Fun for June 19-25
Thought I'd get an up on next week, although I may need to update it later
Monday
7-8:30pm, Family Art Night at the BDAC 745 S. Main in Bountiful. We went a couple times and had fun doing an art project that I didn't have to do any clean up. :) Doesn't get much funner than getting all the craft-bugs out, and coming home to a clean house.
Tuesday
10 am Tales of Desperaux at Cinemark ($1)
11-1 Radio Disney at the Gateway. Free and lots of fun stuff to do.
3 pm Irish Dancers at the Centerville Public Library
8 pm Vivace - a women's vocal jazz choir downtown at the Brigham City Park
Thursday:
Utah Arts Festival !! I'm so excited! I love this! If you want to meet at the fountains by the library at 12:30, that would be fun. The festival is only $5 a person over 12 yrs old (under 12 is free... unless those under-12 yr-olds break something... then it is not-so-free) from 12-3pm on Thurs and Friday. The Festival extends to Sunday and includes live entertainment. There is also art projects for kids, food, and TONS to look at. Can I say I love this festival?
Friday:
10-11, Summer Literacy at Mills Park in Woods Cross. A cop is coming to talk to the kids about detective work. Free and includes crafts, snacks, and sometimes even free books! I used to direct this program, so I am a little biased, but it is such a fun free summer activity.
8 pm Kerry Christensen yodelling at Brigham City Park downtown SLC
9 pm, Despicable Me at the Founders Park. I think there might be a band playing at 7:30, but I'm too tired to get up and check.
Saturday:
Utah Arts Festival still going. OK, when we lived in Michigan, there was a HUGE Art Festival that was free and took up at least 4 city blocks. It was amazing. I could wander there for hours... number 1 because it had so much creativity just oozing out of every corner, and number 2 because I had no children dragging me home. Which meant I had more time to buy art... so maybe my husband likes it better when I go with kids. We end up spending a lot of time in the kids craft zone.
Also the Farmers Market at Pioneer Park, which is exceptionally cool.

June 12-18
Better late than never, huh? Since it's already Monday night, I'll skip to Tuesday.
So we went to Skate Park last Wed. and the kids are begging to go back! We did lots of riding, playing on the playground, and even digging castles in the sand. Plus we left with enough skinned body parts to prove we had fun (you know, it's never truly fun unless someone gets hurt... but everyone left smiling!)
Tuesday:
10 am How to Train Your Dragon at the Bountiful Cinemark (only $1 a person)
3 pm Capoeria at the Centerville Public Library. We saw this at the downtown SLC last year, and I hope it is the same group... it was so cool! It's Brazilian martial arts.
8 pm Joshua Creek at the Concerts in the Park, downtown SLC Brigham Young Park. Dang it, I love this group, but have something else going on that night!
Wed.
11 am Meet us at Castle Park, located on Nicholls Road, right off of 89. Super fun park... has a place for little ones to play, and has a big, well, castle, really, for the older kids.
Thursday
Gateway has it's free concerts in the evening. Plus, you can always cool off in the fountains.
Friday
10 am-11 am Summer literacy program at Mills Park in Woods Cross. Free program with snacks, crafts, and reading. Often, kids will even get a free book. You can stop at Washington Elementary School on your way back for a free lunch, too. That way, if the kids fall asleep in the car afterwards, you can put them straight to bed!
8pm Mercy River at the Concerts in the Park, downtown SLC Brigham Young Park. We went to the concert last Friday night and had so much fun laying in the grass.
Free Chalk Festival at Gateway Friday and Saturday. Pretty cool. I've wanted to go for a couple years now and something always comes up.
Sat.
morning: the Farmer's Market opened at Pioneer Park. Whoohoo!
1-4pm Museum of Fine Art has their free day, exploring jigsaw puzzles. My kids always enjoy going. There is a craft that they can do, plus they usually have other activities to do, too.

Thanksgiving Point tulip festival
I love tulips! Maybe extra cuz I'm dutch (well, half dutch). So of course, loved the tulip festival at Thanksgiving Point.
I was surprised at how big the gardens are! And while they do have lots of lovely gardens for adults, I also appreciate the childrens area. Plus there is TONS of space to run... and mine are runners.
Open 10-8 thru May 7, this was a place we spent the whole day doing. I think the price was worth it if you stay the day. So if you go, bring a lunch (and a coupon), a stroller for little ones, and lots of sunscreen.

International Peace Gardens
If you have older kids, this might not be such a fun trip. But since mine are young and are always looking for somewhere to run and something to climb, this was right up our alley.
It is located 1060 South 900 West in Salt Lake, so just west of I-15. A nice place for a picnic. Now that I mention it, I think we will have to go picnicking there this summer.
