(no subject)
bit embarrassing to name them friends
ᛏ tether. ᛞ convergence.
"Sadly, the two of us never had a chance to properly meet. It's really unfortunate, but it seems we're agreed co-workers as of now. This person -- he seems exceptionally kind. No wonder he suffers so much..."
Update. "I hope he'll be able to find happiness in whatever selfish endeavor he wants. Someone that's so loved by others deserves that for themselves."
"Ah, dear. If I knew I would be in this situation... I would've tried to spend more time with Seishirou to build some goodwill. If such a thing is possible. Well, it seems like we're on terms. I can't say they're good or bad, but they are terms."
Update. "Somehow... we're now tethered. Huh. Okay."
"Fate and destiny have never been kind to him. I sincerely hope he'll find a way to rest while he is here. For once the world will ask nothing of him, only people will ... so he can say no, if he wants."
"Someone who feels a little bit like me. I don't know if that's a good or bad thing. But it is something. In any case, we're tethered to one another. Will there be understanding or simply an echo. Who's to say?"
"What a sincere and thoughtful young man! It seems like we ended up tethered together. Should I offer an apology to him now or later...?"
"Young man who can see colors of people and get an idea of how they are. But he doesn't know what any of those colors mean. He seems trusting and kind. Probably easily manipulated, too. If I were meaner, that'd be a problem!"
"A very polite bug man. He seems quite attached to Till and will hopefully keep him out of trouble. Probably dangerous but only if a threat to his loved ones."
"A very serious and responsible young man. He'll probably take on a whole lot of duties that he doesn't have to because he feels he needs to - I feel sorry for him. I might offer a hand if I feel like being a busy body."
"An explorer and someone who sees the world with bright eyes and honesty. I wonder if his vision will start to fade. But if it hasn't yet, then it probably won't! Such people are really strong..."
"Honestly, he's so interesting. I understand the sentiment that people have of wanting to study someone under a microscope, haha!!"
"A dreamseer? Or something close. It seems he's experienced coming to a different world before. I hope his luck continues to be mostly good even if it is bad."
"What a charming teenager. She has a good head on her shoulders in a situation that is beyond understanding. However, I hope there are people looking out for her. She needs more than a wishy-washy person like me worrying."
"Someone who has a lot more connection to the world than I do. He seems to love sincerely and care honestly. However, he feels very much like me. I am sorry for him in that case... and hope he's mostly happy than unhappy."
"What a serious and distrusting young man!! I like him a lot and hope that he continues to question everything around him. Although, I hope it doesn't end up giving him a stomach ache later."
"Mr. Roe Deer. Someone who seems surprisingly guarded with everything. I wonder if that's because of his world or how he is. It might be a bit of everything. In any case, I hope he'll find those that can ease his walls. Although, it probably won't be me!"
"Such a grumpy person. But he seems to sincerely worry about people even if it seems like something he doesn't want to do. Perhaps one day his head and heart will be in sync but that isn't for me to be concerned with."
"An interesting young woman who is very pretty and cute. She doesn't seem to think so and that's unfortunate. I'll try to compliment her when I see her, although I don't think she wants it from me."

SOMNIA-SPECIFIC QUESTIONS
1. Dreams are how Sleep chooses you. What might draw your character into Somnia — a wound, a wish, a weakness? Would they follow the dream, or run from it?
Certainly, there is something admirable about fighting against an entity drawing him into a dream. He wouldn't see any reason, because he would be curious as to see what might happen. While he doesn't have any deep wish or wound, he is fascinated about how the currents of fate roll. Perhaps, what draws him is the desire of seeing if he can actually grow attached to something beyond himself. That alone would be worth his full and complete interest.
2. Somnia is a slow unraveling—of worlds, and of selves. How does your character respond to fear, transformation, and losing control? Do they fight, adapt, collapse?
There isn't much that Yuuto fears beyond the unknown. He didn't feel frightened when trapped in a barrier where the only way he could leave would be to kill the user; he rarely is troubled about fighting to the death; he doesn't balk at being injured since he considers that par the course considering what he's involved in. But yes, he does fear the unknown.
When encountering the arrival of Monou Fuuma, he is the first to call off the fight. He is someone who is quick to adapt to ensure the best possible results for himself (and if it also benefits the other person, so be it). When Satsuki is violently ejected from BEAST, he screams out to catch her in surprise and concern. However, she is quick to laugh the whole matter off -- and his concern immediately fades away. (It may be the concern itself was only there for her benefit than anything he felt himself.)
However, he does what he can to adapt to the situation that is in front of him. But he does what he can to be cautious about what he should be doing. Still, if the person isn't troubled, why should he be? If the situation can be resolved peacefully to ensure minimal damage, why not?
'Course, he knows when such methods won't work. When he goes to save Nataku from Karen, he asks her if she'll back off first, but she doesn't believe he's going to give up on his own. He understands her distrust and accepts that the fight is inevitable.
In short, he tries to be a flexible as he can while still being cautious.
3. Connection is the only constant. What kind of bonds does your character form — fast and burning, slow and wary, deep and desperate? How might that shape their time in this world?
People that have met Yuuto generally feel positively toward him. They often seem to have deeper connection to him than what he feels in return.
Sometimes, it seems like he is manipulating the relationship and emotions of those that know him to view him in a positive light. He brings first-rate sweets to the office; he remembers the names of all his colleagues. He warmly greets and treats everyone who comes to his window at the ward office. Anyone who asks his advice, he gives a heartfelt statement. Yet he's also, in part, assisting with the genocide of all humanity.
When he meets Sorata and Karen, he is complimentary of them. He speaks only positively to them and they respond in kind rather than take his comments as snide remarks (but that may very well be their personalities). But actively tries to kill both of them. With Satsuki, he is slowly teaching her how to embrace her humanity; he's giving her points to ruminate on. But he doesn't do more than offer words than pave the way; he wants her to make the decision herself.
One could say he cares about her, but he doesn't care about her enough.
The same could be said about Kanoe. He's aware of why she's doing what she's doing; he's one of the few people that she's trusted with her reasoning. But he never asked; he cares but did not cherish her enough to ask her on her own. And he doesn't do anything to comfort her fear about Kamui; he doesn't do more than offer placating words about her love for her sister. They're in an intimate relationship, but they both treat it as a matter of course rather than any romance.
Simply, he has it so people think well of him, but his own emotions are only as far as to ensure the relationship remains relatively pleasant. Even if he has to kill them.
4. What are two major forces in your character’s personality that are often in conflict? (Ex: logic vs emotion, power vs guilt, obedience vs rage, etc.)
Apathy versus empathy are often in conflict with what he says and does.
Yuuto saves Nataku yet the two of them have never conversed before. He willingly let himself be put in a perilous situation to protect them. Yet doesn't seem to request any reward or further compensation in friendship or otherwise. It doesn't seem like anyone asked him to do this, so it may very well have been a whim.
Yet later, he finds out the area Karen fought Nataku and him ended up falling to the Dragons of Earth; he only comments that she will probably be upset. However, he doesn't seem any more upset than someone finding out their favorite dessert in a cafe has sold out. It's unfortunate, but nothing life-shattering for him. Despite the hundreds to thousands of lives that are lost.
He watches as Satsuki berates and mentally breaks Yuzuriha down with her questioning as to why it is wrong to kill humans. Satsuki uses BEAST to kill Yuzuriha's spiritual companion and further traumatize the fourteen-year-old. Yuuto only comments that the questions that Satsuki asked were quite difficult and rough, but his own answer for why killing is wrong? Because someone would grieve. He then asks if she's ready to go to tea.
As mentioned, he presents something like sympathy and something like empathy to other people. He talks about how he understands their feelings (and he really seems like he does!) but it ultimately doesn't affect him too deeply one way or the other.
VESSEL SELECTION
Which Vessel Type are you choosing: Token or Offering? Token.
Why does this Vessel type feel appropriate for your character? Yuuto continues to adhere to social niceties even when it "no longer matters." Simply, he's not yet willing to give up the shape of being a human despite what he's decided to align himself with.
Choose one OR list three subclass options within your chosen Vessel type that you think would suit them: Bloodwright (while aquamancer probably suits him better due to being a watermaster in canon, thought it would be better to give him something else that would need him to suffer to use).

I don't know if it's good karma or bad.
Oh. Of course, my karma.
Oh. Of course, my karma.
personality
At first blush, Yuuto comes across as a friendly and cheerful person. He smiles easily; he rarely raises his voice. A lot of his teasing is light-hearted without any bite behind them. When he's concerned about something, he asks about it sideways (wraps the concern up in a joke). If it is something truly upsetting, he'll be far more direct about it.
The persona he presents is an empty-headed, if not easily sympathizing, fool. But he is far more perceptive than he acts. He is able to tell who is and isn't a threat; he analyzes the situation that's happening quickly and as precisely as he can. And while he can read the room, he does try to set the mood subtly in a way that would be favorable to him.
Yuuto is an extremist when it comes to "going with the flow." Despite how much he seems to care about Kanoe or Satsuki, it's uncertain if he'd feel anything if either one of them died. Scratch that -- he would feel sad and may even cry out, but he would most likely move on. The level of attachment they have to him is much different than what he feels to them.
He's a person that doesn't easily become attached to anyone or anything. Most people would have some issue with facilitating in the complete annihilation of humanity. Yet he doesn't seem to have any real problem with his destiny despite presenting himself as the most "normal" of the Dragons of Earth.
Like, his character file indicated that he has a younger sister. It's shown that he calls her often to leave messages for her indicating he does care. However, he doesn't care enough to stop doing something that would potentially get her killed. What he does is just signaling he has concern and love for others; he warns his sister about not coming to Tokyo due to the earthquakes but does it in a half-hearted fashion. What he actually tells her is she should live as freely as she wants; she should do whatever she wants; he'll support her whatever but there's no point in being so serious.
During his short aside, he sees that someone wants to name their child "Kamui" and he has a reaction to the name. The father, in question, wonders if it is perhaps a bad name. Yuuto gives a vague story about how hard someone with that name is having; he seems to feel sorry for the fate that Kamui has been given. However, that seems to really be all it is.
Quite simply he puts on a good show of caring and showing concern for others, but it's uncertain how much he actually feels towards them. One could say he has a certain level of apathy to everyone around him, since he doesn't do anything to stop what they're doing. Sure, he gives advice if asked, but it is just that; it's advice that he doesn't even seem to care if the person carries through with doing or not.
In short, Yuuto tries to present himself as "just a little guy" but he's a sociopathic mess underneath.

background
Yuuto seems like he's going to be important due to showing up in the beginning with all the other important figures, but then the series kind of forget he exists. They also split his role in the movie so he has even less screentime there and the character they split his role with isn't even in the original canon. (That has nothing to do with anything, but also feels relevant.)
- So, he went to the college as the CLAMP School Detectives and friends with Takamura Suoh. This is never touched on the series and more mentioned like as an aside in CLAMP School Detectives. Just to show that Takamura has friends outside of his friend group and that friend is Yuuto. He also has younger sister (Tomoe) that also never appears in canon, and only mentioned in a character file.
- Show up to meet with Shirou Kamui. He does this very inconspicuously by standing on top of a tree and insincerely tries to play this off as normal when confronted by Arisugawa Sorata. They name themselves as what faction they are part of (re: Dragon of Earth and Dragon of Heaven, respectfully).
- Sorata unleashes his super special barrier (that only the Dragons of Heaven can create) which Yuuto mansplains how it works to the person who made it for the sake of the audience that wouldn't know.
- The two get into a fight but neither one of them are 100% taking it seriously. It's mostly shits-and-giggles, but also they probably would rev up to eventually get murderous (who's to say?). However, the fight's cut short 'cause Monou Fuuma bikes into the barrier.
- Yuuto is more upset about this than Sorata. He says they should call a draw and pull the barrier back due to the unforeseen, untested person that just appeared. It seems safer to act cautious, even if he seems pretty carefree. He then decides to shuffle away rather than carry on the fight. So, reason he gave up so easy is to return to the Dragon of Earth headquarters and relay what he's uncovered to Kanoe (fwb who is also in love with her sister but settling for him) and Yatoji Satsuki (teenage girl that he's in a situationship but has a giant computer as a boyfriend who does NOT approve of him).
- And that's the extent of what he does in the beginning series of events. He just kind of fucks around (literally and figuratively) until Shirou Kamui decides to join the Dragons of Heaven and get a psychic alert of who his new boss is. Monou Fuuma is now also going by Kamui. It's complicated. Kind of.
- The Dragons of Earth briefly have a group meeting. Kamui tells them all to just fuck off and he doesn't really care if anyone does anything. He'll do everything if need be. Yuuto is like, "Say less." And he goes back to his actual job of being a civil servant (no, really).
- Kanoe does ask Yuuto if Fuuma is Kamui. Yuuto casually says that he feels like he is and should listen to what he says. She then tells him how terrified she is of him. Yuuto kind of shrug emojis about her concerns.
- His situationship keeps him informed of what's going on so he remains in the loop. Also Kanoe, Satsuki, and he have tea together and gossip; it's somehow not weird at all between the three of them because they all match each other's freak.
- From there, he does occasionally give his commentary as he's watching it happening from the lair of Satsuki's boyfriend computer. A lot of what he says ends up being repeated by other characters, though, which kind of renders what he's said moot. (And he does acknowledge how he's doing jackshit but shrugs about that, too.)
- However, he does appear to protect Nataku (one of the Dragons of Earth doing anything to help Kamui) after they were losing their fight against Kasumi Karen. Karen and Yuuto banter playfully as they try to kill one another, but its put to an end when Seiichirou Aoki (another Dragon of Heaven) arrives to help with the fight. Aoki had been drugged earlier by Karen to keep him out of the fight so arrived groggy and a stab wound in his leg to help keep himself awake. Yuuto and Karen are a bit like, "Damn, man, what." And they call a draw.
- Like, if he had a nickle for every time that happened, he'd have two nickles. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
- Karen asks to settle things with Yuuto later and he smiles. This doesn't go anywhere. Also he was supposed to settle things with Sorata, too? But it's been like six months. They both forgot, I'm sure. A lot's been going on!
- Kanoe is killed. Uncertain who killed her. Yuuto doesn't show up for the Final Battle even though it is the only thing he was ever asked to actually do. Satsuki also isn't present with her computer boyfriend. It's uncertain if those three were killed prior. The end.
