What We Do

SCOR’s primary mission is to advance ocean science by promoting cooperation within the international ocean science community to achieve goals shared by scientists of the global community. SCOR’s scientific activities include large-scale research projects, infrastructural projects, and working groups.  SCOR funds large-scale research and infrastructural projects to plan and facilitate ocean research through international cooperation. These projects complement SCOR’s long history, and ongoing support for working groups; international networks of scientists supported by SCOR to make progress in a more focused area of ocean science.

By developing and supporting interactions through international networks, SCOR’s activities add value to national and international research and infrastructure investments by facilitating alignment of priorities, promoting comparability of results, and increasing the number of nations and scientists involved in addressing globally important ocean science objectives.
