11:54 am - Good bye sweet Moushi
|
Awesome tabby with a purr like a pigeon cooing, wonderful protector of the sleeping, and strangely responded well to "who's a good dog? you are!" Maybe it was being raised by Rottweilers...

Her kidney values were so high at the end of January that the vet didn't think she'd make it to February, much less the middle of May. Through Sunday she had more good days than bad, and then Monday she quit drinking water. Kidney values yesterday were even higher. This morning, her right iris was shut & not responding to flashlight.
Hug & pet your furballs, for me?

10:47 pm - mmmm!
|
Lovely weekend of serendipity. There's bad in Ferguson MO, but much good, and I think I see a growing number of candles being lit. Like this, way to go Ferguson PD, you've created an international call for peace! (Probably not what you intended...)
More personally, got to hang out with and have deep and wide conversations with John, Eris, daughter Hero, son Archer. Ok, the kids were bouncy & wee, but great to reconnect with the parents. And had time with shaynabelle (hatching plans), and got to house sit twice (double what I thought I'd manage to do!), then bonus call to dine and chat with Miss C.
Wonderful, all around.

Try this user's fix!
http://fengi.livejournal.com/1504674.html
Please tumblr/reblog the shiznit out of this, mass migration away from idiocy might (maybe!) be noticed. We can hope....
I so love LJ users, en masse: smart, capable people.
Now, if only LJ *development* team would hire from the users who all seem to know how stupid it would be to toss the bulk of users into a beta site. Egads. So sloppy.

2:55 am - And we come back around!
|
|
Elysium is mixing 90s into Sunday's previously 80s-only night. DJ Minimus is there every other Sunday, early in the evening, and is open to stuff like this and this (he was very likely the same DJ playing those mixes back in 2008, or his partner in crime played them, DJ Boba Fett.)

11:08 pm - From CNN, even. Strange, that.
|
From Miss R, a thoughtful piece on the patterns surrounding our sad national habit of mass shootings. Strange that CNN has managed to put something together that's actually thoughtful, and took real investigation. Keep up the great work, folks!
And from M, old wisdom from Roger Ebert, as those who are Hollywood-savvy KNOW when/how people pull heartstrings, so it'd be easy for him to see through the smoke & mirrors to the root of it.

4:10 pm - Results!
|
A-Tex Fun Center (a hot tub/pool vendor) has a HUGE winter wonderland inside the unassuming warehouse exterior. Solid choice for lights, a bit pricey, even with their 25% off sale. But very helpful, so that was refreshing. String of multi colored chaser lights: acquired!
Big!Lots: Non-xmas lights galore, some LEDs left, no chasers.
Walgreens: THE BOMB omg! White chaser lights, I think on sale, didn't ask, just enjoyed the far lower prices. Only one box of those, so I hit another walgreens, and bonus: got to avoid going into WalMart.
Second walgrees had LEDs of many shapes and colors (pink!) and decent selection of old scool tiny incandescents (gold!) -- include a small set of solar powered ones that I scored on sale. It says that it does various flickering effects, but I need a day of charging to confirm that.
Yay! Thanks folks!

11:09 am - Shopping help?
|
Where can I find christmas lights, particularly strings of flickering lights? (ideal would be glowing fade on-off fairy effect)
Lowes: xmas decor is almost gone, moved off to a side shelf Target: same issue for lights (party decorations out the wazoo) Christmas store in Capital Plaza: GONE (the store itself) Garden Ridge: useless phone tree menu that refuses to bring you to a person Crate and Barrel: friendly, but no lights, and suggested a few places that I'm calling Michaels: no answer yet, busy signal Hobby Lobby: closed on Sunday
Where else? Would love to get them by Thursday evening.

1:34 pm - Large Item Pick Up for the TOTAL WIN:
|
Bulk item collection starts tomorrow in my hood, so people are putting out large items they don't want and are generally happy to see people haul away. Nice to think someone might USE your old, unwanted stuff, rather than just thinking it'll go to the landfill.
I got: A 4.5 foot tall small footprint wood dresser in nice condition (and the mail lady helped me put it in my car! too cool) ((and it has a nice spot on top for a cat perch)) A pale faux wood hutch for originalkitsune Small teal rubbermade tub with lid, unsmashed Skandia shelving, including another "desk" piece (I was flabbergasted!) A pine futon seat (smaller than loveseat/sofa size) Some frames and lampshades that Kitsune might want A 3-panel folding screen with faux-teak wood and linen fabric for the panels, unstained until I smudged it moving it around into/out of my car 2 wool rugs that smell like dog, but will be great in the yard, under a huge plastic tarp, so that a bedspread laid out on the tarp has cushioning from leaves & twigs A small pine desk in great condition that has the drawer converted to a keyboard tray Accordion folding plastic paper organizers that Mom's already taken off my hands A small pine shelf that is actually a towel rack A large odd curtain rod and a smaller standard bent white metal one (smaller still in packaging) that Kit might want A swiffer-mop thing & a pitch fork A purple nylon fiber duster on a long pole, perfect for chasing dust bunnies off the ceiling Tiles that I use in my garden to keep down the weed population A phillips head screwdriver for Kit (yup, really!) A large plastic dump truck and a plastic rocking horse, simple and sturdy enough for kids who visit my parties And perhaps weirdest of all, a complete toddler bed, with hardware, slats that are kept in perfect spacing arrangement with canvas strapping across all slats, little stubby feet, headboard, everything but the mattress (which would be scary to get from large item pick up anyway)
Quite the weekend!

11:25 am - A Wish
|
May you never hunger, May you never thirst.
May you never be too cold, nor over heated.
May you feel kinship with those around you and may lost friends reach out to connect.
May you sleep well, dream big dreams, and awaken refreshed.
May you find your path, and the momentum to follow it.
Peace be to you!

Was it someone on my friendslist ( originalkitsune or cindyscarlett?) who recently mentioned a scientist or mathematician who noted a significant change in peer treatment after transitioning from female to male? That is, that the same person was treated better by academic peers after no long appearing female?
Could've sworn I saw that link here...

2:33 pm - Whoa.
|
Just learned that too-soon-departed Tom Best (shown with awesome wife Bobbi) donated his organs/body to help others.
I had been telling friends that he left little pieces of his heart with each of us, so when we come together he reconstitutes, like Voltron.
Turns out I was more right than I knew. His body helped 51 people.
Rarely is it said with love: Rest in Pieces, dear friend!

Kindle users, check out stina_leicht's Of Blood and Honey, currently on Amazon's free list. Her next book is coming out soon, so you can continue the tale, shortly.
Werewolves should be scary, not sparkly, and there's plenty in this book to curl (or straighten) your hair & keep you reading....

I got pointed to this post on reddit.com and have been blown away. There are tons of great people on the internet, even if the *rest* of the net sucks, in that corner, they absolutely shine.
Grab some gatorade or your favorite electrolyte beverage, it's difficult to withhold tears, reading this.

6:10 pm - hehehehe!
|
If I hadn't been out this morning (for a work meeting with project sponsors who braved the weather to get to Texas to meet with us and were stuck here anyway and very much appreciated our bravery in getting out to meet with them in this weather) driving very safely ... I never would have seen the Snow Manhood in a residential front yard.
Looked like a snowman from a distance, but driving by it, as it sat there between the sidewalk and the curb, it was unmistakably, ahem, circumcised, and had 18 inch diameter balls on either side...
Four feet tall!
Strangely, the drivers I saw on MoPac were actually all VERY sane. No spin outs, everyone sticking to the one melted-through lane, extended following distances ... unlike ANY Austin driving I've seen in the past 25 years!

10:56 pm - 6:30 PM, Mom calls
|
Her: "Are you home?" Me: "Yeah... you stopping by?" (a semi-regular occurance) Her: "Oh no! I'm warm by my fireplace, I'm not going out." Me: "Oh, ok...." Her: "Austin made the news today! Our stoplights being out, leading to people not stopping at the intersections, and crashing into eachother." Me: "Hah! so stupid!" Her: "Soooo stupid!" Me: "Ah, so you're just calling to see that I got home safe?" Her: "Yup!" Me: "I did. Thanks!" Her: "Good! Have a good night!"
heheheh. Poor Austin. We can't drive in snow, much less rain, and now we can't even handle precipitation-free foul weather.

5:06 pm - sweet deal!

Groupon.com wasn't behaving earlier .. so I didn't post this then.
Now it appears to be working, so if you'd like a nice deal on acupuncture and/or massage, check out this deal at my roommate's clinic!
(They may extend the offer past tonight, due to the glitches today... still, the smart bet is to get it while you can.)
It's now showing up as available through midnight Friday. Yay!
