Get Your Sanibel Library Card

A Sanibel Public Library card gives you access to books, digital resources, the Library of Things, services, and more. Library cards are available to both Sanibel residents and visitors.

Resident Library Cards

Resident library cards are free for Sanibel residents and provide access to all library services.

Individuals 16 years of age and older may register at the main desk by presenting a valid photo ID and proof of Sanibel residency.

Proof of Residency

Proof must include your name and current Sanibel address. Accepted documents include:

  • Driver’s license or photo ID
  • Voter registration card
  • Mortgage document
  • Vehicle registration
  • Proof of timeshare ownership
  • Utility bill (postmarked within the last 90 days)
  • Standard lease agreement
  • Proof of internship (card valid for the duration of the internship)

Youth Library Cards

Children 15 years of age or younger may receive a youth library card when accompanied by a parent or guardian with a Sanibel Public Library account. The parent or guardian assumes full responsibility for all materials checked out on the youth account.

Renewal and Account Inactivity

  • Library cards must be renewed every three (3) years.
  • Expired accounts may be deleted after three (3) years of inactivity.

Visitor Library Cards

Visitor library cards are available for a $10.00 fee and are valid for one (1) year from the date of issue.

  • Individuals 16 years of age or older may register with a valid photo ID.
  • Visitor cards provide access to both physical materials and digital resources.

Using Your Library Card

  • A library card or valid photo ID is required to check out materials.
  • Patrons are responsible for all items borrowed on their account.
  • If your library card is lost or stolen, please notify the Sanibel Public Library so your account can be suspended until a replacement card is issued.
