Let's talk Twilight, religion and sexism for a minute, 'kay?

I'm a Mormon girl, born and raised right near Salt Lake City. I've played with being inactive over the years, but I know my life would totally suck if I didn't have my religion to fall back on. I have many friends who are not Mormon, and I have never tried to shove my religion down their throats.

And I despise Twilight. As has been stated by many a person over the years, it's all about how important it is to have a boyfriend--an abusive, possessive stalker, nonetheless.

I do not hate Stephenie Meyer as a person. I read The Host and didn't find it too bad, though a very long way from being something I loved. Yes, she wrote a crappy series. But she doesn't deserve death threats for it.

And let me say it right here--Mormons are not anti-feminist, strictly speaking. Feminism is women doing what they want because they want to. So, if a woman wants to be a stay-at-home mom because that's what she wants, not because it's what society expects of her, she is a feminist. Likewise, if she doesn't want to get married, but wants to say single with hair flowing through the wind as she rides through the glen, firing arrows into the sunset, she is also a feminist. What is anti-feminist is a woman who becomes a wife and mother even though she doesn't want to. A woman who really wants to just get married and have kids, but remains single and with a high-paying career because she knows all the flack she'd get if she ever settled down.

Yes, Mormons are encouraged to get married and have kids, and some people will make us feel guilty if we don't by the time we're twenty, but the presidency of the church does not condone such behavior. Every group has its fanatics, and we're no different (don't get me started on all those Mormons who won't drink caffeine or watch a PG-13 rated movie, and frown on such stupid things as wearing denim on Sunday or GASP! red nail polish).

So, yes. I'm a Mormon. I also consider myself a feminist. I believe in equality between the sexes--neither men nor women bound by what society says they shouldn't do. One day, I do want to get married, and maybe even eventually have kids. And I friggin' hate Twilight.

Day 1652--And Then They Made Me Their Queen

Dear women,
If a man's not allowed to do something to you, why the heck are you allowed to do it to him? We ought to be their equals, not their inferiors, superiors, or precious little fragile snowflakes for them to protect. You want him to treat you like a queen, stop treating him like crap.

This has been a Public Service Announcement from the department of Girls Who Are Fed Up With The Crap Other Members Of Their Sex Pull. Thank you, and have a pleasant day.

Day 1--I'm not Evil Overlady yet.

Hi! My name's Nikki and I have golden curly hair flowing halfway down my back, crystal blue eyes, crooked white teeth and hands that are too big. I'm skinny but curvy, and I always wear the cutest outfits! By the way, I like sunsets and long walks on the beach, and. . . </sarcasm> I'm full of crap. Worst of all, I think I'm funny. Heaven save me from myself.
