About

Welcome to The Samuel Forde Project, a spotlight study on a little-known nineteenth-century Irish artist and his milieu: Samuel Forde (1805-28) and Cork’s early visual arts culture.

The project was born on 29 August 2012 while we were on a visit to the Crawford Art Gallery in Cork. As our own research backgrounds are in History, Literature and Art History (respectively), this project – conducted in collaboration with the Crawford Art Gallery – will touch on each of these areas as it develops. Accordingly, this blog will chart that development from the process and progress of our research to our ultimate quest which is to find Samuel Forde’s lost diaries.

So why not stop by and follow us here (and on Twitter) on this journey into art, literature, history and the life of a forgotten genius.
