Well-known Swiss Investment Bank has an opening of Senior J2SE Developer and Senior Java/Oracle Developer to work at the Bank’s office in London.
Role Summary
Role is for a J2SE developer within the Regulatory Reporting team of Finance & Control IT. This role will specifically be on the FDD Balance Interface (FBI) Proof of Concept project, which will deliver a POC for a high-performance, multi-node, java application to meet the bank’s regulatory reporting requirements.
General Characteristics for success in this role:
- Quick understanding of functional requirements and translation into sound technical designs
- Work effectively under deadline pressures
- Client focused
- Team player, willing to “roll sleeves up”
- Good problem solver
- Strong communicator – identify and document issues
- Experience working with offshore teams and matrixed environments
- Self motivated
Required Skills:
- 5+ years hands-on experience designing & developing high-performance, java-based applications
- Experience of developing distributed, multi-threaded applications using J2SE
- Understanding of algorithms and data structures for high-volume data processing
- Experience of J2EE technologies (particularly JDBC)
- Strong database query optimization skills
- Operating Systems: proficient in development & deployment on both Unix, Linux, & Windows NT/XP platforms
- Object oriented design (incl. GoF Patterns)
- Strong communication and presentation skills
Preferred Skills
- 2-3 years of financial experience (preferably Investment Banking)
- Experience working with distributed teams
- Oracle and PL/SQL
Work Conditions:
This assignment requires a permanent move to London, UK. The candidate will be working in the Bank’s office with her/his team members in an exciting, fast paced working environment, and a culture of mutual respect and teamwork.
The company provides the work permit in the UK. After a year spent on-site, the candidate will have an option either to stay in London, or join an off-shore part of the development team in a senior technical or managerial role.

Initially, the developer will work in a small proof of concept team to develop and prove the key architectural components of the project’s architecture. This will primarily be a Java/oracle implementation, but may also involve assessment against other technology platforms.
Subsequently, the role will migrate into the build phase. The developer will transition into the build teams, using the technical and domain experience he has acquired to mentor new team members on the project.

- Core Java (3+ years)
