This journal is mostly friendlocked, if you wish to add me feel free, there's a good chance I'll add back. I'm easygoing and tend to natter about all sorts of stuff - not so much fandom as before (and rather more general stuff/studies, but the fandoms they are still there and I still love them and do go back head back when I need to...)
My Fanfiction...
My fanfiction stories big and small have all now been added to Archive of Our Own here and I will keep putting them there, and noting them here with links. All stories are gen unless otherwise indicated, and really don't need warnings IMO. The fandoms I have written in, either as standalone stories or in crossovers, are listed in order of most to least: Blake's 7 The Sentinel Stargate SG-1 The Magnificent Seven The Untamed Primeval Criminal Minds White Collar Stargate Atlantis
... with oddments/crossovers for Doctor Who, Jeeves & Wooster, The Muppet Show, Něco z Alenky / Alice In Wonderland, Farscape, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Miss Marple, Time Team, Chalet School, Torchwood, The Addams Family, Merlin, Miss Marple, Inspector Rex, Looney Tunes and Georgette Heyer.
Each August 2009-2015, I did a few daily icons on anything and everything under the sun for naarmamo... here are the month's galleries for 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009.
I should finish them next time with the last few - I like to put a few days between posts on the same collection, and then get distracted by studies and things :)
Not many left now (I wrote 37 in March, a total I am very happy with even if most were either short or... very short :) and have quite a few prompts I can maybe use in the next session...)
Plus, I finished and sent off an assignment today, two short lifewriting exercises and an exegesis (oh gee what fun). After some dithering, I chose two of the easier ones for a change, so we will see how it is received. For the major assignment, I'm looking at a 1500 word piece that I need to write a proposal/statement of practice by 3 may, and the piece itself plus a contextual statement (whatever that is, I am sure I'm not the only one who will be asking about this!) by the end of May. But I do have an idea! - for a biofiction (a mix of biography and fiction) that may work, which is more than I often have at this point.
For picowrimo, I've been writing fannish ficlets this month from the the 3 Sentence Ficathon 2024 list: as I put them up on Ao3, I'll note the links here. There's quite a range, sometimes only 1 for a fandom, and some (like The Untamed and The Sentinel) a few more :) I'm sure it has been good for me, I must keep writing ficlets, whether fannish or original and may keep using the prompts for inspiration. So far I have put these on Ao3:
- for Blakes 7, on the prompt 'computer issues' computer issues
This years Secret Santa Gift Exchange for The Sentinel now has all the stories and writers revealed ☺ My gift is a funny, sweet and oh so them case and banter, fluffy case fic story...
It's by HiddenViolet and I thank her so much! - and the link to it is here :).
...was written for pattrose, with love and best wishes (and by the sound of my comments with very much of a recognisable style of my own, there were those who guessed it was me! - whether that is good or not and I do hope good) and it's here :)
A muddledy mixture, many done for or inspired by challenges. As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...

Dr Who
Four, River Song and a group of 'dark' ones of baddies
A muddledy mixture, many done for or inspired by challenges. As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
Assorted Film
A few each for Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away, Wall-E, Disney's Alice...
01. 02. 03. ( And more...Collapse ) and just three of Leia from early Star Wars. I do rather love her.
01. 02. 03.
Assorted TV White Collar
01. 02. 03. ( And more...Collapse ) And Miss Piggy, I do rather love her too :)
01. 02. 03. ( And more...Collapse ) Plus just one or a couple - because that's the way the challenges rolled - for Addams Family, Criminal Minds, Wandavision, Jeeves and Wooster, Monty Python, Lost in Space and Bridgerton, .

Sleepy Animals
The original challenge was for 'resting' so I went for a menagerie of sleepyheads, and then added some more :)
Peanuts, Simons Cat, Pusheen, Garfield, a couple of Daffy Duck and one each of Hagar the Horrible (because I had to) and the Dog from Footfot Flats {g}
Many done for or inspired by challenges. As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
These were all done for challenges, twenty of them for just one. I know this is a fairly esoteric collection but as always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
Ancient Detective, Douluo Continent, Joy of Life, The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty, The Romance of Tiger and Rose
The challenge, from monthlyinspo was 'monochrome' so I did a set of four icons for each of these five dramas that I am fond of, each in a different colour... Ancient Detective in green, Douluo Continent blue, Joy of Life brown, The Sleuth of Ming Dynasty white, and The Romance of Tiger and Rose red.
Many of these have been done for or inspired by challenges. As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...

Mostly done for or inspired by challenges (I need to catch up a bit on posting). As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
Doctor Who
The challenge was actually to do icons featuring numbers so of course I did a set of doctors, from Eight right through New Who to the present... They are pretty much all made from scans of the DW magazine covers and there are a couple of Thirteen and one of the War Doctor that were just extras :)
An eclectic lot, done for or inspired by challenges mostly :) As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
The Three Musketeers and the Four Musketeers
The challenge was for our favourite 70s movie. And I loooove these, so made rather more than necessary.
Because the challenge was my favourite fictional invention, and while there are so many others, from a very early age I have adored spaceships, especially the ones that adorned 79s and 80s sf paperback covers (of which there were so many in our house)
An Odd Assortment These are a mixed group, some for gif challenges (the two skating ones I am particularly humbly proud of managing to get seamless, not easy) and some for rather more ecletic reasons :)
As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
Flowers
So this challenge was an alphabetical one, do icons for a set of letters: I happily made I through to T (plus quite a few extra versions for some multi-florally letters) and then reread the instructions that say a sent of five... oh well. Here's umm, somewhat more than five.
Mostly done for various challenges :) As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
china_shop asked for White Collar -- Moz, Neal and June, three-card Monty in the park. Now I admit, I didn't remember at first what three-card monty even was - and I certainly couldn't do it myself :) But this tiny ficlet emerged anyway...
***
Mozzie liked to set up for an afternoon of three-card monte in the same corner of Central Park, under a tree which dappled the light and rustled softly in the breeze. He didn't need to shill for the small (in the scheme of, well, Mozzie's schemes) sums it made in passers-by, and it was more a hobby, a remembrance past of simpler times and simpler cons, a wits-sharpening game from when he was young and - relatively - innocent. Just a trip down memory lane, a bit of good old dishonest fun, as June said.
Sometimes she and Neil would stroll by, looking effortlessly honest and innocent, and June would let herself be drawn in to 'play'. Sometimes Mozzie would even let her 'win', to assure the marks that it was all above board; most of the time, she'd let him 'cheat' her, and laugh and pay up, and that would assure the marks even further. And Mozzie would look small and harmless, even a little dumb, as absolutely no one in the whole of New York could do like he could.
Really, they both thought that in this day and age, it shouldn't still have worked on so many people. Part of the joy was in the simple fact that it still did, and part was in remembering when they were young and just starting out, learning their trade and its tricks and how to make the marks make it work.
Neal just smiled and kept his own memories locked away as he watched them have their fun, and kept an eye out for police... or his FBI keepers, who all three of them knew wouldn't exactly understand about remembrances past.
thisbluespirit asked How about Primeval/Doctor Who - Doctor of your choice + Lester, "That's not a dinosaur, that's an alien." And yes, well... this happened :)
That's Not A Dinosaur...
"...That's an alien."
Lester turned a jaded and less than impressed stare on the latest 'scientist' foisted on him by a government who clearly had even less stringent standards in this field of expertise that the Anomaly Research Centre, if that were possible.
"Really. I could have sworn Mr Temple who is, god help me, one of my senior advisers showed me a picture of it in his enormous reference base."
"Yes, it looks like a dinosaur." The Doctor - Doctor Who of precisely What had not been made clear, which Lester couldn't help finding suspicious - agreed with a blinding grin. "But looks, my dear Sir James, can be deceiving. Take me for example." ( Read more...Collapse )
For watervole, who suggested Stargate SG-1 - humour, preferably involving Teal'c. With the requisite (and all too common for me, I know) warning for silliness...
Shanap
"The General is not going to like this, sir."
"I know, Carter. I know."
"The General is not going to even understand this, sir."
"I know that, Carter. One more word, and you can be the one to explain it to him."
byslantedlight asked "Oh - Torchwood please (but not including the very last series where they went to America, cos that wasn't Torchwood... are we allowed to be picky?!)! Oops, forgot the prompt. Erm... fairy floss, Jack/Ianto at least in the background as a general thing, though doesn't have to be explicit. *g*"
Now this one is probably not very good, I was reminded when I pulled out a couple of episodes just how long it's been since I watched it and I've probably lost all grasp on the characters... but the idea just wouldn't go away :)
In His Own Sweet Time
They all were staring, and Jack couldn't blame them.
It was one thing to see him standing on the roof as they all knew he liked to. It was another to see him standing there talking to.... himself, and yet another to see him arguing with himself, lecturing and laughing at himself, being given the bag with its bright pastel contents by himself. ( Read more...Collapse )
Current Music:Ella Fitzgerald - Nice Work If You Can Get It
pattrose had a cheery prompt: "The Sentinel. What would Jim and Blair do during a Pandemic?
And I meant it to actually be not quite as old school doom and gloom, but... oh dear. The (mild) horror fan in me got away and ran with this dark little mood piece, so it comes with a warning, and under a cut.
Please note, TS is set in the late 90s, so really no internet letting us all connect as we have done in 2020. We would have been much more on our own. ( Not a happy little ficlet, this...Collapse )
jaxomsride2 gave me the prompt Blake's 7 Avon Changing Profession, and I wasn't sure if that meant just putting him into another profession from the start, or changing it after the start of the series.
So I did both. Two ficlets, one set in an alternate first episode, the last yet one more not very serious PGP after the last episode.
(Sorry, some knowledge of canon is probably needed to have any idea what I'm scribbling about, and the second one starts with a twenty-eight-or-so year old spoiler...)
A Day in the Life...
Sometimes, when life is really too quiet and solitary even for a Grade 1 computer technician with the salary to match, Kerr wonders if he might - just might - have made a mistake taking the offer. But not often.
He now works long hours in peace and quiet, in the top-security levels of the Dome, as the senior programmer in the Justice Department. True, the company he keeps is almost entirely mechanical, but that makes it more congenial than people. And out of hours, his private apartment is on the east, upper Alpha sector: tasteful, costly, minimalist. He lives alone, and rarely socialises so living alone is unlikely to change.
Kerr has no problem with it. He does not need people after all. ( Read more...Collapse )
First done of the ficlet writing prompts I asked for is done!
fredbassett said... Oooh, wow! Primeval, please. Something with Lester and Ryan? Either slash or gen would be lovely. Prompt: "Thank you, captain. Your report was a model of brevity. As was Cutter's. Now tell me what really happened.
***
"Thank you, captain. Your report was a model of brevity. As was Cutter's. Now tell me what really happened."
There was a long silence.
"Are you sure you want to know, sir?"
"No, I am reasonably sure I do not, given the fact that Hart, Temple and Miss Maitland are all hospitalised with what - I am told - is an allergy to something which both Cutter obviously suggested that you both describe as "a previously completely unknown organism of a semi-vegetable nature", whatever that means."
The shows being The Addams Family (just two), Merlin, The Hollow Crown (Shakespeare), The Muppet Show, Stargate SG1, The Sentinel, Tokyo Ghoul and White Collar.
Many of these were made for challenges, I thought I'd put them up. Oh well...
As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
Many were made for challenges, and then I kept going on some themes :) As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
The books and reading ones – as you can guess it's one of my favourite pasttimes....
The challenge theme here was purple and yes, some of the book ones I did when making for this as well :) And also yes, there are Despicable Me ones because, well, purple minions....
Favourite places... after dithering about a whole range of ancient monuments I went for Corfe Castle and one for Swallowsnest in the Ukraine (I could have done a heap of castles actually...)
Most were made for challenges, which is why the heap of SGA's Teyla and Radek, and Blakes 7's Soolin (though I do really love them all... and I am now happily imagining a Soolin/Radek crossover :)
This was self-indulgence, but the topic did fit for two challenges! (I will probably use some myself, but thought you might, as I said, enjoy the pretties :) Mostly - though not all - Yuzuru Hanyu and Javier Fernandez because I’m biased (I did say self-indulgence, didn't I?)
Board games? I went for Scrabble because me and words are... well yes :) but I also did a couple of chess ones based on the queen from the ancient Isle of Lewis chess set. Because I love it.
This is a (rather long overdue) catch up on the icons I have done for challenges, plus extras where I made more than I needed - fandoms are Doctor Who, Magnificent 7 (yes, a lot of Ezra, he fitted into several challenges and he's pretty), the Muppet Show, Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis, The Sentinel, Torchwood, Trap Door...
As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
This is a catch up on the icons I have done for challenges, plus extras where I made more than I needed - fandoms are And Then There Were None, Merlin, Primeval, Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis... plus a one of Maggie Smith in Downton Abbey.
As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
This is just the handful of icons I have done this month (AND October, because the start of November was frenetic and I missed it) for challenges, plus extras where I made more than I needed - fandoms are Blakes 7, Magnificent 7 (they asked for an OT3), the old Quatermass shows, Stargate SG1 and Stargate Atlantis, The Sentinel... plus just one each for Death Comes to Pemberley, Pride and Prejudice (1980 and 1995), Pride and Prejudice and Zombies
As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
...and finally and very esoterically, three quotes from my favourite historical person of all time, Sir Sydney Smith (the last one I think I will be using :)
A rather late (due to one thing or another) SG1 Alphabet Soup story, which makes me happy because it's the first thing I've finished in absolutely ages....
The prompt was 'quantum mirror' and my letter was S. I did think about bringing in Sallymarina Moonbeam, (my long time Authorial Insertion) but decided she really would probably any up dead in at least three-quarters of the realities on offer, so.... maybe another time, in another less dangerous fandom :)
Splintered
No one in this or any other reality owned up to breaking it, of course. ( Read more...Collapse )
To go with the book rec just done...? They're not from the book itself (as you can probably tell), but there are so many lovely Snoopy writing pics on the web, I couldn't resist.
This is the handful of icons I have done this month for challenges (plus extras where I made more than I needed) - fandoms are Dr Who, Merlin, Primeval, The Sword in the Stone (Madam Mim) and White Collar, plus several Marvin the Martian ones. Plus just one each for The Crown, The Hollow Crown, The Tudors and Wolf Hall (it was a set on umm, crowns :) and Elizabeth I...
As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...

As always, take if you want, text can be added (or probably changed) if you want, or you can just (I hope) enjoy the pretties...
Going on from yesterday's post, I also decided that a good burr up the bustle would be to join a few low-pressure icons comms; so you'll be getting the odd little collection swept and and posted here every so often.
Like these... just a few of Arthur of the Britons, Blakes 7, Magnificent 7, Merlin, Stargate Atlantis, Stargate SG1, The Sentinel and White Collar.
