... and reflective". Taciturn might be a tad bit extreme, as he does speak and finds no trouble in speaking, but it's true that his speech can be... rather blunt. Regardless, he is reflective, surprisingly observant, and prone to getting to the heart of the matter quickly. Whether it comes to dangerous circumstances, or... trivial ones (flirting). Sentences of monologue aren't his thing, but a couple lines about that are straight to the point is fitting enough for him.
Of course, there's more than that to him that can be... frustrating. He does have a bit of a one track mind when it comes to some matters, and while this is both "admirable" or questionable in some ways (especially considering his past memories, which I will get into), this can also be embarrassing, especially when his main questions when it comes to new locations always center around women. It should be noted that these encounters or words are never of particular seriousness, and his forward behaviour never escalates past a woman's reciprocation. Regardless, Ringabel does have a tendency to latch on to a particular thing--a trait that he keeps even in memories of the past. Not to say that he will rush bull-headed into matters that perk his interest with disregard for his surroundings (that's Edea's thing, somewhat), but he's incredibly capable of focusing onto something and... staying on that track for a while. Women, potentially quest-changing details, suspicions on an individual... He, ironically enough, is one for remembering details, keeping up and writing down details in "D's journal" throughout the course of their journey, a habit that hasn't changed and will probably never change. If it's of note, he'll note it--if it's suspicious, he'll acknowledge it as so. He's intelligent, observant, rational, and again, if his priorities weren't a bit questionable in some places, he'd be incredibly reliable! Not to say he isn't, but he's facepalm-worthy sometimes.
Those moments of reliability are also overshadowed by Ringabel's tendency to be a bit difficult to understand. Referencing back to his taciturn and reflective self-described nature, he is one to internally analyze situations and refrain from commenting until he feels the time is right. This is obvious from his reaction to seeing Alternis Dim's face, along with when snippets of his memory begin to return. When he suspects Airy's intentions in Chapter 6, he refrains from sharing baseless conjecture, instead piecing together all the threads on his own by inquiring on seemingly out-of-nowhere things during crystal awakenings, and merely biding his time until the return of his full memory allowed him a clear conclusion. Even then, he only shares the details with Tiz, who he then asks to tell Agnés, knowing his words weigh more in the Vestal's mind than his own. An intelligent choice. When it comes to seeing Alternis Dim's face in Chapter 4, and his own uncanny resemblance to that face, Ringabel merely says that "he's not ready to speak of that", and evades the topic entirely from those that might question it. Again, internalizing the situation and peering through details, and it's not until after he compares Alternis Dim's journal and his own, plus perks up some of his memories by seeing the Dark Knight's face once more, that he relays his thoughts to Tiz.
Note that those moments are limited to situations regarding his memory and regaining it, however. Even before regaining his memories and slightly more serious composure that he had in the past, Ringabel is still fully capable of knowing when to buckle down, even saying somewhat profound things. For example, while en route to Eisenberg from Florem (around Chapter 3), he scolds Agnés for not eating the Eisen flounder that Tiz had prepared for her, calling it rude. He asked her who she thanked "when food is put on the table", elaborating that, it was not only Tiz she had to thank, but the life that had been sacrificed that allowed her to eat. Agnés truly ponders on this and, as a result, becomes slightly more accustomed to eating meat. Ringabel later states that it was the Grand Marshal, Edea's dad, who had taught him that--a moment from a non-remembered time, yet the knowledge stayed with him regardless. Again, he's capable of saying what he needs to, and in a way that's convincing. Intelligent, and also slightly manipulative, too. After all, he uses the charms he knows he has to get to a girl and get her to divulge the secrets of some of the more popular products in Florem. He knew such a tactic would work, too. Still, he is a party character, so he's not malicious at all. In fact, he's loyal and is somewhat (read: incredibly) offended by the notion of using anyone as tools, as evidenced by his very visible rage at DeRosa's use of women to further his own ambitions.
Outside his surprising seriousness and pensive interior, Ringabel does display as a bit of a goofball. Not that he's the cracking-jokes-every-second type of comic relief, but if he doesn't provide a dash of reality in a certain situation, chances are he'll provide a rather incredulous comment that's more than a little unfitting (the party commented on the cries of joy they'd heard in Ancheim upon the wind returning, and amidst people speaking of returning to their families, Ringabel said something about the wind on skirts. No one questioned where that comment had come from). He's also got a flair for dramatics and passion, though most of the time these moments of acting up are hardly serious and instead a bit of teasing towards his conversational partner. The sillier sides of his character settle down when needed to, as stated previously, and he does as a whole become slightly less ridiculous when his memories return... but as of my canon point, that isn't entirely relevant. It should be noted, however, that Ringabel's real identity is an Alternis Dim that had fallen into a parallel world after the death of the main party. As Alternis, he was a solemn, hatred-fueled warrior who would gladly fight to the death for the Lee family, who had taken him from the streets and raised him as one of his own. This explains his attraction and attachment to Edea, who he declares his angel without explanation (and this is certainly something that I imagine puzzles him, as well, before regaining his memory), and his and Alternis's identical faces. Upon regaining his memories he does integrate some aspects of Alternis's personality into his own, which gives him a larger view to the world than just the Lees, darkness, and hatred, but as of yet he has no idea of his origins; he only knows that he and Alternis share a face, but, again, it isn't something he quite wants to dwell in just yet.
All in all, he's as weird as his hairstyle.

Abilities: First, Bravely Default bases itself around a jobs system, which basically means that depending on their access to "asterisks", people can spontaneously change clothes, skills and weapon mastery based on the job on the asterisk, which ranges from things like White Mage and Black Mage to Monk. A full list is
here, with an unlisted "Freelancer" job which is the default class of all Bravely Default party members and requires no asterisk.
Abilities available to Ringabel depend entirely on the asterisks he has on him and which ones he has equipped, though upon using the asterisk for an extended amount of time, he can utilize some "
Support Abilities" from the asterisk without equipping it. Basically, Ringabel has, through the job system, access to abilities such as White Magic, Black Magic, and Summon Magic, and large amounts of physical abilities. As a simple Freelancer, which is the abilities he has available to him without the asterisks, he has access to solely
these abilities, and an average proficiency with most weapons.
While most of the party members are balanced in terms of stats, there are slight, minor variations in specialties. Ringabel himself is the fastest of the main party, boasting the highest Dexterity and Agility, with high numbers in HP and MP as well and the second best Intelligence stat (outside of the Token Mage). In other words, he's durable, fast, and intelligent. Which shows. Kind of. Sometimes. He's observant, we can all give him that much. His Mind, however, is low in comparison--which means, most noticeably, that his healing isn't as efficient as some other members in the party.

Third Person Sample:Obvious statements of the day: the place is
odd.
While whoever had forced him into a place like this took away everything he owned, Ringabel could at least thank them for at least providing him with the means to note things down. The notebook and pencils were meant to be used in their... loving school setting, of course, but for the time being Ringabel's concern is not focused on
class--instead, he's set on some kind of investigation, a "Seven Wonders of Inugami" exploration mystery. The results of such a thing? Not yet completed, but the place is
odd, truly odd, incredibly odd.
The current Wonder under observation: the perpetually locked doors. Not a strange thing on its own. Were he a kidnapping school overlord, Ringabel thinks he'd, of course, do the same thing (not that he sees the point of
being a kidnapping school overlord, nor does he particularly approve at all). Why kidnap
anyone if you leave the front door unlocked? And yet, he's caught people opening that door, always at a distance much too far for him to run and slip out as well. It's a bit frustrating, seeing that bright light taunting him, but--that's the oddity, the "wonder", and the source of his increasing agitation and questioning towards the large double doors looming in front of him.
Which calls for desperate action.
The desperation attempt: waiting, patiently, hidden near the double doors with his notebook tucked away. No success, as no one seems to want to approach the doors at that point. Which leads to moving a little further away from the doors, with his train of thought being that they, perhaps, know. If he's far away, he doesn't need to worry about people thinking his objective was the doors in particular.
The plan, which he puts into action: the doors open, he runs forward, he fails to make it... Try again. And again. And again.
He slumps against the wall after several attempts, sighing to himself as he runs a hand through his hair. He's tried,
tried to make it work... but Ringabel supposes he shouldn't ever think that things would be that simple. Taking the pencil and the notebook in his hands, he begins to write.
Wonder One: perpetually locked doors. As the name implies, it's quite impossible to make it through the doors, regardless of the fact that someone opens them. Troublesome indeed.
Time now for Wonder Two: stairs that go up when they're meant to go down, and
maybe he should get some kind of water for
this observation.

(( previous sample for
synodiporia. ))For many reasons, things feel wrong. Not just a wrong that he's already experienced once-- for the feeling of waking up in Caldisla out of nowhere is not foreign. But, now... The suddenness, the people, the lack of certain people. They had been en route through the Holy Pillar, yet he was certain, quite certain, that he'd merely moved to meet the Dark Knight on deck, the one who-- no, that isn't important at the moment. If he was not on the helm of Grandship, and instead here, as he had woken up two times before... It had to be that Airy had finished what she was to do at the Holy Pillar, or he had somehow... been spirited away from Grandship. He'd rather it be the first than the second, for there is no need to explain why he feels a tad bit anxious about the thought of a ship without its pilot, especially when that ship contained his friends.
A shake of the head. No, it had to be the first. Without further delay, his hands go to the journal that had gotten progressively more familiar as time went on. He flips through its pages, through his own additions. He was to write everything that occurred at the Holy Pillar, so whatever had occurred, regardless of his memory, he would have--
--mere lines about Airy meditating, events fresh in his mind, yet none of the answers that he seeks.
"Odd," he mumbles to himself, flipping through the journal more, hoping that he'd merely penned more on a random page, in the midst of the chaos that was certain to occur... or had occurred, rather, in the light. "There isn't a single..." flip, flip, fip-- "...other thing."
What of Alternis Dim? He hardly recalled meeting him, but they had to. There was simply no way that Airy had finished dispelling the darkness in the time they'd moved to meet him on deck. Ringabel shuts the book with a slight exhale, a hand moving to his chin as he ponders. No... there's simply no point in mulling about the particulars like this now. He... simply had to look. For Tiz, Agnés, and Edea.
Whatever occurred, he'd figure it out with time.
