To anyone who wants to download my vids, now would be the time to do it. I'm closing my site Swirly Things with my current webhost before my renewal is up in February. I may try to transfer to another webhost or find a provider just for the downloads, but I haven't decided yet which way to go. What I do know is I don't have a lot of time on my hands, and moving to another webhost takes forEVER when there are a bajillion vid files to move around. There are even more vids now than the last time I switched webhosts back in 2009. *insert crying emoji*

I wasn't thrilled with my current provider, but I stuck with them out of laziness. Back in 2019, they took over the provider I signed up with back in 2009. Several months ago, I got an email about excessive usage. After some emails back and forth with the account manager, I was able to resolve that issue by cleaning some things up on the backend.

Well, I got another email about excessive usage a couple days ago. This time, instead of answering my question about what exactly the excessive usage was, I got the runaround, and the account manager tried to upsell me into getting another product. I did some cleaning up again, and didn't see any further issues for 24 hours. I emailed back that he didn't answer my question, but I was able to resolve the usage issues in my own anyway. In response, the jerkface account manager mansplained some nonsense about how websites aren't the same anymore. Dude, I may not be the most technical person, but I'm pretty good at Google-fu and was able to fix the problem. Also, I never had these issues with the previous provider back when my website traffic was a lot higher because, you know, I would post more than one vid a year?

I can't abide by mansplaining jerkfaces, so that's why I'm not going to renew with my webhost.

Anyway, I'm open to ideas on where to host my vids!

I missed all of 2021 with no posts, and more notably, not a single vid finished. It's the first year I'd missed finishing a single vid since I started vidding in 2006. I actually started on this some time last summer. Somehow within the past couple weeks, my vidding muse got kicked into overdrive. With other stressors in my life lately, vidding has been a nice reprieve. I had fun with this one!

I will be in Chicago this Wednesday through Sunday for VividCon, first time back in four years! Tentatively planning on dropping off luggage at the hotel on Wednesday morning and heading into the city to do some sightseeing. Not sure what I will do on Thursday. Possibly more of the same in the morning, then back to the hotel to greet people as they arrive.

Anyone free for dinner Wednesday night?

Also, if anyone is still on LJ, this will be my last crosspost. I can't quite bring myself to let LJ go completely. For one, I spent way too much time fixing links after I messed up my website earlier this year. Anyway, I spend a lot less time online these days, so LJ's shenanigans plus keeping track of two journals was getting to be too much.

Never believe me when it comes to Festivids. I made two again this year.
