Got woke up by an email from LJ

It was a comment on vaginapagina.  I vaguely remember it.  Was it a community?  Was it a person?  I can't recall, but I decided to login to see if I could see what it was about.  I could not.  Then, I decided to look at my friends' feed.  There was nothing there.  This place has been unused for a long long long time.

Unfortunately, I don't know of many other community type places that are any good.  I'd like to think livejouirnal was still hopping, but it's not.  I have one friend who autofeeds her twitter updates here.   the rest are just pretty much gone.

Well, I think I like the changes here.

And here I thought this had been abandoned and simply left for the users' benefit.  Surprisingly, there are new features, and I guess I'm back for a moment.  Facebook still isn't fixed, and they haven't bothered to email me any sort of confirmation or ETA on fixing the problem.  and I need somewhere to put my thoughts or I will go insane.  the problem is that I am no longer read here.  I haven't made a new friend here in prolly 10 years.  and my old ones have all but abandonned this place - probably for facebook.  But I suppose it is what it is.

facebook completely unusable today

Well, someone thought it would be a great day to manipulate everyone into using horrible bright red = icons.  OMG they are painful.  Anyway, I guess I won't be on facebook today.  Though, I suppose that isn't a bad thing.  Facebook is not exactly the epitomy of intellectual stimulation and never has been.  But those icons are just too damned much and headache enducing.
That's enough facebook.  I'm not using timeline and if that means not using facebook, so be it.
When I went into business for myself, I understood there would be sacrifices. I understood I wouldn't make as much money in the first year of my business endeavor as I did when I worked for someone else. I understood I wouldn't have health care. I understood I wouldn't have time for a social life, and I understood that every dime I'd make would rely solely on me. Understanding it and living it are two very different things. (Read More)

I've found that, when it comes to saving money on miscellaneous bills, a little creativity, ingenuity, and awareness go a long way. At one point, my Internet, gym membership, and laundry bills cost me almost $2,000 a year. Now, those same bills cost me just $600 a year. At my peak, I was paying $14,336 a year in living expenses. Those costs included my rent, car insurance, cell phone, landline, electric bill, heating oil, and car payment. Since I don't like to be strapped with bills, I made a conscious choice to reduce all my bills no matter what. In the end I decreased my direct living expenses from $14,336 to $9,060 a year.

Rent

One of my first apartments was a one bedroom with a den for $574 a month not including water, sewer and trash. The total monthly amount was $630. While I liked having a bedroom and a den, I quickly realized more than one bedroom was a waste. Plus, I find paying water, sewer and trash for an apartment excessive. Once my lease was up, I opted to rent a one bedroom with the water, sewer, and trash included for $540 a month for a savings of $1,080 a year. (Read More)

Saving Money Through Venders

There is such a thing as Vendor Endcap Management in Retail.  No joke.  I used to use it when I worked in the Foods department at Walmart.

An often overlooked way to save money in small retail is through venders. In fact, I was astonished at how much work venders actually do. I know this because I used to work for a drink distributor. In order to get more of our products in the stores, we'd supply man hours, equipment, and maintenance services. The only thing our customers had to provide when it came to our products was the space and electricity. Everything else was on us. (Read More)
