How does it work?
Register
Let’s start at the beginning – registration. If you wish to participate, you should register. Once registered, on the HackTribe platform you can post your idea and look for teammates or join a team that is lacking teammates. Team formation and idea development will take place until March 28th 17:30.
Please read the Code of Conduct and hackathon Guidelines before registering.
Hack
The hacking starts on the evening of March 28th with a short opening ceremony explaining what’s to come, introducing the prizes and evaluation criteria. Then you hack – work in teams and develop your ideas into solutions and prototypes. During the three days, there are four checkpoints with team mentors to ensure you are going the right way. It is mandatory for the teams to be at the checkpoints unless your team mentor tells you otherwise. Expert mentors will be available for consultations and support on March 29.
Submit
On March 30th, it is time for the final submission of your solutions, followed by demos and pitches in front of the jury. The jury chooses the winners, and they are announced right away. After the hackathon, there are no strings attached; you can freely continue the work on your ideas and solutions.
Mentoring
To ensure great teamwork and results we are inviting experts in the fields of technology and security to join our forces! If you can spare anything from 2 hours on Saturday, March 29, reach out to us via hackathon@rigatechgirls.com
Challenges
Our hackathon invites participants to tackle critical issues with a broad spectrum of themes, we aim to spark innovation and create solutions that address real-world challenges. From automation of different processes to securing the world around us, our challenges are designed to inspire impactful change.
#1 Digitalization of Energy and Natural Resource Management Systems and the Interoperability of Various Systems
As new EU regulations increase sustainability data requirements, companies struggle to integrate diverse data collection platforms, often relying on outdated Excel spreadsheets. Participants are invited to develop solutions that streamline sustainability data collection, management, and interoperability. One possible approach is a unified sustainability data platform with IoT integration, allowing businesses and municipalities to efficiently manage and exchange sustainability data.
Challenge from: Riga City Council
#2 Sustainable Collection and Visualization of Interconnected Sensor Data in the Environmental Sector
Environmental data—such as air quality, noise levels, and water quality—is currently fragmented across multiple systems, making it difficult to analyze trends and correlations. Hackathon participants can explore ways to centralize and visualize this data effectively. A potential solution could be a platform that integrates sensor data, enabling spatial visualization and cross-comparison, helping cities track environmental progress and improve decision-making.
Challenge from: Riga City Council
#3 Sustainable Infrastructure and Resources
Urban infrastructure must support eco-friendly mobility while remaining resilient in various conditions, such as winter weather. Participants are encouraged to propose innovative approaches for sustainable city infrastructure, transport, and logistics. Possible solutions could include autonomous street cleaning systems, resource-efficient public transport, circular economy approaches for road materials, or last-mile delivery innovations like drone logistics and microhubs to reduce emissions and optimize urban mobility.
