I got my hair re-colored tonight. Now, I love my hair guy, but he's. Hm. Enthusiastic?

I'm not saying that cornsilk-blonde and candy-apple red-plum highlights don't look amazing together, it's just a little startling to see that looking back at me in the mirror.

If, like me, you have been mournfully, and with ever escalating levels of rage, searching for blue jeans which are NOT made with the cheap stretchy-flex fit spandex cotton blend that wears out and stretches out and generally makes wearing jeans feel like slopping around wearing badly fitting sweatpants - I have found Real Jeans.

The drawback is that they're a "men's" style (so obviously, they're cheaper, better quality, and readily available. grr.) The plus is that they are 100% cotton, they're $15, and they fit and flatter my belly, hips, and thighs (all curvy) better than any of the various women's jeans I've tried in the last *fifteen years*. And they're from Costco (Kirkland brand). They're made in Mexico, but at least it's closer than China?

I am super happy to have found them, and I may get them tailored a little in the leg, though, since they're a straight cut and shade baggy at the knee. A big part of the fit is that they have a high - think dietrich pantsuit! - waist that doesn't gap, roll, shift, or slack.

It's the little things, but it's amazing how a well fitting garment makes your whole skin fit better.

So perfect.

Sometimes, grief is like breathing, and breathing, and never being able to fill the empty space in your chest.

Soon, it will be a year, and I'll be able to stop saying "It's the first birthday, holiday, anniversary since." and it won't be so hard. The first time's always the hardest, right?

It's not just that I miss her as my mother, I miss her as my friend.

Would just like to point out that I am eating an awesome salad made of diced cucumber, rotisserie chicken, fresh tomatoes, a metric ton of dill, and a kefir based homemade mock-tzatzki dressing over mixed field greens.

I am pretty happy with the world right now.
