So it's just past midnight, and I'm calling it quits on editing my bingo fic, because my editing decisions are questionable (at best) after midnight. They're a bit like gremlins, in that sense. At this rate, I am most definitely not going to get bingo (which is a bit of a poor showing, considering the fact that I am... the mod for the challenge *cough*.)
It's been an interesting experience overall, though, because the mere fact I was trying to get bingo meant I inadvertently maybe actually properly learned how to pump out a Shitty First Draft without doing any editing as I go. I've posted two (actually completed!) things in two weeks, and this bingo fic will (hopefully!) make it three things in three weeks. After several years of puzzling and wondering about how the everloving fuck Ray Bradbury managed to write one short story per week, I now can almost understand it.
Almost.
...but I also now cannot shake the strange, slightly uneasy feeling that things are about to get all Icarus-y.
Card sign ups will remain open through all of July, with a final posting date of August 5. Get in on it if you haven't already!
Artist and author sign-ups for i_reversebang are also still open! So if you've been on the fence and waiting for a sign as to whether you should sign up, consider this that sign ;D
It feels like I've been waiting to see this film forever (my sympathies to my US peeps who will have to wait a while longer), and, for the most part, I was satisfied with what I got. ( Spoilers beyond the cutCollapse )
Worked out a tangle (at least, I think I did) that was hampering me, so hopefully the word count will climb again.
Things happened today, but the Siblet has left me so brain fried I can't actually be bothered typing them out. So. Just know that things happened. I did stuff. Things.
Opened this entry and went to write 0 for today's word count, then thought: 'no, Sib, that's terrible, you're not even a week in', and spat out a few words. So:
Today's word count: 152
In other news:
I'm hosting the inceptiversary Don Jon watch party on Friday, 31st of July, 7pm PST / 10pm EST (i.e. noon on Saturday for me). EVERYONE SHOULD COME. Chatroom and streaming/download details can be found here.
I like it when people recommend things to me (even if I take forever to check them out). So far this week:
1) smugrobotics wore me down and convinced me to watch The Smoke. I'm halfway through (there are only eight episodes, so it didn't require much marathoning). So far, so good, and, as several people seem to have already noted, Taron Egerton does cry prettily. Was also nice to see Lee Adama again.
2) fruityshirts created a delightful rec list of Mad Max: Fury Road fics for me, which you can find here.
Everyone reading this should rec other things to me. *nods*
inceptiversary is holding Porn Week this week. I'm more focused on finishing the Jon-and-Arthur-are-cousins fic (otherwise known as Double Take, for those of you playing along at home) for the Finish Your WIPs challenge, but I'll write something for Porn Week if I have time. Everyone else, however, should write something! Or draw something! Or submit a prompt to the prompt meme.
Because Double Take is almost done (knock on wood), I figured I'd line up the next WIPs I'll be tackling. So far, the order goes:
1) my IRB fic 2) the terribly overdue omega!Eames fic for bauble 2) the equally overdue chef!Eames & food critic!Arthur fic for kateison
In the past 24 hours, I have counted no less than five people talking about their dissatisfaction with tumblr as a fandom space, and how they're considering going back to LJ.
Five people isn't a lot, but the thought of a sudden mass exodus from tumblr back to LJ is still pretty hilarious.
(Don't get me wrong - I genuinely enjoy tumblr, even with its awful bugs, its regular weird and needless cosmetic changes, and its shitty inbox system. And I've spoken to a lot of people who've said getting into fandom via tumblr was easier/less intimidating because you could work your way up from liking/reblogging. So I really do appreciate tumblr for that. But good golly, is it ever awful for discussions and commenting.)
Since I shelled out for a name change token, I figured I'd better start using this LJ. (Seriously, LJ, fifteen dollars? It does feel very nice to have my name more or less consistent across all the social media/online things, but my God, fifteen dollars?)
Anyway.
In my continued efforts to establish (and maintain) writing momentum, I thought I'd start posting a daily word count. To LJ, which is practically dead, rather than tumblr, which is where all my followers are. But tumblr is a time suck, and I am trying to cut down on the amount of time I spend on that site. So LJ it is.
Today's word count: 816
See? Already I am more productive than I have been in days.
And now I will add a productivity ruiner in the form of the new Legend trailer, in which Tom Hardy looks unbearably attractive as Reggie Kray and utterly mad as Ronnie Kray. (Okay, fine, I find Ronnie Kray weirdly attractive, too. Shut up.)
I find it kind of funny and fitting that THard is portraying Ronnie Kray, seeing as he played Handsome Bob. The latter is an example of the gay gangster trope in British works, and the former is arguably the real world inspiration for said gay gangster trope in British works. It's neat.
