I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. Here is all of our material. The episode audio from Podbean is here.

I was listening to a gun debate, and I thought the discussion ignored the elephant in the room. Details matter and guns save lives. Armed citizens do not save a few lives here and there; they save millions! It is hard to make guns safer without costing lives because we use them so often. That makes sense when you realize there were about 6.6 million violent crimes in 2024. We stopped millions of them.

We need perspective. We have about one child killed on accident with a gun every other day. In those two days, we use a firearm to legally stop a lethal threat about 14-thousand times. That is why it so insanely hard to really save lives with new gun laws. We are really good at managing our own risks. Suppose you pass a law that makes it harder for children to get guns. That makes it really hard to save lives because the law costs lives if it slows the adults down when we need a gun to protect ourselves and our family.

If that is hard to understand, then let’s try a different example. Each year, a handful or people are hurt by misusing fire extinguishers. Suppose we want to reduce those five deaths down to 4-deaths each year. No matter what safety measure you add, you have to balance that against the 350-thousand times a fire extinguisher puts out a residential fire. If you make the fire extinguisher even a little harder to use, if you make the fire extinguisher more expensive or harder to buy, then the new regulation costs lives rather than saving lives.

If all you care about is a press release, then new regulations are easy. If you want to save lives then it is really hard.. And we use a gun to save lives about eight times for each time a fire extinguisher stops a fire.

Why do we have a second amendment to the constitution?

The Second Amendment is there because the east coast of America was settled by refugees who were mistreated by their governments. They were treated as second class citizens because of their religious or political affiliation. It was dangerous if you prayed differently than the king.

In the last few days, the Iranian government murdered about 2000 of its citizens because the citizens dared to protest against the muslim regime. Iranians are disarmed. The Iranian state police arrested citizens who were building guns.

Last week, we had armed gangs in Venezuela threatening to kill anyone who protested against the dictator Maduro. The citizens of Venezuela were disarmed.

In 1989, the Chinese government murdered between 25-hundred and 10-thousand students at Tiananmen Square. The Chinese citizens are disarmed.

If you think that couldn’t happen here, then please remember that five years ago, we had prominent people demanding we put unvaccinated citizens in concentration camps. There is a reason that didn’t happen in the United States. The government talks to us because they can’t shoot us without us shooting back. As horrible as that violence sounds, the alternative is much worse.

A friend of mine has relatives who had a cross burned on their lawn in the 1960s. The KKK stopped when blacks, catholics and jews were armed. That is good. Please don’t fix it.

Are Democrats going to burn down Minneapolis again?

News of Defensive Gun Use

DGU1- There is a right to bear arms in California. A woman shot her husband after he tried to choke her. She grabbed a gun and backed out of her house. Her three children were still inside the house. She re-entered the home and shot her husband when he pointed a gun at her.

The defender made several mistakes. She was arrested because she refused to say anything. It took her several days to claim this was a justified homicide. If you have a gun, then I am begging you to learn about the law. Please have a lawyer you can call.

Her gun was in a gun safe. The news story doesn’t say if it was a rapid access safe or not. It is hard to go get a gun when someone is strangling you.

The news stories did not provide this information, but I’ll bet that either drugs or alcohol were involved. 70% of the people who commit aggravated assault were either drunk or high.

Please remember that a North Carolina school teacher was beaten to death in her home while she waited for police. Her murderer had a long history of violent crime and mental health issues.

DGU2- 2A news-

From Christmass eve to New Years day, 10 people were shot and killed in gun-controlled-Chicago. An additional 40 were shot and wounded. Disarming the people who obey gun laws costs lives.

Amazon shut down the sales of second amendment history books. A respected, self-published Second Amendment author reports that Amazon no longer allows new copies of his books to be sold, only used ones, directly denying the author to receive money from writing and publishing his work. Jeff Bezos is not our friend.

Amazon has shut down new copy sales of the book “The Origin of the Second Amendment and The Founders’ View of the Right to Bear Arms” Amazon is limiting access to the publisher’s storefront, Golden Oak Books. The author, David Young, said that Amazon cut all the links from his websites and no longer show sales of new copies from the publisher. These are self-published books. Only used copies are available from Amazon or elsewhere.”

This isn’t Joe Biden’s government any more. The United States Department of Justice took an extraordinary step to defend the Second Amendment. The effects might reshape firearms regulation nationwide. Last week, the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division filed an en banc brief supporting gun owners who are challenging California’s system of mandatory ammunition background checks. The US DOJ called the state’s regulatory scheme “straightforwardly unconstitutional.” You can’t buy ammunition without a background check in California.

The Justice Department’s January 5 brief represents a major institutional shift. It was signed by Assistant Attorney General Harmeet K. Dhillon along with Senior Civil Rights Division officials. The brief affirmatively backs gun owners against a state regulation.

That legal filing marks a dramatic reversal of traditional opinions by the DOJ. Rather than defending gun control measures or remaining neutral, Trump’s DOJ now argues that California’s Proposition 63 ammunition regime violates the Second Amendment by using bureaucratic complexity as a weapon against lawful gun ownership.

New York would become the first state to require manufacturers of 3D printers to block production of guns and gun parts under new legislation. The proposed law would also make it a crime to possess or sell the digital blueprints needed to produce 3D-printed firearms without a license to do so. Words or electronic files become illegal. That is the law that New York Democrats have brought us.

New York is also charging companies who help people build their own guns at home. That is allowed by federal law.

In the middle of December, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit delivered a landmark ruling. The case is called United States v. Cockerham. The Fifth Circuit struck down a lifetime firearm ban imposed under Federal law. The court said the law was a violation of the Second Amendment. This decision marks a significant moment in the ongoing debate over the scope of Second Amendment rights for individuals convicted of a non-violent crime. The case centers on Edward Cockerham, whose sole offense was failing to pay child support. He never served a day in jail. Since the law they used to prosecute him might have allowed over a year in jail for some offences, Cockerham lost his right to bear arms forever. The judges said that doesn’t make sense and reversed the decision of the lower court in Mississippi.

I read that Vermont wants to ban guns in bars. Are they going to also ban car-keys in bars?

State laws covering alcohol vary widely. States regulate who can carry.

You can’t carry if-

-any alcohol is sold.

-if the establishment makes more than half of its revenue by selling alcohol.

-if you drink.

-if you’re drunk.

Other states say you can’t use your firearm if you’re legally drunk. Still other states say you remain responsible for what you do even if you are intoxicated.

You no longer have to pay the government a 200-dollar fee to own a suppressor. The feds had over 150 thousand applications for new NFA items on the first days of January.

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. Here is all of our material. The episode audio from Podbean is here.

Please carry your handgun where you can. I say that for a reason. There are lots of people who want to hurt the United States. We just stopped the drug lords in Venezuela. The Venezuelan dictator was working with both Iran, China, and Cuba. There are lots of Iranian and Chinese spies in the US. I don’t know what these bad actors have in mind, but it might be to attack your school, your church, or your local stores. You’d rather have your tools and not need them than need your tools and not have them. That means I’m wearing my cargo pants again. I’m carrying a spare magazine, a tourniquet, a knife, and a flashlight. Bring your first responder attitude.

Now, let’s be realistic. We’re more likely to use those tools to help someone who was injured in a parking lot accident or choking at a restaurant than to stop terrorists.

The US government removed a dictator yesterday. I do note that citizen-journalists knew something was going on at the pentagon. The local pizza parlors were extra busy for the last few nights. It looks like they need to move fast food restaurants into the Pentagon to protect operational security.

Any new years resolutions?

I added it up. When I worked out, I lifted about 20 thousand pounds.. piece at a time. I want to dry practice every week. Ammo prices are down, so we can go to the range more often.

News of Defensive Gun Use

DGU1- You have the right to defend innocent parties. The district attorney in Cambria County, Pennsylvania said a homicide was justified. An attacker shot at an innocent man in a parking lot. The victim’s friend saw the attack. He was armed and shot the attacker. The defender had the right to use lethal force because the attack was potentially lethal, immediate, and unavoidable. The attacker died at the scene. The bad news was that the district attorney took four months to decline prosecution. If you have a gun for defense then you need a lawyer you can call.

DGU2- Please lock your doors. A man living in Michigan was attacked in his home at about 7pm on Christmas day. The attacker shot the homeowner. The wounded homeowner retrieved his gun and shot his attacker. The defender then called 911 and asked for help. The defender was taken to the hospital for treatment. The attacker died at the scene. The homeowner was dating the attacker’s ex-wife. The defender didn’t lock his front door so the attacker walked in without warning.

Let’s learn from this.. please.

2A news-

Two out of three judges said that California was dishonest. A three judge panel of the 9th circuit court of appeals overturned California’s effective ban on open carry. One judge said that California was as honest as a telemarketer. I could not tell if the judge was talking about the California Legislature or the lawyers in the California Department of Justice. He might mean both.

California claimed that since some people somewhere could apply for an open carry license, therefore any and all restrictions were not an infringement on the right to bear arms. The judge noticed several things. One- that the law banned open carry applied to 95 percent of California citizens. Two- That the state has not issued a single open carry license. And Three- that concealed carry and open carry are not substitutes. Violating either one is a violation of the right to bear arms.

The ruling returned the case to the lower courts. You still can’t open carry on the streets of San Francisco or Los Angeles.

Kyle Rittenhouse is back in the news. He said he was done with the lying media and the hate. He got married and moved to Colorado. He said the murder of Charlie Kirk moved him to get active again and defend the right to bear arms. Welcome back, Kyle.

A new law went into effect in Illinois. Your firearm has to be locked up when it is not on your body. That is another reason to get your carry permit and wear your defensive tools. Also, you already had a gun safe, didn’t you? Now you need to carry a portable safe as you travel and sleep away from home.

I know a guy. Attorney Alan Beck will argue against Hawaii’s vampire rule in the US Supreme court. That takes place in two weeks. Hawaii and anti gun states attorneys said guns are bad. Guns are dangerous. That gives us the right to ban them unless a property owner explicitly says guns are allowed.

That argument confuses a practical appeal with a legal one. It says that some people misuse guns so we can ban them. The second amendment of the Bill of Rights codifies the legal claim of armed defense. We’ve decided that balance. We found it safer to have armed citizens than to have disarmed citizens. On a side note ten times more people die from taking aspirin than from being shot with long guns. Are they out to ban aspirin?
Washington State’s gun laws fail again. The illegal immigrant who murdered a national guard soldier in Washington DC stole his gun. He stole it in Washington state. Washington has mandatory background checks, but murderers don’t follow our gun laws. They added illegally transporting firearms to the charges the murderer already faces.

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. Here is all of our material. The episode audio from Podbean is here.

The episode audio from Podbean is here.

I’m exercising as I try to work off the feasts of Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Bill, I heard something interesting. Now that we have X and get real news, we see that crazy people are violent. Remember back 20 years ago when Barack Obama said we had to spend government money because some companies were too big to fail? You remember that? Now we’ve seen that much of government is too big to succeed. We have billions of dollars lost to fraud and the government can’t stop it. The obvious way to stop it is to make government smaller. The argument is that we won’t take care of the poor addicts and single moms. It turns out we were never taking care of the addicts or the pre-school children or women’s health. We were funneling kickback schemes for corrupt politicians. The sign out front and the press releases were the only social good. The rest was a fraud. Sometimes the money was sent to a Post Office Box and there was no building at all.

Lock up the crazy people. Put the addicts in rehab. Put the criminals in jail. Stop robbing the taxpayers. Do that, and life in the US should be pretty good. It is amazing when you listen to the people who argue against those simple proscriptions.

If you got a new gun for Christmas, then please learn about it. Go take a formal class. Learn how to store it. Learn how to load and unload it. Learn how to hold it and how to shoot it. Taking that class doesn’t mean you forgot something that everybody knows. It means you want to learn the best ways to solve the common problems that every gun owner faces. Even if your Uncle Bubba knows it all, does he know the best way to teach it to you? I am a driver, and I asked someone else to teach my children to drive a car. I was a firearms instructor, and we sent my wife to other instructors for her firearms classes.

And if no one told you yet, we’re glad you became a gun owner. Welcome. How can we help?

News of Defensive Gun Use

DGU1- Son reports burglary in dorm. Masked group beats the victim who reported the crime. The victim’s father saw the attackers beat his son’s head against the pavement. The father shot the attackers. One died in the hospital. Father was  held in jail for several weeks, then released with no charges pending.

We own guns for armed defense. That is not and will not be simple. We can simplify the rules, but life is complicated. It should be. It has to be. You do lots of things. You get in a large number of unusual situations. You want pre-paid legal representation if you carry a firearm in public.

DGU2- Two suspects face multiple charges after they were apparently shot by a homeowner near Las Vegas, Nevada. The home invaders were 29-years-old. They were booked on suspicion of attempted robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery, burglary while in possession of a gun or deadly weapon, and assault with a deadly weapon. They are still hospitalized so their court date has not been set. They have prior arrests for theft, domestic battery, and reckless driving.

The police got a call around 4 in the afternoon. A homeowner the shot two men when they approached him in his garage while they were armed. The news articles imply that the homeowner was also carrying a firearm.

DGU3– A 44-year-old son breaks into his parents home and threatens the family.

What do you do when a family member has a drug problem?

——

Bill, let’s talk about the difference between a defender and a gunfighter. A gunfighter uses speed to stop an attack. A defender uses good practice so he can win even if he is slower or if he is starting from a disadvantage. I want you to use every trick you can because this is not a game. I want you to protect your life and the life of your family members.

I was thinking about being a perfect shot. Suppose you are a new gun owner. You have your carry permit or live in a state that allows you to carry without one. You go to a shopping mall. The worst thing you can imagine happens to you. Someone starts shooting at the crowd of people in the mall. What should you do?

Let me ask that another way. What should you have done? You have to think about the problem now so you can act later. If you have not thought about it, then you will freeze. You need a plan.

In a perfect world the attacker gives me a clear shot. There is no one in front of the attacker and no one behind him. I suspect that most people will duck and run when they hear shots. Some might not. Do you shoot at the attacker if there are innocent people behind the attacker? You can do nothing. That means the innocent people in front of the murderer are getting shot while you watch.

We face a similar problem even when the innocent people are out of sight. Suppose you are attacked in the parking lot. Bullets bounce off of steel and concrete. You might hurt an innocent person if you use your firearm. That could happen even if you shot the guy from two feet away and hit him in the chest with the first shot.

We want simple answers. The real world is complicated. I want you to think about the mess today so you do the right thing tomorrow.

2A news-

One of the survivors of the muslim attack at Bondi Beach tried to grab a police officer’s gun and shoot back. The officers stopped her and the officers continued to hide behind a car. The murderers were finally stopped by an officer who used his pistol at 40 yards to shoot the attackers. The attackers were armed with a bolt action rifle and a shotgun. The victims were disarmed. The attackers didn’t have super guns. The victims were disarmed and there was no place to hide. It took the police 12 minutes to arrive. It took them longer to shoot back.

As you would expect, Australian politicians said that more victims should be disarmed.

Kristi Noem closed the diversity lottery path for immigrants. She said that the US Government can’t find a good way to screen the immigrants and show that they would not be a violent threat to US Citizens.

The US Department of Justice sued the District of Columbia’s Metropolitan Police Department over Second Amendment violations. City government unlawfully banned citizens from owning modern firearms through the D.C. criminal code. Quote- “Washington, DC’s ban on some of America’s most popular firearms is an unconstitutional infringement on the Second Amendment. Living in our nation’s capital should not preclude law-abiding citizens from exercising their fundamental constitutional right to keep and bear arms.” That was US Attorney General Pam Bondi. The DC police department did not respond. The DC politicians did respond to Trump. The Trump administration accused the DC Mayor of manipulating crime data in the District. The Mayor of Washington DC said she would not run for reelection. The DC police chief quit.

Note that there are several similar lawsuits. The DOJ sued Los Angeles because they take three years to issue a carry permit. They sued the U.S. Virgin Islands because the law required you to have a built in gun safe before you could buy a firearm. Now they sued DC for banning the ownership of common long guns.

As of January first, California will require a background check to buy a gun barrel. That means you can’t buy it over the internet, but have to have it shipped to a local FFL who will run a background check on you. Does anyone anywhere think that the criminals will obey that law? Please remember that honest US citizens use a firearm several million times a year in legally justified armed defense.
This hardly counts as news. Anti gun Democrats in Hawaii said you couldn’t carry a firearm onto private property without expressed permission from the property owner. That means you couldn’t drive your car onto the gas station property to turn around or buy a galleon of gasoline. That law is being challenged in the US Supreme court. Bloomberg’s anti-gun lawyers said the law is justified. They said it was an unfair burden on property owners to put up a no-guns allowed sign. That is odd. We ask land owners to put up a sign that says no hunting or trespassing if they want to keep hunters off their land. Somehow, that same burden is too much for your local shop owner to manage. Maybe Billionaires like Soros and Bloomberg simply want you disarmed and vulnerable.

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. Here is all of our material. The episode audio from Podbean is here.

We finally finished the Thanksgiving turkey. After eating too much, I worked out three times last week. I meant to, but I did not dry practice or get to the range. Shame on me. It is December, so talk to your family about protecting themselves as they go shopping. Remember, crazy druggies need presents too, and they might want to start with you..

News of Defensive Gun Use

DGU1- Michigan- Just give them what they want? Really? Some criminals are what the academics call resource predators. They want our stuff. They want our wallet, our phone, our keys, our watches and rings. Some criminals aren’t like that. They like robbing us. The robbery is the payoff. These criminals are called process predators. How can you tell which type of criminal broke into your house?

A man entered a home in Michigan. He went to the kitchen and grabbed a knife. He gook off his pants and underwear. He then went upstairs and stabbed an 11 year old girl several times. He stopped the attack when the girl’s father held the attacker at gunpoint. The attacker was sentenced to 40 years in prison for  assault with intent to murder, first-degree home invasion, and second-degree assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct.

What can we learn from this? Sometimes we have to leave our bedroom to protect our family. How long would that take you?

DGU2- Louisiana- It is hard to defend yourself when you’re asleep and your attacker is awake. An intruder broke into the second story apartment by climbing up to the bedroom balcony. He then entered the bedroom. One of the occupants was armed. The intruder was shot. The legal occupants called 911 and asked for help. The intruder was arrested and taken to the hospital for treatment of two gunshot wounds. The attacker had a previous arrest for beating his girlfriend.

Can you defend yourself at night?

2A news-

We learned something new about the Afghan murderer who shot two national guard soldiers in Washington, DC. There are suspicions he was blackmailed. Back in the mideast wars, it was common for islamic radicals to threaten someone’s family. They threatened to torture and kill your family unless you drove a bomb truck. Maybe they promised medical care for you sick siblings if you drove the suicide truck. That same old blackmail scheme still works today. That calls into question any system of screening foreign immigrants.

I read the details behind the Mexican government’s lawsuit against US firearms manufacturers. The US Supreme court said the lawsuit violates US laws. What came out of that lawsuit was where the Mexican narcos got their guns. Many of their guns come from the US. Over 80 percent of the guns that the narcotics gangs use come from the Mexican government. That means the Mexican government bought guns from the US, and then those guns were either sold or stolen by the drug gangs. Reporter Sharyl Attkisson covered that story on her program Full Measure.

The California legislature said that you needed a background check to buy ammunition. Nevermind that you already passed a background check to own the gun. Nevermind that you can’t get ammunition if the state won’t process your request. The US 9th circuit court said that law might be lawful after a lower court found it unconstitutional. The court ordered the law to remain in effect the full court has a chance to rule on it.

On Monday, North Carolina regained the right to allow faculty and staff of private schools to carry a concealed firearm on campus. The original bill was vetoed by governor Stein. He said it was dangerous. The governor is wrong. We trained school staff. We saw them carry concealed where they work. From the outside, the only thing that changed was a plastic no-guns sign came down. Other than that, nothing happened except that mass murderers decided to go somewhere else. We conducted that experiment. We did it again and again. We did it over three million times. The results are clear. Trained staff are not a threat to innocent students, staff, or parents. The only threat is to the fantasy world where Josh Stein lives, and to the donations he gets from anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg. Why was Democrat Stein willing to put students at risk for a few campaign dollars?

Monthly background checks for the purchase of firearms rose to 1.4 million for the month of November. Some Democrat politicians think you’d be safer if you were disarmed.

Speaking of looking at the numbers. Bloomberg’s lobbying group, Everytown, has a hard time with math. They said we don’t defend ourselves and that guns kill people. Recently, Everytown put on a training class. When you actually look at the numbers Bloomberg used, you see that even with the lowest estimates, self-defense is still more common than homicide with a gun. Self-defense is much more common than murder, and that is using their skewed data. More reasonable data shows that honest citizens used a firearm for legally justified armed defense (2.8 million)  several hundred times for each murder with a firearm (13 thousand per year). Don’t expect Bloomberg to tell you that.
Is the United States a shining beacon on the hill for other countries? The Italian Prime Minister said that defense is always legitimate after a homeowner in his 60’s used a firearm to stop three armed attackers. The intruders broke into his home at night. The homeowner shot at least one of them.

Second Amendment and Self-Defense News on Sunday, 30 November 2025

November 30, 2025

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. We used most of the articles. Here is all of our material.

The episode page with audio is here at Podbean.

Lots of us live in large cities. Those cities have police chiefs who are appointed by the mayor and confirmed by a city council. Those chiefs tell us to be a good witness if we see a crime. The thought is that a criminal might take someone’s property and property can be replaced. Recently, we’ve seen young women stabbed, beaten, and set on fire by repeat criminals. In one case, the criminal in Chicago had been arrested 72 times before he set a female train passenger on fire. Another man in Chicago has a habit of knockout-punching random women on the street. He has been arrested over 20 times and is still on the streets. That means that witnesses don’t matter since judges put criminals back on the street.

So, if you see this happen in front of you, then what do you do? In most cases, you are as stuck as the victim.

I’m almost 70 years old. I’m not going to go hand to hand with a crazy young man. Many of these horrible crimes occur in gun free zones in Democrat controlled cities. I have taken quite a few first-aid classes, and the first thing we are always told is to make sure the scene is safe for you before you give aid to someone else. If the attacker is standing there, what are you going to do? You could give the attacker verbal orders to leave. If he doesn’t leave, it is a tough legal case for you to claim the right to use lethal force so you could render aid to an innocent victim. You might take that legal risk for a family member, but would you take it for a stranger? We are talking about at least a half-million dollars to defend yourself in court in a democrat controlled city. In New York City, a 67 year old man was given four years in prison for defending himself from a habitual criminal. The defender’s crime was that he didn’t get a carry permit in New York City. Let us point out that it is still a fiction that he might get a concealed carry permit in New York city.

Politics is real and that is why you must care about it. We have to pass through blue states even if we don’t live there. God help you if you do.

There is good news. They revoked cashless bail for violent criminals in North Carolina. They did that because we complained. You built that. Good work.

DGUs and Training-

DGU1 Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Stephanie Dilyard worked the night shift at a convenience store. She worked at 7-11 from 11 at night until 7 in the morning. She knew the job was dangerous. She knew that convenience stores were robbed late at night. A criminal came into her store. He gave her a counterfeit 100 dollar bill. She refused to make the sake, and also kept the counterfeit bill. The criminal threatened her. She started to call the police. He threw bottles at her. The criminal came behind the counter and attacked her. She tried to run but he grabbed her by the neck. With the criminal’s arm around her neck, the clerk drew her gun and shot her attacker. He fled. She stayed at the scene and gave a statement to the police. The criminal had a prior felony conviction. He was out on parole. 7-eleven is owned by a holding company headquartered in Japan. They fired the clerk for carrying a firearm while at work. In an interview she said, “This was a situation where I felt like I was put into a corner between choosing between my job, and my life, and I’m always going to choose my life because there’s people that depend on me. Just, I’m going, I’m going home, you know. I need to be here for my kids.”

You remember the saying, just give them what they want? Please reconsider. Some of the criminals want to hurt you. They like hurting you. The safest option for a woman confronted by a criminal is to have a gun. Women who rely on passive behavior are 2.5 times more likely to suffer serious injury than women who defend themselves with a firearm.

On a different point, why are we giving an anti-rights company our money? Choose where you shop for chips and gasoline.

DGU2 Chicago, Illinois

A carjacker is in jail after prosecutors accused him of shooting a woman during a botched South Shore carjacking that ended with the victim, a concealed carry holder, shooting him. The attacker was already on pretrial release for charges of possessing a machine gun and a stolen vehicle. Those charges came after a previous failed carjacking on September 7th.

The defender was a 34-year-old woman. She and a 31-year-old female companion were sitting in the defender’s parked car when “multiple individuals” approached their car. The attacker tried to yank open the passenger door while he also pointing a gun at the women. The defender is a licensed concealed carry holder. She reached for her own firearm. The attacker shot her in the leg before she shot him. Some reports have him shot three times in the torso. That stopped the attack and the female driver took them to a safe location to call the police.

After the attacker was released from the hospital, he was held in jail on charges of attempted second-degree murder, attempted vehicular hijacking, and aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon. Given that his fellow thieves dumped the wounded attacker in an alley, he is lucky to be alive. LINK

DGU3 Miami, Florida

We are allowed to use lethal force when it is the safest thing to do. That means it must be necessary, and that all our other choices were more dangerous. That means we don’t shoot the delivery driver who knocks on our door at dusk. We should shoot the four men who break into our home in the middle of the night.

Four men broke into a home at sunset. The homeowner was present. He heard them. He was armed. He shot them. Three of the attackers were able to run. One wasn’t. One attacker was transported to the hospital where he later died. His mother was told about her son’s death. She didn’t believe the reports that he broke into a home. Maybe he would be alive today if his parents could believe bad things about him. LINK

DGU4 Murray, Utah.

A store employee opened the doors for two customers. The two customers browsed the jewelry cases. One of them then drew a gun. The robbers forced two store employees to the ground. The robbers produced tape and tried to tie up the employees. That is when the assistant store manager drew his gun and shot one of the attackers. Both fled. One attacker was arrested at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the abdomen. The defenders called 911. Security video shows the attack.

2A news-

I’m constantly surprised by what people don’t know. I was overseas for several weeks. A German man who lives in Taiwan commented to me on how violent the US was because we have guns. I asked him how many times people save their lives in armed defense. He didn’t know. He sees a news story about violent criminals, but misses the millions of times we defend ourselves. I see rage-bait headlines about guns in schools. The article didn’t mention that we have over three-million days where an authorized school volunteer was armed at school to protect students and staff. That doesn’t make the news because there isn’t blood on the ground. I was grateful for Lock N Load Radio. Thank you, Bill.

An immigrant from Afghanistan attacked two national guard soldiers in Washington, DC. One soldier was shot in the chest. When she fell down, the attacker shot her in the head. The second soldier was carrying a sidearm with an empty chamber. The tried to rack a round and was shot before he could defend himself. A third soldier stopped the attacker by stabbing him.. with the soldier’s pocket knife. That soldier was a major. Who issued the rules of engagement so soldiers were not able to defend themselves? LINK

The Justice Department plans to expand gun-rights protections with a new office in its civil rights division dedicated to enforcing the U.S. constitutional right to bear arms, according to plans shared with Congress and reviewed by Reuters.

The office, called the Second Amendment Rights Section, expects to open on December 4 and will be dedicated to investigating local laws or policies limiting gun rights.

The section intends to execute the broad policy directions from a February executive order issued by President Donald Trump directing Attorney General Pam Bondi to comb the entire U.S. government to “assess any ongoing infringements” of gun rights.

The DOJ Civil Rights Division has challenged local and state laws it believes run contrary to the Second Amendment. Recently, the Department of Justice sued the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department over delays in issuing concealed carry permits. That case is working its way through the court system. The new section will run that suit going forward.

Also, Harmeet Dhillon, the head of the Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, recently argued before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit against Illinois’ “assault weapons” ban, known as the Protect Illinois Communities Act (PICA). This action was the first time the Department of Justice argued against a gun law in the federal court system

What isn’t stated in the news article is that an anti-gun democrat congressman probably released the DOJ announcement to Reuters news agency, so Reuters had to include stories of so-called mass shootings to show that guns in civilian hands are too dangerous and President Trump is making it even more so. Math is obviously hard for journalists. LINK

More guns on the street leads to less violent crime in Seattle, Washington. The local news outlets said that local government policies were finally having an effect and that crime was down. For some reason, they ignored that concealed carry in King County is at an all time high. We were told that more guns cause more crime, and here we see the exact opposite effect in very Democrat Seattle Washington. LINK

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. We used most of the articles. Here is all of our material.

The episode audio from Podbean is here.

DGUs and Training-

Small things make us safer. Have you ever been attacked by a piece of paper? Some of us use a dark circle as a target. That might build skills, but I’ve never been attacked by a big black dot. Some targets have a human outline. Some have physical features like arms and ears. Some are photographs of real people. They may, or may not, have a weapon in their hand. If you are a new gun owner, then I’d ask you to try them all. See how they feel. You need more than paper skills.

If you can, you want to shout stop as you draw. Also, as you practice, you should have the target turn away from you about half the time so you draw but don’t shoot. LINK

DGU1 A homeowner woke up when a man broke into his home. It was midnight when the homeowner recognized that he had an intruder. He grabbed his firearm. The was assaulted and defended himself. The defender then called 911. The attacker was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. LINK

DGU2 A son came home and fought with his parents. His father asked him to leave. The son left, but then returned. He smashed a window and grabbed his mothers throat as he reached through the window. He was shot by his father. They called the police. EMS transported the wounded attacker. He was arrested for assault and for an outstanding warrant for theft. LINK

I read about criminals committing a crime every day. If you want to know the criminal’s arrest record, you can try and look that up on the web. Try Google’s Artificial Intelligence search. Then try X’s Grok. I’ve found Grok to be much better when I want to search criminal records.

2A news-

More guns led to less crime in Miami.  Florida adopted “shall issue” concealed carry in the late 1980s. Critics said we would see blood in the streets. We’d see wild west shootouts in every parking lot. They said it was bad to have criminals carrying guns, and that our armed neighbors would make it worse.

That didn’t happen. The homicide rate has fallen almost in half. The number of murders in Miami fell almost 90 percent despite the growth of its population.

That is consistent with other stories we’ve seen across the USA. Crime in major cities in Ohio fell after they passed constitutional carry. LINK

Our colleague AWR Hawkins did the math. There have been over 14-thousand murders in Chicago since 2000. Please remember that Illinois and Chicago in particular are the jewel in Billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s crown of gun control. LINK

We shouldn’t expect judges to protect our rights. We should expect our legislators to do that. It will be three years since Oregon voters passed an amendment that limited magazine capacity and passed a permit to purchase. Only now will the Oregon supreme court hear oral arguments why that is unconstitutional. LINK

We remember, but politicians have a short memory. Texas Gun Rights’ president Chris McNutt was sounding the alarm against Sen. John Cornyn (R or Texas), warning that his support of Biden-era gun control undercuts any claim he makes to being pro-2A. McNutt “delivered a letter to the White House urging Trump not to endorse Cornyn. Texas gun owners remember who wrote the blueprint for Biden’s gun control agenda, and we won’t stand idly by while the architect asks for our vote.”

U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt (R) has emerged as one of Cornyn’s primary challengers and Hunt said, “There’s no rewriting Sen. Cornyn’s record on the Second Amendment. You can’t strip the rights of law-abiding citizens and call it ‘progress.’ Texans know better.”

In May of 2022, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R) told Cornyn to work with Democrats to achieve “bipartisan” gun control legislation. The next month, a gun control agreement was announced between Senate Democrats and Republicans. President Biden specifically named Cornyn as someone he wanted to thank for the passage of the so called Bipartisan Safer Communities Act which was the gun control package that Cornyn passed. Only a few months ago, Senator Cornyn claimed he does not remember supporting Biden’s gun control bills. LINK

A study came out of the University of Colorado at Boulder. 32 percent of the respondents believed guns should be allowed on college campuses and that 42 percent believe owning a gun makes someone safer. Among Republicans, conservatives, men, and rural residents, greater fear of mass shootings was associated with decreased support for gun control. They found that result even when considering race and level of education.” LINK

On Friday, On Friday, A Florida circuit judge in Broward county ruled that Florida’s prohibition against 18–20-year-olds carrying firearms concealed for self-defense is unconstitutional. The judge said, quote, “Florida’s prohibition on the concealed carry of firearms strips a class of legal adults of their ability to exercise the very right the Constitution guarantees. Florida’s overbroad restriction on the concealed carry of firearms by 18–20-year-olds violates the Second Amendment. Florida statute 790.01 is unconstitutional.” LINK

Massachusetts Governor Laura Healy has worked tirelessly to disarm honest citizens. We’ve said that doesn’t stop criminals. The director of the governor’s office in western Massachusetts was arrested for distributing large amounts of cocaine and carrying a firearm without a permit. LINK

DGUs-

You’ve heard the phrase, there are no blue states, there are only blue cities? It turns out that there are no violent states, there are only some violent cities. It isn’t really a surprise that when you don’t arrest violent criminals you get more violent crime. Not a little more, but a lot more. By 2024, the urban rate of violent crime “increased by 61%” and was “46% higher than the nationwide rate and 104% higher—more than double—the rural rate of violent crime.” I wonder if that is why so many black urban women have become gun owners. https://www.ammoland.com/2025/10/urban-crime-spike-the-most-overlooked-u-s-crime-story-in-recent-years/

Do you remember when the local chief of police said, ‘Just be a good witness and call the police?’ If that was ever true, it isn’t true now. The criminals in large blue cities don’t care about the police. The violent criminals will be back on the street within hours. Please learn how to defend yourself. Talk to your family about their safety, and then go armed to defend the people you love. It isn’t hard, but it does take practice and common sense.

Do you remember the children’s story book, The Cat in the Hat Comes Back? The story starts with a pink mess in the bathtub. Everything the characters do makes a bigger mess. The moral of the story is that you can’t solve a small problem by creating a bigger one. That is the pathetic history of gun control in the US. In Minnesota right now, they are saying that honest citizens should be disarmed because two women a day are attacked by their ex husband or ex boyfriend with a gun. They don’t tell you that over 500 women a day use a firearm to stop sexual assaults. Disarming 500 women makes the problem worse, not better.

About 74 people a day commit suicide with a firearm. Over 74-hundred people a day use a firearm to stop a lethal threat of death or great bodily injury. Disarming honest people puts us at greater risk rather than making us safer.

This isn’t rocket science. This is common sense. Unfortunately, the gun-grabbers don’t like the world as it is and want to live in a pretend world of their own.

A man is dead after he smashed his way through the front door of an apartment in South Carolina. He was shot by the occupant, according to the Richland County Sheriff’s Department. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. Sunday in Columbia, South Carolina. When deputies arrived, they found the man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a nearby hospital where he later died. Authorities have not released his identity.

The resident told deputies that the man kicked in the apartment door uninvited after 10 at night. The defender feared for his safety. He grabbed his firearm and fired. After reviewing the evidence and statements, authorities concluded on Wednesday that the shooting was a justifiable homicide. No charges will be filed. The intruder was taken to a nearby hospital where he died.

The police won’t tell us, but the intruder is probably known by the police and has been involved in robberies before. https://concealednation.org/2025/10/south-carolina-man-shot-killed-after-kicking-in-apartment-door/

In Compton, California, a man followed a woman into a beauty supply store and groped her. Compton is in LA county so the woman probably could not get a carry permit from the sheriff. The incident happened around 3:30 in the afternoon. The woman shouted for help. Store employees intervened and demanded the man leave. He began threatening staff and customers and destroying property in the store. Another customer was armed. She drew her firearm. She fired a warning shot. When the man turned toward her in what she perceived as a threatening manner, she fired again, striking him.

This case is likely to be closely examined under California’s self-defense laws, which allow for the use of deadly force if a person reasonably believes they or others are in imminent danger of death or serious bodily harm. Your lawyer does not want to argue that a warning shot was necessary. https://concealednation.org/2025/10/armed-woman-fatally-shoots-man-after-sexual-assault-in-compton-store/

2A news-

The state of Virginia is both a pro-gun state and an anti-gun state. The anti-gun faction took a loss on Friday. The gun grabbers passed Universal background checks. On Thursday, a state court ruled that the state law violates the US constitution. The court noted that in Virginia, adults under the age of 21 are allowed to lawfully own handguns. However, federal law prohibits licensed gun dealers from selling handguns to adults under 21. They can buy them from other gun owners and the state can not demand they pass a background check that FFLs are not allowed to give them. https://archive.is/rpISJ#selection-1701.0-1775.234

A similar case was decided in Florida. The section of the Florida law prohibiting adults under age 21 from carrying a concealed firearm is unconstitutional, a Broward judge ruled Friday.

Effectively dismissing a case against a Fort Lauderdale resident who turns 20 in December, Broward Circuit Judge Frank Ledee said the restriction is inconsistent with the Second Amendment of the Constitution, which guarantees the right of the people to keep and bear arms, and with other Florida laws permitting both concealed and open carry of weapons. Ledee agreed with the defense argument that 18-year-olds are treated as adults in multiple legal settings, including the ability to vote, marry and serve in the armed forces.

“Because the Second Amendment’s plain text applies to the concealed carry of firearms, Florida’s concealed carry ban, as applied to eighteen-to-twenty year olds, is unconstitutional unless the State can affirmatively prove that the prohibition is consistent with this Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation,” Ledee said, finding that the state had not met that burden in the case against Joel Andrew Walkes, 19, of Fort Lauderdale. https://archive.is/NULTF#selection-1697.0-1709.444

A Highschool in Maryland called the police on a bag of chips. The highschool can’t bring itself to expel violent students so they installed a camera system that was supposed to alert the police if there was a student with a knife or a gun. The system called the police when a student had a bag of dorito chips in his pocket. Does the student get to sue the police and the school for a false report? https://www.shootingnewsweekly.com/police-procedure/ai-school-security-system-mistakes-doritos-bag-for-a-gun-sending-cops-to-take-down-a-high-school-student/

Some of the pro-gun organizations are crazy. They are so intent on sounding alarm that they refuse to recognize large differences between politicians. They can’t raise money on good news. Thee National Association for Gun Rights and Gun Owners of America have put out messages that say the Trump administration is busy violating our rights and the sky is falling unless we give them money. I’m tired of the click bait rage stories. For the first time that I can find on record, an administration asked to vacate a conviction for having a magazine that carried over 10 rounds in Washington, DC. Trump’s department of justice did that. Democrats have never done that. There is more to do, but it is another step in the right direction. Thank you, Harmeet Dhillon of the US civil rights division of the DOJ.

That said, parts of the DOJ are still supporting Democrat gun control. We have more to do. Link

Just to tease you a bit. You might remember that the Trump Administration took back law enforcement in Washington, DC after the DC government failed. In that capacity, the trump administration could make compacts with states and territories. They could recognize carry permits from other states the same way they recognize drivers licenses. That would be fun to watch. Bloomberg would lose his mind. https://x.com/NRA/status/1978563664018805096?t=Vwjtbecz7yBZIfMzBYhbRQ&s=19

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. We used a few of the articles. Here is all of our material.

Episode audio from Podbean is here.

I was overseas when Charlie Kirk was assassinated. It was eye opening. Think back for a moment. If you wondered how many of us would celebrate the murder of a sitting US president, 2024 showed us. Last week we found out just how many people would celebrate if you or I were murdered. We watched small people invent enormous enemies to hide their own weaknesses. The Democrat empathy machine shattered before our eyes and we got to see behind the mask. Charlie Kirk wasn’t a fascist. Fascists don’t hand you a microphone and ask you what you think. The left doesn’t kill you for being fascist. They call you a fascist because they are afraid of you and want to kill you.

By the way, it was the University and Local PD who were in charge of rooftop and counter sniper security for Kirk’s visit at Utah Valley University. LINK

Last week I was at the Gun Rights Policy conference. That is amazing. Both John Lott and Ryan Petty both spoke about school security. I liked that the Second Amendment Foundation is now willing to touch that hot-button topic. The NRA president Doug Hamlin spoke there about an accountable NRA.Several NRA board members were there as well. (John Richardson, Amanda Suffecool)

DGUs-

2A news-
John Lott had something to say about gun free zones. We die there.  Talking about the attack at the Michigan LDS church, Lott said, “This clearly appears to be yet another mass shooting in a place where civilians were banned from having guns. Michigan state law bans people carrying concealed weapons in churches unless one receives permission from church officials, and the Mormon church’s official policy prohibits giving such permission.” State law bans carry on “any property or facility owned or operated by a church, synagogue, mosque, temple, or other place of worship, unless the presiding official or officials allow concealed weapons.” The Mormon Church handbook states, “Churches are dedicated for the worship of God and as havens from the cares and concerns of the world. With the exception of current law enforcement officers, the carrying of lethal weapons on church property, concealed or otherwise, is prohibited.” LINK

Speaking personally, I was talking to a friend who is in a leadership position in his local LDS church. Our conversation was the evening before the Michigan attack. I asked if LDS churches allow their members to go armed in church. They do not. That seems so odd to me, but it is more common than I thought. My friend is an expert in armed defense and in trauma care. He knows best practice. He also obeys his church leadership.

The problems of church security seems to run deeper than issues about physical defense. I think there are also psychological issues at work.

We all want to feel special. That is an undeniable part of human nature. I wonder if some church leaders think they are favored in the eyes of God. They imagine that evil might come to other churches, but not to them. Their view is confirmed every day that their church is not attacked. That view is dangerous. I know it hurts, but let’s ask the obvious questions-

How many church members have to be murdered before the church changes its security policy?
How many churches will be burned to the ground before the church leadership will reconsider its safety plans?

Let’s look one level deeper and ask again-

How many church members will be murdered before the members ignore their church leaders and protect themselves and their families? LINK

I again met Attorney Alan Beck at the Gun Rights Policy Conference. Alan lives in San Diego. Alan often sues the federal government for cases in Hawaii, in California, and in the District of Columbia. On Friday, the US Supreme Court agreed to take up a major new gun rights case focused on recent measures enacted in Hawaii that restrict where people with a license to carry a concealed handgun can bring their legally owned firearms.

The new law requires people with concealed carry permits to seek permission to bring their weapons onto private properties that are otherwise open to the public unless the owner already allows it. The law, enacted in 2023, also restricts gun owners from possessing their firearms in certain “sensitive places,” including beaches, parks and bars. The case has already been decided by lower courts, by appeals courts, and by the ninth circuit court of appeals.

One commentator said that Hawaii should just cede one of the Hawaiian islands to Allan for all the work he does there. Alan has one advantage that he didn’t have before. He now has Harmeet Dhillon, Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice, submitting briefs arguing with him rather than against him. Dhillon already called this an “important” case. LINK

Assistant AG Dhillon has more to say. She sued the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in federal court saying the department has violated Californians’ Second Amendment rights. The DOJ has documents that showed the LASD approved only two concealed carry weapons permits out of more than 8,000 applications over the course of 15 months. The required interviews were scheduled as far as two years out for applicants.

In the filing, the DOJ argued that LASD has “has systematically denied thousands of law-abiding Californians their fundamental Second Amendment right to bear arms outside the home. They did this not through outright refusal, but through a deliberate pattern of unconscionable delay that renders this constitutional right meaningless in practice.” Note that the carry permit is only good for two years. LINK

I know you don’t believe in polling, but a new poll came out last week. Republicans now lead Democrats by four points on gun policy and by a decisive 20 points on crime. These numbers show that defending the right to keep and bear arms is not only good policy—it’s good politics. They also confirm a larger trend: America supports President Trump’s pro-gun agenda. LINK

Are you a member or the Second Amendment Foundation or the Firearms Policy Coalition? Here is another reason you should be. A federal court ruled that prohibitions on carrying firearms in post offices are unconstitutional. This ruling applies nationwide for SAF and FPC members.

The judge said the law “is unconstitutional under the Second Amendment with respect to.. possession and carrying of firearms inside an ordinary United States Post Office or the surrounding Post Office property.” Close quote. There’s nothing in the order limiting it to Texas and the ruling applies to all members of the Second Amendment Foundation and Firearms Policy Coalition. LINK

Sometimes it stinks to be the DEI hire. You might have heard that the Des Moines Public Schools Superintendent was an illegal alian. He faked his education degree. He had no right to work in the US. He was recently picked up by ICE. He has now been charged with illegally possessing four firearms while in the U.S. without legal status. To set the record straight, some of my relatives are immigrants. Unlike Ian Roberts, they have their green card and don’t fake their resume.

The firearm charges were added that after ICE agents arrested Roberts last Friday morning. A Des Moines Public Schools employee came to pick up the district-owned car that Roberts was driving. Inside the car, the DMPS employee found a loaded firearm wrapped in a towel under the driver’s seat. The complaint stated the gun was bought by a woman believed to be Roberts’ wife. Doesn’t that mean that the fake Superintendent also violated federal firearms laws by knowingly carrying a loaded firearm onto school property every time he went to work? I guess laws are just for us little people. LINK

Firearm sales are up over a million guns a month again for September, 2025. This may be hunters buying new guns and the beginning of the Christmas buying season.

You might remember when Slow Joe Biden said he wanted to pause firearms exports. He did that just after Israel was attacked. The Trump Administration and the National Shooting Sports Federation removed the pause. Exporters can now move guns and gun parts across our borders. LINK  While we are at it, could they remove the import ban too?

Last weeks news-

A judge ruled that a Delaware law tightening gun regulations for gun owners under the age of 21 violates the state US Constitution. House Bill 451, which was signed into law in 2022 by former Gov. John Carney but just went into effect in July, raised the minimum age to purchase a gun in Delaware from 18 to 21.

The law also created adult supervision requirements for residents under the age of 21 while hunting in the state, drawing pushback from hunters as well as Republican lawmakers.

The Kent County Superior Court’s ruling, however, struck down the legislation’s age requirements on the grounds that they infringe upon 18-to-20-year old Delawareans’ constitutional right to self-defense. LINK

US Attorney General Pam Bondi and the Department of Justice filed an amicus brief supporting the challenge to New Jersey’s ban on “assault firearms” and “large-capacity magazines. On July 30, 2024, the district court held the “assault firearm” ban unconstitutional, but limited its ruling only to the Colt AR-15, and upheld the ban on magazines that hold over 10 rounds. Both sides appealed to the Third Circuit. After oral argument, but before the three-judge panel could issue a decision, the Third Circuit decided to rehear the case en banc. Oral arguments before the en banc court are scheduled for October 15, 2025. Link

The owners of a gun store in Tuscaloosa, Alabama were arrested and may lose their business license. A city ordinance requires dealers to hold secondhand items for 10 days before making them available for sale. The owners let specific customers know that the gun they wanted had come in and would then sell the guns after holding them for the period. Quote-  “We already knew who we were going to sell them to.. We put them in the computer as a layaway so we would know who’s going to be buying that gun after the 10 days.” That upset the gun grabbers in city hall. LINK

The City of Seattle is suing Glock and several gun stores in Western Washington after the city claims Glock pistols are too easy to convert into illegal machine guns. The city claimed that Glocks are being turned into machine guns with cheap parts or 3D printing. What the city didn’t say is that they keep releasing violent criminals who use guns and have glock switches. Newer models of glock don’t take the switch. LINK

A Florida appeals court struck down the state’s ban on open carry of firearms saying it violated the second amendment. Manatee County Sheriff Rick Wells said the court decision is effective immediately, though restrictions remain on where firearms may be openly carried. Open carry is still prohibited at county and city commission meetings, courthouses, police stations, sheriff’s offices, bars and bar areas of restaurants, and schools. It is also banned at school-sponsored events, on school property, on school buses, and at bus stops, including colleges and universities. LINK

Most of us remember how a young woman was brutally murdered on public transportation only a few weeks ago. Now, the second circuit court for New York said that banning firearms on New York’s public transportation system is legal. No one ever said it was safe or effective. LINK

Back to Florida, a Florida senator filed a bill to allow volunteers to provide security for places of worship. You can carry concealed at church, but if you do so as part of an organized team, then you have to be a licensed security guard. The proposed bill would allow concealed carriers to defend their church if the security plan is approved by the local sheriff’s office, and the volunteers don’t receive compensation for the security work. Quoting the senator, “..pastors in my area came to me with the request.. I hope the bill help churches who feel like they have to protect themselves and their parishioners.” close quote.

Florida politicians made places of worship into defense free zones. Crazy people noticed the easy targets. Now the politicians want to undo the harm they caused. How about this, don’t go full-stupid in the first place? LINK

Attorney Alan Beck wins another case in Hawaii. A Hawaiian citizen asked the local police department if he could get the permission slip required to legally buy another gun. The local police said no because there was a noise complaint when he trapped and killed wild pigs on his property. He killed the pigs with guns he already owned. The judge said that is wrong. U.S. District Judge Micah Smith said that the issuing authorities quote “shall not deny a permit to purchase based only on a police report if the applicant is not also being prosecuted for a felony, a crime of violence, a criminal offense relating to firearms, or an illegal sale or distribution of any drug in a court in this State or elsewhere, related to the allegations in the police report, with such criminal prosecution being evidenced by a then existing criminal complaint, information or indictment.” Close quote. LINK

Why Aren’t We Safe in Church?

October 1, 2025
Image

A murderer attacked an LDS church in Michigan. I was talking to a friend who is in a leadership position in his local LDS church. Our conversation was the evening before the Michigan attack. I asked if LDS churches allow their members to go armed in church. They do not. That seems so odd to me, but it is more common than I thought. My friend is an expert in armed defense and in trauma care. He knows best practice. He also obeys his church leadership.

My friend has a lot of duties. He governs his church and their missionaries. He is also responsible for the church’s Relief Society that does charity work in the community. Let that sink in for a minute.

My friend has a lot on his mind. He worries about the safety of his missionaries as they travel around the globe. He worries about the safety of the people who come to his church in need. My friend provides continuing guidance for the many groups that meet in his church. Churches help new moms, teenagers, and on up to the elderly. That is a good thing.. and a lot to worry about. If a crazy man would assasinate Charlie Kirk, then none of us are safe.

What once worked for church safety does not work today. The original idea was that a few church members would probably be involved with law enforcement. Some of the church members would be sworn officers who could carry a firearm concealed in public. They are allowed to go armed on church property. Church officials asked these LEOs to provide protection. Those church members were acting as church security guards. The idea of using officers and deputies that way dates back to the era when concealed carry by civilians was uncommon. Many things have changed.

Today, churches do a lot. They might provide preschool play-dates. They have support groups for young moms. They have continuing religious education classes for young men and women. In a very real sense, the church is always open. The original idea of asking a few deputies to provide security failed too softly to cause alarm. I think all of the church members are valuable and deserve protection.

If the church loves us, then why are our families left undefended?

I’m sure the church answers the call if a young woman asks for help in the middle of the night. They find her a safe place to stay. They will help her move. In the middle of the night, they send the dads and brothers who would do as much for their sister. They provide their own security.

I find it odd that the people who respond for the church in the middle of the night
are better protected than the congregations during a church service.

The simple solutions that worked for a Sunday service doesn’t work for the 24-7 church we see today. We know there are solutions to keep church members safe. We know because other churches solve that problem every day. Today, the number of adults who legally carry a concealed firearm in public has increased dramatically. These licensed gun owners outnumber LEOs by about 25-to-1. About one-in-a-dozen adults are legally armed in public today. They protect themselves and their family everywhere they go.. except when they are disarmed in church.

I know it hurts, but let’s ask the obvious questions.

How many church members have to be murdered
before the church changes its security policy?
How many churches will be burned to the ground
before the church leadership will reconsider its safety plans?

Let’s look one level deeper and ask again. How many church members will be murdered
before the members ignore their church leaders
and protect themselves and their families?

I think you are important. Your life and your family are valuable. You have a right to ask about your safety in church. I hope you get honest and reassuring answers no matter which church you attend.

If your church won’t change to keep you safe, then it is probably time to change churches.

The Dangerous Lie from the Left- Why Speech is not Violence

September 11, 2025
Image

Someone assassinated Charlie Kirk. Read the posts on BlueSky and you will see that many people wanted him dead. A few people made it easier to murder people they didn’t like by claiming that “speech” is “violence”. That is absurdly dangerous for all of us.

Violence means using physical force to hurt, damage, or kill someone or something. Violence may be justified or not justified. Speech is expressing thoughts and feelings by articulate sounds. These thoughts may conform to reality or they may be distortions. The feelings may be genuine or they may be lies. Violence and speech are not the same thing and someone who says they are is lying for a reason. They don’t want you to ask questions and to call out their lies.

Claiming that speech is violence sets a very dangerous precedent. You don’t defend yourself against ideas you agree with. but those you don’t. You use violence against someone who first initiates violence against you. Saying that speech is violence lets you use violence against someone who says something you don’t like. It is a way to silence those who disagree with you.

Look at it this way. If their speech is violence, is your speech violence too. Saying that speech is violence is the death knell of discussion. If speech is violence then the only safe position is silence.. but that fails too. Silence in the face of evil is not safe. Silence in the face of lies is not safe even if the lies are unintentional. Saying that speech is violence demands that some opinions are unquestionable. We call that totalitarianism.

I am used to hard questions. I spent most of my working life doing hard things that had not been done before. That meant there wasn’t a recipe for success. More precisely, there were many recipes but it wasn’t clear if we could follow all of them at the same time. It wasn’t clear if we would succeed even if we followed every rule we could find. The reason is that there are uncountable ways to fail and only a few ways to do something that will survive the tests of nature and of man.

I tell you that because I begged for criticism. I asked the people who liked me to find my mistakes. I asked people who disliked me to find the flaws in my ideas. Even then, I didn’t do that enough to uncover all the ways to fail. I had to stumble my way toward success through repeated failure. Progress is painful.

That sounds dramatic. It isn’t. My failures were often loud. The worse ones were expensive and slow. I think we all feel that same way about our lives. We are trying to work out the best path forward. Let me offer you this advice: deviate from the tested road at your peril because there are a lot of ways to fail.

It is a huge act of arrogance to think that the world is out to get you and that is why your shiny new idea failed. I was never that special. The world showed me my failures because I didn’t stop it. The world probably isn’t that concerned with you either. You can fail on your own and the world probably doesn’t care one way or another. You can blame the world for your own failures, but that means you don’t learn very much. Life is tough enough already and refusing to learn life’s lessons makes your life harder than it has to be. Freewill means you can be stupid.

We need free speech so we can learn from others. They tell us about their own experience. We can learn from their hard-won wisdom. Someone who tells you that you’re going to get hurt might be offering you valuable advice. It takes courage to listen.

Some people are cowards. Some people want to live in a world of dreams that are never tested. They don’t want to be informed that their “new idea” failed before. They will demand your silence so they can live in a comfortable fantasy.

Those people are dangerous. Shout at them. Anyone who says that speech is violence plans to hurt you if you dare to disagree with them. Disagree with them now.

Call out their lies. Shout first. Shout loud. You can’t “talk” with someone who gets to use violence against you whenever they want.

It is easier to be brave.

Repost- New York to pay over $817,000 in settlement over church gun ban

September 7, 2025

A district court has ordered New York to pay over $817,000 in attorneys’ fees to settle a lawsuit against a state ban on people carrying firearms in houses of worship. In 2022, His Tabernacle Family Church and its pastor, Micheal Spencer, sued the state over a law prohibiting firearms in certain areas, including church properties. The United States District Court for the Western District of New York issued a decision and order on Tuesday, requiring the state to pay $817,636.50 in attorneys’ fees, plus $7,166.60 in other costs. U.S. District Judge John L. Sinatra Jr., a Trump appointee, authored the order, writing that “the facts and circumstances of this case justify granting Plaintiffs’ request in full.”

-Woman in Nashville defends her home. LINK

-Rideshare driver defends himself from his passenger. LINK

-A man in Southern California opened fire on two burglars in his home. Police were called at about 2:10 a.m. The homeowner heard a noise in another bedroom. The defender armed himself and found two intruders. He chased them through the house shooting at the suspects. The suspects left before deputies arrived. Police don’t know if either suspect was wounded. LINK

We saw an open assasination of a woman by a homeless person in downtown Philadelphia. That might sound similar to the stabbing of a Ukrainian immigrant on a train in Charlotte. Please go armed.

2A News-

After seeing the news from Great Britain, I’m glad that our government is afraid of us. Pakistani muslims in Britain grab young women with impunity. They know they are a favored class. Let me be clear about what that means. Anyone who prosecutes a muslim for rape will not receive a muslim vote. Anyone who says that men don’t belong in women’s sports or women’s bathrooms gets arrested. Like I said, I’m glad that our US government is afraid of us.

The USA is remarkably peaceful. You wouldn’t know that if you looked at our nation’s capital.

2024 Data Shows-

  • D.C.’s violent crime rate is 39% higher than the highest state, Alaska. It is 198% higher than the average.
  • D.C.’s murder rate is 136% higher than the highest state, Louisiana. It is 434% higher than the average.
  • D.C.’s rape rate is 72% lower than the highest state, Alaska. And it is 12% lower than the average.
  • D.C.’s robbery rate is an incredible 291% higher than the highest state, Maryland. It is 1005% higher than the average.
  • D.C.’s aggravated assault rate is 21% lower than the highest state, New Mexico. It is 93% higher than the average.
  • D.C.’s property crime rate is 34% higher than the highest state, New Mexico. It is 121% higher than the average. LINK

The Trump administration started prosecuting criminals on the streets of DC, and they stopped murders for 13 days straight. That wasn’t a statistical anomaly. Add to that result, the New York times said the crackdown in DC would make crime worse. LINK

President Donald Trump streamlined the gun permitting process for honest citizens in the District of Columbia. D.C. residents now schedule next-day appointments to register their firearms with the Metropolitan Police Department. Walk-in appointments are available and advertised on the police department’s website. Before the restructuring, DC applicants had to wait up to four months for a registration appointment. LINK

In Chicago Illinois, the mayor refused to say that said police reduce crime. Then again, Chicago gangs killed 9 people and wounded 46 others over the labor day weekend. LINK The USA is remarkably peaceful once you exclude the failed Democrat controlled cities. It rivals the safest states in Europe. LINK

A mall on the New Hampshire/Massachusetts border is the unlikely scene of a legal dispute. The Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts said “the Second Amendment right to bear arms is not absolute,” and the state is not prohibited from “requiring firearm licenses for persons within its borders.”

But the New Hampshire attorney general says the permitting process for nonresidents is “burdensome” and can take up to 170 days. New Hampshire also makes the argument that Constitutional rights “cannot be subject to differing standards based solely on geography.”

The filing uses the Pheasant Lane Mall, which straddles the border of the two states, as an example. It says a New Hampshire resident legally carrying a gun through one part of the mall risks being charged as a felon if they were to visit certain stores. Stores are not clearly marked as being part of Massachusetts.

The attorney general said, “Massachusetts’s approach treats nonresidents as second-class citizens, imposes arbitrary and excessive restrictions, and contradicts both historical tradition and Supreme Court precedent, We filed this brief to defend the principle that constitutional rights travel with the individual—not just within their home state, but across the United States.” I’ve never been arrested for visiting Buffalo Wild Wings, but welcome to the commonwealth. LINK

Teachers unions are promoting gun control.. again. Randi Weingarten – the president of AFT said, “There are more guns on the streets than we have people. And the principal cause of death for kids is these kind of killings,” referring to the attack at a church in Minniapolis. “We have to fight for a nationwide assault weapons ban. Part of that fight is to create a culture that human life means more than a gun culture.” I disagree. We use a firearm to stop a lethal assault of great bodily injury almost three million times a year. We need a culture where our children’s lives are more important than an Anti-right New York Billionaire’s campaign contributions. LINK.

We’re learning more about the transsexual murderer from Minneapolis. He said something I had not heard before. He said, “I don’t want to [do] it to spread a message. I do it to please myself. I do it because I am sick”

Congressman Massie put forward a bill to repeal the gun free school zones act. Unfortunately, Massie picked a fight with the Trump administration earlier this year. Poor choice, Congressman.

A judge ruled last week that a Delaware law tightening gun regulations for residents under the age of 21 violates the state Constitution.

LINK

A food delivery driver was attacked by an armed robber at 1am. The attack was in Hampton, Virginia. The defender was armed. Both men shot at each other. The attacker ran away. The defender was uninjured and called 911 for help. The police found a dead man nearby. They are waiting for identification and ballistic testing to see if the corpse was the robber. (Link)

Self defense can be complicated. A man attacked his girlfriend in Harrison Township, Michigan. The now ex-boyfriend then used a knife to attack another man who was renting a room in the house. The renter defended himself. He shot the attacker. It isn’t clear who called 911, if it was the girlfriend or the renter. You have the right to stop the assault on an innocent third party. That said, the former girlfriend may testify against you. You have every right to defend yourself. (Link)

2A News-

For every problem there is a quick, cheap, and simple solution.. that doesn’t work. Our 23-thousand firearms regulations failed at a Catholic church in Minneapolis. The bodies were still warm when Governor Walz called for more gun control. Don’t  support failure simply because you feel bad. A mentally ill person attacked a church. Just like the murderer at a school in Florida, the police had been called to the murderer’s home several times to investigate his mental health.

We’ve been there before. So I asked why are we attracted to solutions that fail time after time? (Link)

Using the attack at a church as a springboard, Wisconsin democrats want to make college campuses into gun free zones. (Link)

In a significant policy announcement aimed at strengthening self-defense rights, Conservative Canadian Politician Pierre Poilievre called on the federal government to amend the Criminal Code. He asked for a presumption of reasonableness regarding the use of force in home invasion scenarios. Poilievre said that if the government does not take action, his party will introduce a private member’s bill in the fall to implement these changes. This came to light after an Ontario man armed with a crossbow broke into a home. The homeowner put the attacker in the hospital. The homeowner was charged with aggravated assault. It appears he used a knife to defend himself. (Link)

A couple was murdered in front of their children while the family walked along a trail in an Arkansas park. The head of the Arkansas State Police, Col. Mike Hagar, spoke before a legislative subcommittee, saying quote “the more good people that we have with weapons and the ability to defend themselves, the better we all are. Gun-free zones are a problem. Limiting guns does not lead to less crime.” close quote. Prohibited places inside the park include visitor information centers, gift shops, cafes and restaurants, maintenance buildings, museums, marina offices, recreation buildings, and designated lodges. That makes the park more dangerous rather than making it safer.

I have to ask where Colonel Hagar’s wisdom was when the bill was passed through the legislature. It took an embarrassing murder for him to realize the obvious. (Link)

A panel of Tennessee judges has ruled against two state restrictions on carrying guns. The ruling affects public recreational areas such as playgrounds and parks. The Tennessee laws that were deemed unconstitutional include one that generally outlaws carrying a gun in a park or similar area, except for someone with a permit to carry a handgun. The impact of the ruling late last week has not been completely clear, as public officials try to figure out how the ruling applies to other laws. The Tennessee Firearms Association said it court’s ruling will let people carry rifles or shotguns publicly. The ruling doesn’t get that specific.

Who wants to be the test case? (Link)

How to show that you’re an isolated elitist in only 18 words. The ATF showed a picture of a criminal with a gun in his pants and said “concealed carry ‘puts everyone involved at risk’. Writer Lee Williams reposted the ATF on X. (Link)

A twenty year veteran of the ATF cashed in. Marianna Mitchem, ATF’s former Associate Assistant Director of Industry Operations, is now working for former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg’s anti-gun group, Everytown for Gun Safety. Mitchem is reaching out to her former colleagues trying to target GLOCK and GLOCK-type handguns. (Link)

What We Didn’t Learn About Mass Murder

August 30, 2025
Image from the Melnick Medical Museum

For every problem there is a quick, cheap, and simple solution.. that doesn’t work. A mentally ill person attacked a church in Minneapolis, Minnesota. We’ve been there before. Why are we attracted to solutions that fail time after time?

We love our children. Let’s put up a plastic sign that tells honest people to keep their guns outside our schools. It turns out that murderers are attracted by plastic signs that advertise disarmed victims. We would rather put up another sign than admit that criminals ignore our regulations.

We love to concentrate on our spiritual life at church. It is a rare moment to escape from the pressing cares of the world. Let’s pass a regulation so that honest citizens won’t bring their guns to church. It turns out that our honest neighbors were never a violent problem. Narcissistic mass-murderers look for disarmed victims. These murderers almost always attack “gun-free” zones. Why do we want to make it easier for violent murderers to find their victims?

We hate the idea that our laws don’t work. That is why we require mandatory background checks before someone may buy or own a firearm. Background checks don’t work on criminals because criminals don’t buy their guns at gun shops any more than they buy their drugs at the drug store. Background checks look backwards, and mass-murder is a one-and-done carrier choice.

In hindsight, mass murderers look crazy. Unfortunately, we seldom see mental health professionals diagnose and report a violent patient. We have seen several mass-murderers who were receiving mental health counselling. Experience taught us that mental health treatment isn’t aways a cure. We shouldn’t count on talk-therapy to protect the people we love.

Maybe you once wanted to hurt your neighbors. I’ll bet that feeling left as quickly as it came. Since sober reflection works to stops most of us, we passed mandatory waiting periods in the hope that gun-control regulations would stop violent murderers. It turns out that violent murderers are not like us. They are persistent. They spend years pleasantly planning their violent revenge. Waiting periods don’t stop mass-murderers, but they do disarm honest people who have an urgent need for armed defense. I don’t want our laws to disarm people who flee domestic abuse.

Politicians sold us ammunition capacity restrictions in the hope that less capable murderers would lead to fewer victims. That doesn’t really work in practice. Our honest neighbors defend themselves with a firearm about 2.8-million times a year. The victims are usually the first responders who stop violence. Making the victim less capable doesn’t make us safer when a crazy man attacks a church. We’ve seen what honest defenders can do time after time.

We are wiser as we grow older. That was why we passed age restrictions on firearms purchases and ownership. It also turns out that young people are frequent victims of crime. Disarming the co-ed as she walks home from her job at the convenience store doesn’t make us safer. It does make her an easier victim, and that is what criminals look for.

We know what works. The mass-murderers told us what they wanted. Also, we conducted the experiment with armed defenders a few million times. We’ve never had a mass murderer attack a school that publicly posted a policy of armed school staff. If we want to stop the attack before it happens, then we take down the no-guns signs that attract mass murderers. In public spaces where our neighbors are allowed to defend themselves, we see them save the next dozen victims who would die if we waited for the police to defend us. Unfortunately, defending your school, your church, or your home is harder than passing a law and putting up a plastic sign.

We know how to save lives. Our doctor tells us to eat moderately and exercise regularly. Armed defense isn’t hard, and it works. Like following our doctor’s advice, the difficult news is that we have to do it every day.

IDAHO- At approximately 11:00pm this evening (Aug 19), Bingham County Deputies were dispatched to the area of 1100 E. and 1300 N. east of Shelley to a report of shots fired. The reporting party advised a homeowner encountered a suspect on their property attempting to take a 4-wheeler. During the encounter shots were fired injuring both the homeowner and suspect who then fled on foot. Bingham County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on scene and requested further assistance from nearby Law Enforcement agencies to establish a perimeter and search for the suspect. Officers from Shelley and Blackfoot Police responded along with Idaho State Police and Bonneville County Sheriff’s Deputies. Shelley Fire and Ambulance personnel were also called to the scene and transported the injured homeowner to EIRMC in Idaho Falls for treatment of a gunshot wound. A perimeter was set up around the residence and Deputies began searching for the suspect who was believed to be wounded and armed. During the search, Bingham and Bonneville County Deputies located the suspect in a field next to the residence and shots were fired by Deputies from both agencies. Deputies immediately began life saving measures, however the suspect died at the scene. Link

Defensive car use? Does a V8 beat a 9mm? A suspect is in the hospital after threatening his ex-girlfriend and a teen at gunpoint in Buckeye [AZ] on Monday night, in what police described as a “chaotic scene.” Around 8:30 p.m., Buckeye police responded to a shots-fired call on Shooting Star Lane, near Baseline and Rooks roads. As officers were arriving, they were notified about a crash nearby, in the area of Maricopa Road and Sunset Point Boulevard. That’s where officers found a man lying on the road in critical condition. There was also a gun on the ground nearby. As police investigated, they learned the man had violated an active order of protection by going to his ex-girlfriend’s house and threatening her. A teen boy who lives in the home then told the suspect to leave. As the suspect was getting ready to drive away in a truck, police say he fired a shot at the teen. According to police, the teen then got into his own car and was leaving the area when he saw the suspect’s truck nearby. The teen told police the suspect got out of the car and pointed his gun at him, so he ran him over. The suspect remains hospitalized. No other injuries were reported, and no one has been arrested. Buckeye police are still investigating. (Your vehicle often makes a more powerful weapon than any firearm that you can carry. Police used to refer this type of defense as “straining the guy through the radiator.”)  Link

Joliet, Illinois mom stops armed home invader- A mother with a baby fatally shot a suspected home invader in the south suburbs on Friday night, police said. Joliet [IL] police said officers responded to a report of a home invasion in the 7000-block of Hadrian Drive around 10:30 p.m. Police said the woman, armed with a gun, heard someone break into her home. That’s when she took her child and hid in a bedroom closet on the second floor. Police believe that when the suspect entered that bedroom, the woman opened fire, striking him in the head. The suspect was pronounced dead on the scene. Responding officers found the woman and her child in the adjacent bedroom, police said. The suspect was wearing gloves and had a screwdriver at the time. The woman did not know who he was, and his identity has not yet been released… (All’s well that ends well but… It sounds as though the woman may have scored a head shot through a closed door. Although the distance is not given, that sounds pretty lucky. I remain an advocate of ensconcing in a safe room rather than seeking out intruders but closets may not be the best choice. Most are narrow – a disadvantage if it’s the intruder who fires through the closed door.) Link

2A News-

Gun shops In New Jersey get to find out what the law means in court when they are sued. What are “reasonable controls in place” when they sell ammunition and gun parts? Link

A federal appeals court in Florida overturned Florida law. The judge said medical marajuana users can apply for and receive firearms permits. In the short term, that puts Florida law at odds with federal law. President Trump said he wants to change drug laws that classify marajuana as a schedule 1 drug. That should also make it easier for people who have a marajuana drug conviction to have their second amendment rights restored. Link

A three judge panel of the tenth circuit court decided that New Mexico’s mandatory waiting period was unconstitutional. Think about what the law said. You could have a handgun, but you had to wait before you could buy another one. You could have a rifle, but you had to wait to buy another one. You could have a carry permit and legally carry a firearm in public, but you were considered to be a risk if you bought another firearm without waiting seven days to take possession of it. The judges weren’t buying it. Link

We have some bad news. A federal appeals court said that Connecticut’s ban of modern rifles and magazines was constitutional. That case will be appealed. It isn’t clear if the US Supreme court will ever take another gun case. Link

President Trump appointed Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey to be the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s (FBI’s) co-deputy director. Bailey is a strong supporter of the second amendment. Link

Staying with more Trump news. President Trump took over many of the government functions of Washington DC. There was not a single murder on the streets of DC for the last 9 days. The last time that DC went even a week without a murder was six months ago in March.

President Donald Trump said that he was open to “expanding the national concealed carry” to Washington, DC, during a press briefing on Friday. Quote, “I’m in favor of it. People have to protect themselves. I’m a Second Amendment person. Very simply, people have to be able to protect themselves. Especially like in Washington, you walk down the street, a guy comes up and slugs you. He’s got a he’s got a pistol in his hand. You can be tough. You can be in great shape. You can be a powerful person, or you can be a guy that weighs 100 pounds with a gun in your hand. And I’ll bet on the guy with a gun 100% of the time, right? So you need protection. So I’m a Second Amendment person.”

Although Washington, DC allows for concealed carry, the application and regulations around firearms are much more complex for the nation’s capital city. Trump ordered that purchase permits and carry would be issued in days rather than months. Now it appears that he wants to issue carry-reciprocity with other states and DC. That would be good news for everyone. Link

There is some good news for people who have to work or travel through New York State. Like Washington, DC, New York doesn’t recognize carry permits from any other state. Also, they required that you have a New York State ID before they would accept your application to get a carry license. A federal judge out of Albany said that permitting scheme is unconstitutional. That New York state and city must issue permits to people from out of state. Link

A judge told the State of California that it had to accept, process, and grant carry permits from out of state residents. The state asked for an injunction and that request was denied. The state replied that applicants had to fill out an additional 10 page application and swear that they were going to visit the county where they were applying. A judge issued a stay on those new regulations. It now appears that we could apply to any county in California and your permit is good across the state. The costs and requirements vary widely in different counties. I’m sure that the California Rifle and Pistol Association will have recommendations in a few weeks.
In Ohio, a Franklin County judge sided with the state, ruling that Ohio can restrict Columbus and other cities from passing local gun regulations. This is the latest development in a multi-year and multi-case legal battle between the state legislatures and cities. Columbus challenged the state’s “Firearms-Uniformity Law,” which prevents local governments from regulating guns. In turn, the state has challenged Columbus for passing a package of gun-control legislation in late 2022. Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Mark Serrott, a Democrat, granted the state summary judgment in a decision filed on Aug. 19. He ruled against Columbus’ argument that the state law violates the home rule amendment of the Ohio Constitution that allows municipalities to enact laws to protect the safety of their residents. News Stories of Defensive Gun Use-

This story starts in Wolcott, Connecticut. A 55 year old man was separated from his wife and his adult son. After an argument, the man shot his wife. His son tried to get between the two of them to protect his mother. The father shot his son. The son’s friend was at the scene and the friend was a legal concealed carry holder. He was armed. The murderer pointed his gun at the son’s friend and the friend then shot his attacker several times. The friend then called 911 and asked for help. Unfortunately, all of the family members died from their injuries. The defender was not charged.

2A news-

Ammunition prices are down. So GBAT (Go Buy Another Thousand)

President Trump issued an executive order to end Operation Choakpoint where banking regulators de-bank their political opponents. The original laws were passed to restrict banks who laundered money for drug dealers. Barack Obama told the banking regulators to de-bank gun companies and gun owners. Biden de-banked voting integrity organizations and the lawyers who defended Trump. Trump ended that policy.

Selecting government personnel is how politicians establish policy. President Donald Trump nominated a judge for the U.S. Ninth Circuit. This judge, Eric Tung, has been an member of the the International Defensive Pistol Association for five years. That means the judge has owned and trained with firearms.. a lot. He is intimately familiar with concealed carry. Judge Eric Tung was nominated on the 30th of July. We will see how long it takes Senate Republicans to approve the judge.

Republicans in North Carolina overrode the Democrat Governor’s veto of a bill. It will become law that private schools may allow staff or volunteers to defend students at school. It is beyond me why this was controversial. The attack at Columbine High School was in 1999. So far, the House has not overridden the bill to allow 18, 19, and 20 year olds to carry without a license.

In another story of societal change, a democrat activist asked politicians to lie so they could get into office. We’re used to them lying once they are in office, but the democrat platform is so out of touch, that activists have changed their tune. The right to keep and bear arms is popular, so say you support it and then pass gun control once you are in office and have the advantage of an incumbent. The left wing advocates also said that candidates should lie about abortion. Now you know why we don’t trust Democrat politicians. https://www.shootingnewsweekly.com/gun-control/gun-control-has-become-too-unpopular-for-dems-to-campaign-on-it-at-the-national-level/

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. Technical problems stopped us from recording. Here is our material.

We are not the society we used to be as we learn about mass murderers. Derrick Perry is a marine veteran. We saw his picture after he drew his concealed handgun on the homeless addict who attacked 11 people with a knife. The attack happened a week ago in Wayne Michigan. Perry wasn’t alone. One veteran inside the store helped push the attacker outside. Once they were outside, someone else hit the attacker with a shopping cart. Derrick Perry drew his firearm and forced the attacker to drop his knife. Other bystanders then tackled the attacker to the ground.

The Iron Pig Smokehouse offered free BBQ meals for life to the defender, Derrick Perry. They made the same offer to the citizens who pushed the attacker outside and tackled him. Roy’s General Store in Traverse City is offering free fountain pop and coffee all week to CPL holders “as a thank-you for being prepared”. I can’t buy you a free meal or drink, but thank you for carrying concealed today. Link
After the attack in Wayne, gun stores across Michigan have reported a surge of interest in getting a concealed carry license. They have had to schedule more classes. I want to interject this comment. The defenders recognized a threat and were willing to use physical force to stop it. That takes more study than simply getting your carry permit.

2A news-

The crazy is strong with this one. San Antonio police arrested a 33 year old woman. A relative reported the woman’s son to police after they found ammunition and improvised explosives. Police also put together threats that the 13 year old son made against his middle school. The son worshiped mass murderers. He had drawn a map of the school and labeled it suicide route. The police also found a picture of the mom pointing a shotgun at her 11 month old daughter. The daughter’s father does not live with the woman and her children. The mother was charged with aiding in the commission of terrorism, child endangerment and criminal negligence. Link.

Speaking of crazy- A man from Las Vegas drove across the country to attack the National Football League offices in New York City. The man looks black. The news reports called him white. He has a history of mental health issues. Again, doctors failed to report that he was a danger to himself and others. He worked as a security guard for a Las Vegas casino. All of New York’s gun control laws failed. They left the victims disarmed. The police were on the scene before the attack and even they were unable to stop the murderer.

As is the predictable rule, gun control New York Democrat politicians told us to ban the gun. They ignored the fact that we use long guns for legal armed defense more than 300 thousand times a year. Their ideology can’t withstand the facts. Murder is illegal. Carrying without a license is illegal. New York asked for a background check before you buy ammunition. None of that worked to stop this murderer. When I asked them, the gun control advocates said, but it might work sometime. We’ve seen how self-defense works, and it works a lot. We’ve also seen how gun-control fails.

Gun Ownership is up and crime is falling. We saw lots of people buy guns when the police decided to stay home during covid. We sat them buy guns when protestors rioted in democrat controlled cities. We have partial statistics for this year that say crime is down and falling. Through May of 2025, murder was down 20 percent relative to the first 5 months of 2024, down 37 percent relative to the first 5 months of 2021 (at the height of the murder surge), and down 9 percent relative to the first 5 months of 2019 wich was before the covid crime surge. The rolling 12 month average for muder has fallen below 2019’s level. Violent crime is down roughly 11 percent, while property crime is down 12 percent.

Confirming that trend, a new report from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs (WASPC) shows murder and violent crime in the Evergreen State declined in 2024, while a check of data from the state Department of Licensing (DOL) shows the number of active concealed pistol licenses increased last year.

This story is from a few weeks ago, but I want to cover some follow on news. A Three-judge appeals court in California said a California law requiring background checks for people who buy bullets is unconstitutional. The original legislation was to issue ID-cards for gun owners. You had to show the ID card to buy ammunition. The California DOJ turned that into a background check and a fee for every purchase. When their background check system didn’t work, then you couldn’t buy ammo. The fees run between 1 dollar and 19 dollars. The law also stopped ammunition shipments from out of state.

With the new court ruling, Ammunition wholesalers asked if they can now ship to California residents. The California Department of Justice refused to answer that question. The Firearms Police Coalition recommended that ammunition sellers should ask the Cal DOJ to contact them, but then go ahead and sell ammunition until an injunction is in force. We don’t know if the ruling will be appealed. The full panel of judges in the 9th circuit loves gun control. The question is if they will risk the ruling being appealed to the US Supreme court. Illinois and New York want California to lose small rather than lose large.

The great news is that ammunition prices are down. So GBAT (Go Buy Another Thousand)

Government personnel selection is policy. President Donald Trump nominated a judge for the U.S. Ninth Circuit. This judge, Eric Tung, has been an member of the the International Defensive Pistol Association for five years. That means the judge has owned and trained with firearms.

So far, the North Carolina House has not overridden the bill to allow 18, 19, and 20-year-olds to carry without a license. Those same young adults are allowed to carry concealed with a license. They are not allowed to buy a handgun at a gun store.

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. We only talked about some of it. Here is the audio of our conversation as well as the links to my news sources.

Episode audio from Spotify is here.

News Stories of Defensive Gun Use-

This story is out of Orlando, Florida. A woman was talking to her ex-boyfriend in a mall parking lot. They argued. He stabbed her in her neck, back, stomach, shoulder, thigh, and both breasts. She got out of his car and ran. As she ran into the mall, a bystander drew his gun and stopped the attacker who was following the victim. The attacker said “the problem is with her, not you.” The defender did not yield. Someone in the store called 911. The victim was taken to the hospital and survived. The attacker was charged with resisting an officer without violence, aggravated assault, and attempted murder. The attacker was denied bond. The defender was not charged. Several people witnessed the attack and the attack was captured on surveillance video.

This story is out of Houston Texas. Your sister is having trouble with her ex. The ex comes over and kicks down her apartment door. The ex and his buddy attack your sister’s new boyfriend. They trash the house. They attack your sister. Then, the buddy attacks you. You fight back. The attacker draws a gun. You present a firearm and shoot the attacker. Now the attackers drive away. You don’t follow. You walk home. You and your mom call the police. It isn’t clear what happened to the gun you used in self-defense. You are 16 years old.

Have you heard of a flash mob? Well a gang of robbers needed six cars to do a smash and grab at a jewelry store in Anaheim, California. The thieves brought sledgehammers to smash the display cases. They brought bags to carry the necklaces, bracelets, rings and watches. All of them wore black hoodies. The store had bulletproof laminated doors and windows. That bought the store owner and his employees time. They retreated to the back room. The owner drew his firearm. When the owner saw part of a robber through the shattered glass, he shot at the bullet-proof door. The 18 robbers ran. Democrat politicians in California say an 11-round magazine is too large for civilians to own. Interesting legal point, I don’t know what the store owner might be charged with since he was shooting at a bullet-proof glass door. The video is worth watching and it will be up on my blog. Better yet if you’re a store owner, how about having some of your staff armed and also trained in first aid. Link

2A news-

In related news, a congressman from Wisconsin proposed a bill to ban magazine capacity restrictions nationwide.

That also came to mind when I learned that licensed Israeli gun owners are not supposed to have more than one box, 50 rounds, of ammunition in their homes. Bureaucrats are evil everywhere. https://www.ammoland.com/2025/07/when-restricted-ammo-purchase-are-an-improvement/

A Three-judge appeals court in California said a voter-backed California law requiring background checks for people who buy bullets is unconstitutional. I’m reading more of Ed Monk’s book about attacks at churches and schools. The title is First 30 Seconds. The book is written for readers who are unfamiliar with mass murderers. It is part history book because the attack at Columbine High school was 25 years ago, and we have not learned the lessons. It is fascinating for what it says, and as applied psychology. To start, Ed Monk focuses on one attack after another. He does that because audiences don’t believe him if he summarizes the data. We don’t feel a statistic. We feel story after story. The examples also reinforce what you and I have heard in class after self-defense class. Here is an example.

Parkland High School was attacked seven years ago. During the attack, a teacher told her students to hide under their desks. She did that because that was what they had drilled into their heads for a Tornado warning. If the only plan you have is for a Tornado, then that is what you’ll do under stress because we can’t think under stress.

This teacher watched her students die as the murderer shot through the door and the walls. If the murderer shattered the lock and entered her classroom, then she planned to hug the murderer and tell him that they loved him.. Because how can you shoot someone who loves you. Close quote.

What I hear is that this school teacher only had one tool, and that was empathy and compassion. The bad news is that some problems can’t be solved with more empathy and compassion. That is a lesson for all of us. Law enforcement and the military already know that lesson.

This teacher was never given relevant training for an attacker in her school. Why didn’t the school district safety officer have better safety plans in place?  Most people struggle with the fact that there are people who want to kill them. There are human beings who look like us and they have no compassion for us or for other people. They will kill us. Many police officers learn this. Many in our military learn this. It is not required that our educators are ever exposed to it or to learn that some people don’t care.

Personally, I’m glad that so many of us care about each other, but any plan that requires everyone to play nice is going to fail and get people killed. There are people who will kill us so that the news media will make them famous. The thing that protects our students isn’t shatterproof glass and door locks. Our students are protected by angry parents asking questions at the next school board meeting. If you are one of the few people moved by facts, then one out of 30 people suffer from narcissism.

Speaking of California, Podcast celebrity Joe Rogan gave California Governor Gavin Newsom a Glock handgun. That is the same Glock that California Legislators want to ban since early model Glocks will accept Glock switches. The switches interfere with the seer and convert the handgun into a machine pistol. The late model Glocks that can’t be converted are already banned in California. That proves that gun control is not about firearm safety.

I talked with Tom Gresham about Ed Monk’s new book and defending schools from mass murderers. Why are we afraid to protect our children? Tom Gresham’s Gun Talk Radio Our segment starts at 26:30.

I also talked with Bill Frady on his Lock-N-Load podcast. We covered second-amendment news as well as two self-defensive stories.

Here are the show notes from Bill’s show. As usual, we only talked about a few of them.

Defensive Gun Use

DGU 1- A young man and two young women came to a residence in Memphis and kicked down the front door. The homeowner was armed. The homeowner shot one intruder when they entered his home. This happened at 10 at night. The homeowner isn’t being charged. The intruder was taken to the hopital. All three attackers are in jail. They are charged with aggravated battery and vandalism. Link

DGU 2- Attacked by co-worker in Louisiana. Link

2A news-

Ed Monk had been touring the United States. Ed usually talks at churches and schools, and sometimes at police departments. He talks about mass murderers and how to stop them. After a decade of study, he put some of his notes into a book. The book was published a few weeks ago and is called “First 30 Seconds.” He brings up many good points. Here is one of many that stuck with me.

Say a murderer comes to your church or school. The attacker starts shooting. When do we want the killing to stop? Said another way, how many casualties are we planning to have? If we think about it for even a minute, we see that time and body count are related. Then something amazing happens.

Everyone says zero. We want zero people injured. Then they refuse to plan for zero. We could make it so zero people were injured. The church looks and feels like a prison, but they absolutely refuse to do that.

I am really interested in why people say one thing and do another. Why are we compelled to lie to ourselves about defending children? Intelligent people say really foolish things. It isn’t that I’m smarter than they are. I want to learn how we are fooling ourselves so that I avoid doing it myself.

Some administrators say this is a school and not a prison. That lets them ignore the problem of violence or pretend that it won’t happen to them. Author Ed Monk makes a great point; it stops being a school once a murderer starts shooting. It becomes a combat zone. Teachers stopped teaching when children started getting murdered. The horrible truth is that it might never be a school again once the murderer is done shooting. We might tear the building down rather than send children there again. I’m sorry, but that is what the truth looks like.

I saw video of a teacher after a mass murder. The teacher said, ‘Violence isn’t the answer.’ Violence was precisely the answer to get the murder what he wanted. We don’t call 911 to order a serving of lemonade. We called the cops to stop a murderer with overwhelming violence. That leads me to a few questions. Why are we reluctant to face evil?

  • Do we condone mass murder if we plan to stop it?
  • Are we more moral or virtuous if we fail to plan for horrible situations?
  • Are we virtuous if we plan for fire or earthquakes? I think we are.
  • Going to a doctor doesn’t mean we condone  illness or childhood cancer.
  • Going to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting doesn’t mean we condone addiction.
  • Locking our doors doesn’t mean we condone burglary or robbery.
  • We don’t condone criminal violence if we carry concealed and plan to defend our loved ones.

I think we are getting close to the real issue. Oddly enough, the issue isn’t about honest individuals using violence. I think the real issue is one of being hated. It is hard to come to grips with malevolence, with people who want to hurt you for no reason.

It is hard to face human beings who look like us and who have no compassion for other people.

All that is true, but some people think they are more moral if they refuse to plan for ugly situations, if they ignore violence and malevolence. Some school administrators say they shouldn’t have to stop mass murderers, that it isn’t their job. Murderers shouldn’t exist or the murderer shouldn’t come to their school.

I’m sorry, but saying you shouldn’t have to defend the students in your school is the moral failure worthy of a 7-year-old. It is intolerable for a responsible adult. The truth is that the world isn’t the way we want it to be. Adults plan to meet the failures of the world. That is the definition of being an adult. We have some very large children walking around with us.

People become educators because they want the world to be better. Sometimes that doesn’t work. Some problems are not solved by sympathy. We shouldn’t have morally handicapped people teaching our children. We shouldn’t have morally handicapped people elected to office either.

Please give Ed Monk a read. The title is First 30 Seconds.

If you want, we can talk about why the police can’t defend our schools, or we can move on to the news. SRO vs Cop vs SWAT vs Delta Force. It will take Dela Force a few days to arrive. We just said that Delta Force is better than the police. Does anyone think waiting a week is a solution? That is what some school administrators tell us. It isn’t their fault if their children get killed, but they are afraid they will be blamed if one of their staff does something wrong. It is better to do nothing and let children die than to risk being wrong. That is the moral problem of cowards in our schools.

A St. Louis judge took down a local law that required drivers to store firearms in lockboxes or other secured containers while leaving them unattended in vehicles. The July 15 ruling states that a 2017 ordinance conflicts with a Missouri law that takes away local governments’ ability to regulate firearms. Circuit Judge Joseph P. Whyte ruled that since the measure conflicts with state gun laws, it violates the Missouri Constitution’s preemption clause, which prohibits local governments from enacting gun regulations that go beyond state law. Link

The South Dakota University Board of Regents voted 9-0 on Thursday to comply with a new state law that allows students and others to carry concealed weapons on campus.

  • People 18 and over with an enhanced, restricted enhanced or a reciprocal permit can now carry concealed pistols on premises.
  • Individuals may also carry stun guns and mace or pepper spray on property.
  • Weapons must be stored in a locked case or safe when not being carried or in possession of the person. The universities and trade schools will not provide the lock boxes. Link

A Pennsylvania woman and two gun-rights groups have sued the U.S. Postal Service and other federal agencies, arguing that a nearly century-old law preventing people from mailing handguns violates the Second Amendment. The lawsuit, filed Monday in U.S. District Court in Pittsburgh, claims the federal law, dating to 1927, is a remnant from the Prohibition era that no longer aligns with current understandings of gun rights. Plaintiff Bonita Shreve lives in Blair County, Pennsylvania. She wants to mail a handgun to her father in eastern Pennsylvania as a gift. She said that because private shipping companies like UPS and FedEx do not allow individuals to ship handguns, the U.S. Postal Service is her only option. Note that US government agencies can mail guns to each other, but you can’t. Link

Last year, the ATF appealed a case covering pistol braces. These braces effectively convert a long gun into a handgun since there is not a stock that rests against the shoulder. Last week, the ATF dropped its appeal of the case in the US fifth circuit. It isn’t clear what that means for the rest of the US. For now, it is better to live in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi. Link

Nicole Mitchell was convicted of felony burglary. The trial took place more than a year after she was arrested breaking into her stepmother’s home. The trial was delayed so the suspect could serve in the Minnesota State Senate.
Democrat Senator Mitchell faced pressure to resign. She remained in office since the senate has a one vote democrat majority. The democrat senator said she will resign after her conviction for felony burglary and possession of burglary tools. The sentence ranges from 8-month to 20 years. Link

“First 30 Seconds” by Ed Monk

July 20, 2025

Ed Monk has been touring the United States. Ed usually talks at churches and schools, and sometimes at police departments. He talks about mass murderers and how to stop them. After a decade of study, Ed put some of his thoughts into a book. The book was published a few weeks ago and is called “First 30 Seconds.” He brings up many good points. Say a murderer comes to your church or to your child’s school. The attacker starts shooting. When do we want the killing to stop? Said another way, how many casualties are we planning to have? If we think about it for even a minute, we see that time and body-count are related. Then something amazing happens.

Everyone says zero. We want zero people injured. Then they refuse to plan for zero. We could make it so zero people were injured. We have that ability. We’ve turned the church into a prison, but we can stop mass murder. Why did we say one thing and do another?

Let’s say we are more realistic in our answer. Let us say we should stop the murderer after a handful of people are wounded. Many people say they want that and then refuse to plan for it.

I am really interested in why people hold contradictory thoughts at the same time. My motive is selfish. It isn’t that I’m smarter than they are. I want to learn how we are fooling ourselves so that I avoid doing it. My interest is born out of weakness. Why are we compelled to lie to ourselves about defending children? After you listen for a while, you hear really intelligent people say really foolish things.

Some school administrators say they run a school and not a prison. That lets them ignore the problem of violence. They can pretend that violence won’t happen to them. Author Ed Monk makes a great point; it stops being a school once a murderer starts shooting. It becomes a combat zone. Teachers stopped teaching when children started getting murdered. The horrible truth is that it might never be a school again. We might tear the building down rather than send children there. I’m sorry, but that is what we’ve seen.

I’ve seen interviews where people say that, ‘Violence isn’t the answer.’ I saw a video where the teacher was prepared to tell the murderer that she loved him so he would stop killing people. I think she is lucky to be alive. Violence was precisely the answer that the murder chose to get what he wanted. We don’t call 911 to order a serving of lemonade. We called the cops to stop a murderer with overwhelming violence. That leads me to a few questions. Why are we reluctant to use violence to stop evil?

  • Are we somehow more virtuous if we fail to plan for horrible situations?
  • Do we condone mass murder if we plan to stop it?
  • Are we less virtuous if we plan for fire or earthquakes?
  • Going to a doctor doesn’t mean we condone illness or childhood cancer.
  • Going to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting doesn’t mean we condone addiction.
  • Locking our doors doesn’t mean we condone burglary or robbery.
  • We don’t condone criminal violence if we plan to defend our loved ones.

Reading through that list, I think we are getting closer to the real issue. Oddly enough, the issue isn’t about honest individuals using violence. I think the real issue is one of being hated. It is hard to come to grips with malevolence, with people who want to hurt us for no reason.

It is hard to face human beings who look like us and who have no compassion for others.
Malevolence makes us feel vulnerable.

All that is true, but some people think they are more moral if they refuse to plan for ugly situations, if they ignore violence and malevolence. Some school administrators say they shouldn’t have to stop mass murderers, that it isn’t their job. Do they mean that murderers shouldn’t exist or the murderer shouldn’t come to their school? It has taken me years to understand the problem.

People become educators because they want the world to be better.
Some problems are not solved with more sympathy.

You might have a PhD, but saying you shouldn’t have to defend the students in your school is the moral failure of a 7-year-old. It is an intolerable answer from a responsible adult. The truth is that the world isn’t the way we want it to be. Adults plan to meet the failures of the world. That is the definition of being an adult.
We obviously have some very large children walking around with us. We shouldn’t have morally handicapped people teaching our children. We shouldn’t have morally handicapped people elected to public office either.

Second Amendment and Self-Defense News on Sunday, 13 July 2025

July 13, 2025
Image

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. We only talked about some of it. Here is the audio of our conversation as well as the links to my news sources.

Episode audio from Spotify is here.

Defensive Gun Use-

First DGU Story- Home Defense in California A family defended themselves in Simi Valley California. The married couple and two children were at home. They heard someone break into their home at about 1 in the morning. The wife called 911. The husband grabbed his gun and defended the family. He saw a man with a knife. The man with the knife advanced and was shot several times by the armed husband. Neighbors called 911 and reported shots fired. So did the wife. The intruder was taken to the hospital where he was declared dead.

This was a homicide. It was also a justified homicide. The husband used lethal force to stop an immediate, unavoidable, and lethal threat to himself and to other innocent parties. The attacker was an ex-boyfriend of the wife. She had a restraining order against him. The police had been called several times for allegations that the ex-boyfriend broke the restraining order. They did not arrest him and take him to jail so things escalated and the ex-boyfriend died. Link

Last week we talked about a self-defense situation where a neighbor was being attacked in Chicago. I said that the defender did not need to say a word before he used lethal force. This example from California is a case where you probably want to shout for the attacker to stop. Sometimes you do and sometimes you don’t. The same action can be completely right or completely wrong depending on the context. That is why it is so important for you to walk through a defensive situation in your own home. You really need that practice so you do the right thing at 1am when you’re half asleep and desperate to save your family.

Let’s say your come out of your bedroom and see the attacker in the kitchen. You turn on the hall light and shout for him to leave. You shout again as he comes closer. You shoot him as he enters the hallway. You take a step back and shoot again. All of your actions will leave evidence. You gave a warning. Your neighbors heard it. The 911 tapes heard it. You shot once as the attacker advanced toward you. You continued to retreat and defend yourself until you physically stopped the attacker. All that is evidence that you did not initiate the contact or the attack.

Now let’s turn that on its head. You see someone in the hallway moving toward your children’s room. Should you shoot? Is it a neighbor who is shouting that your fence is on fire and you need to get out of the house and to a safe location? Is it a crazy-ex who wants to hurt the kids? I don’t know. We can’t know. It depends on your situation. These are the sorts of situations you want to write into your imagination so you recognize what is happening at 1 in the morning.

Second DGU Story- Two terrorists attacked one of the most defended supermarkets in the world. The two attackers were palestinian police officers. They were trained in Qatar. They stole a car. They attacked a uniformed security guard who was stationed in front of a supermarket in Israel’s west bank. The attackers took the guard’s gun and then entered the market. The attackers were then shot and killed by an armed civilian and an off duty member of the Israel Defense Forces. Neither of the defenders were part of a store security team according to early reports. The number of armed civilians in Israel has increased after the October 7th attacks.

I’ve been to Qatar and to Egypt. Security guards are common. Israel is one of the few countries in the region who has armed civilians. (I think the only country in the area.) There are strong arguments between Israelis about going armed. Some are for it and some against. Violence only provides comfort once you understand how comfortable your attacker is with violence.

2A news-

President Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill had some benefits for gun owners. Most of us have heard about removing the taxes on mufflers and long guns. You might have missed the investment in new ammunition plants. There was a 100-million dollar investment in existing plants. There was an additional investment that was ten times larger for automated ammunition plants. That means the prices at your gun shop should come down, and the next time we send ammunition to Ukraine the prices at the gun shop won’t go up as much. Link

North Carolina Governor Josh Stein vetoed a bill that would have allowed authorized school staff to defend private schools. We knew that democrats hated school choice, but we thought they were pro-choice about our personal decisions. That doesn’t include how we protect our children in a private school.

I’ve helped build a private school. The administration makes thousands of choices. How they secure the campus and defend the students and staff should be left to the school administrators. Josh Stein knows better than they do because he took money from anti-gun Democrat billionaire Michael Bloomberg.

Show me a pro-gun democrat. On the left coast, California Governor Gavin Newsome says that he is pro gun, but he lies also.

In the North Carolina bill, the school defender would have required a concealed handgun permit and to complete a training class. Republican proponents of the bill said it would keep private schools safe in rural areas with long response times from police. Democrat Stein said school employees and volunteers “cannot substitute” for law enforcement officers who receive hundreds of hours of safety education.

I have those hundreds of hours of training. I have been to five training classes where they teach school staff to defend students and start trauma care. Stein would rather have dead students than live ones. Dead students help him pass more gun control, and that is what his owners want.

Ask yourself this question. How many students have died because the staff was undertrained? I can’t find one of them. Now ask yourself the question of how many students died because there were not enough defenders to stop an attacker? That number is about 20 students a year. That means we need more defenders even if they have less training. I’m not smart enough to fit that argument into a soundbite, so more children will die because democrat politicians left our kids undefended.

As an aside, I learned something interesting about armed school staff. They know their school the way you know your home. They know where to hide and where to defend. The usually beat the police officers who act as mock attackers in force-on-force training. The home team has a real advantage. Link

Last weekend, 7 people were shot in Chicago. 6 people were shot in New York City last weekend. Both cities are proud of their failing gun-control laws. It is so sad.

A three judge panel of the 9th circuit court of appeals made a good decision about guns. The 9th circuit gets so much wrong that this qualifies as news. California passed a law saying it was illegal to market guns to minors. I learned to shoot when I was in boy scouts. We learn to shoot in 4H and in other groups. We used to have shooting teams at schools. If your child shoots, it was illegal for them to have a subscription to a youth shooting magazine that talked about their sport. A case in point, Junior Sports Magazines Incorporated stopped mailing and e-mailing to customers in California.

The three judge panel said the California law is likely unconstitutional under the First Amendment, and Quote, “..we thus REVERSE the district court’s denial of a preliminary injunction and REMAND for further proceedings consistent with this opinion.” Close Quote.

Now things get interesting. Are there laws from the 1970s that restrict the right of honest citizens involved in legal activity to learn about firearms? Did those laws control adults and minors? That is what the California Attorney General now has to demonstrate. It will take an extremely biased set of judges to rule in their favor. Governor Gavin Newsome said the gun industry can now advertise weapons of war to children. Sorry, Governor, but you confused the firearms industry with Hollywood. Link

We are learning more about the attack at a church in Wayne, Michigan. It was like other church attacks in that there was a defensive team in place. The team converged on the attacker from several directions. When the attacker was stopped, it was within a few seconds as to which defender would stop him. We’ve seen defenses like this before at the New Life Church in Colorado Springs. At that defense in 2007, there were at least three armed guards who were less than a minute apart from reaching the attacker. Painting with a very wide brush, I’d say that churches have done a better job than schools in adopting armed defense.

There was a biased report that said more criminals are getting guns by breaking into our cars. What the report should have said, is that gun-free zones don’t provide a place to safely store firearms. I’d like to see a law that says your gun-free zone has the force of law only if you provide safe storage. Apply this to government buildings too!

Thank you for reading me. Please take care of you and yours. RM

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. We only talked about some of it. Here is the audio of our conversation as well as the links to my news sources.

Defensive Gun Use-

First story- A Florida homeowner stood his ground, shooting and injuring the suspect in a home invasion. A stranger tried to break into the home just before 5am. The home owner told the intruder to go away. He declared that he was armed. The intruder broke the window in the door. The homeowner shot him and called police. The police found the intruder lying on the ground with a gunshot wound. The homeowner was not charged with a crime. He was defending his wife and child at the time.

Note that laws are not the same state to state. Some have stand your ground laws. Some have castle doctrine. Some have a duty to retreat. Link

Second story- A concealed carry license holder intervened in a violent robbery in the West Loop of Chicago. This happened Tuesday morning around 8:50 a.m. A 38-year-old woman was outside when two men, both armed with guns, approached her, demanded her belongings, and pistol-whipped her before taking her possessions. A 41-year-old man who is licensed to carry concealed firearms witnessed the robbery and confronted the robbers. The robbers pointed their guns at the man. This man was carying cocealed. He presented his weapon and defended himself. The robbers shot too, but no one was wounded by gunfire. The attackers ran to a black Lexus sedan bearing stolen New Jersey license plates. The victim declined medical assistance. No other injuries were reported. The Chicago police department did not release a description of the robbers. Link

2A news-

The purpose of studying the right to bear arms isn’t to have simple answers.
It is to recognize the lies told by anti-rights politicians and paid gun-control advocates.

Democrats in the US House and Senate put forth sweeping gun control bills called the GOSAFE act. They would outlaw modern rifles. Same lies. Same liars. Different day.

Donald Trump signed his signature bill. It eliminated the tax on a number of NFA items. That provision takes effect next calendar year. Gun rights groups have already started work to remove silencers and short barreled rifles from the NFA entirely.

I know the results, but I don’t know the reason. Baltimore police report a considerable drop in gun violence [!] and other violent crimes at the halfway point through the year. They showed a 22% decrease in homicides. The number of juvenile homicide victims is down 71%. Nonfatal shootings were also down by 19%. The homicide clearance rate is up. Rape is down by 35%, carjackings are down 15% and assaults are down by 11%.

Police said officers have also seized more than 1,300 guns and 150 ghost guns, averaging seven seizures a day. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley credited the Group Violence Reduction Strategy. Quote. “We go out and we give them a letter and basically say, ‘Listen, we know you were doing the shooting in this area. We want you to put the guns down, or we’re going to do an investigation and not only take you off the street, but your entire drug trafficking organization. But here are all the services that we’re going to offer you. Note that the police commissioner didn’t mention gun control? I also wonder if deporting immigrant drug gangs has reduced crime in Baltimore.

Crime even dropped in Chicago after they started deporting the drug gangs.

There was a firearms case on appeal in the fifth circuit court of appeals. The case covered the ban on handgun sales to people under 21 years of age. The three judges unanimously said that treating handguns differently from other arms was unconstitutional. The US department of justice did not appeal the case. Groups like the second amendment foundation are now working on an injunction to change state laws in Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi. The case will certainly impact other cases dealing with 18-to 20-year-olds who wish to purchase firearms.

I live in Louisiana, and you need to be 21 to get a carry permit, but you can buy a gun at 18, and you can carry under constitutional carry at 18. Silly politicians.

A federal judge said that California has to allow non-residents to apply for carry permits. An appeals judge agreed with that original ruling. What makes that news is that the appeals judge was an Obama appointee. Evidently the State of California could not come up with historical examples that barred non-residents from receiving permits. Then again, the 9th circuit court of appeals has never met a gun control law it didn’t like.

Starting Today in Wyoming, honest citizens can legally carry concealed firearms into most state government buildings. The new law allows both the public and state employees to concealed carry in government buildings such as the Capitol in Cheyenne. Exceptions remain for courtrooms, law enforcement offices, jails, prisons, and certain health and family services facilities. State employees must keep their firearms on their person or locked up securely when not in use. No permit is required for concealed carry in Wyoming, though a valid state ID and compliance with Constitutional Carry requirements apply… The University of Wyoming also updated its policy to comply. Concealed firearms are now allowed inside most campus buildings, though banned from labs with explosive materials, healthcare areas, daycare centers, and venues serving alcohol. Open carry remains prohibited indoors. University President Ed Seidel said there’s no evidence from other campuses that allowing lawful concealed carry increases violence. “Dozens of universities nationwide permit concealed firearms without issue,” he stated. While the law permits concealed carry in K-12 schools, it leaves one gatekeeper in place: school boards must adopt specific rules to allow employees to carry. Note that you may need your state carry permit to carry your firearm within 1000 feet of a school.

I believe that campus carry also became legal in South Dakota.

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. We got to about half of it. Here is the audio of our conversation as well as the links to my news sources.

Defensive gun use in a church in Michigan

A crazy man attacked a church in Wayne, Michigan. Services were in session. One of the church deacons was driving his truck. He was still in the church parking lot when he saw the armed man carrying a rifle. That drew the deacon’s attention. The gunman shot at the church. The deacon hit the attacker with his truck. As the deacon was approaching the attacker, some reports say the attacker shot at the truck. The deacon then fled. A security guard inside the church saw people running from the front of the church. He moved against the flow of the crowd. He got to the outside doors and stayed inside. Someone ran inside the church through those doors and said there was a man with a gun outside. Now the guard heard gunshots. He opened the doors and looked. He closed the doors and heard more shots. The guard had his pistol in his hands at this point. He again opened the door and this time he shot the attacker. The attacker dropped his rifle. The guard advanced and took the attacker’s firearm. He then retreated. A second guard was wounded in the leg.

The wounded guard was taken to the hospital with a shattered tibia. (You and I call it a shinbone when we bump into a chair at night.) He was operated on and is now back home. His leg is screwed together and it will be a year until he has all the metal out of his leg again.

The attacker attended church two or three times in the last year. His mother was a regular member. The attacker heard voices and god was telling him the real truth. He was angry that the minister wouldn’t take his word as gospel. I am not a doctor, but that sounds like auditory hallucinations of untreated schizophrenia.

The church started their safety team ten years ago. They went to a training class three days before the attack.

Google list of articles.

Guard’s interview.

Deacon (team-lead who was shot in the leg) interview.

School Security- This news story is close to my heart. State lawmakers in North Carolina passed a bill to allow private schools to authorize teachers or school volunteers to carry concealed handguns on campus. They would be allowed to carry firearms or stun guns on school grounds if they receive written permission from the school’s board of trustees or administrative director, have a concealed handgun permit, and complete an approved training course. Link

I posted an article on school safety last week. Link

Deacons and ushers take care of injured and confused people almost every week in church. They get familiar with EMS. Why not take a stop-the-bleed class too? Stop-the-bleed is available online.

2A news-

It is time to write and call your senators and your congress critter. The senate parliamentarian stripped the pro-gun sections from Trump’s Big Beautiful Bill. Tell your senators you expect them to fix this. If the parliamentarian has to change, then you expect that to happen. If senate majority leader John Thune has to change, then make that happen too. I think the Senate passed the BBB without the changes to the ATF’s prohibited items list. That means we want silencers and short barreled rifles reintroduced in the conference committee. Link

The State Attorney General of Missouri sounds like a good guy. AG Andrew Bailey issued civil investigative demands to Google, YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram. Bailey asked about the company business practices over speech and commerce related to firearms and ammunition on its platforms. To paraphrase, ‘If tech giants are colluding to silence lawful expression about firearms or shut down commerce protected under the Second Amendment, then citizens of Missouri deserve to know.’ Are the social media giants going to admit their censorship or lie to the state AG? They want it both ways. They want to edit and to also claim they are not responsible for what is posted on their web sights. Which is it? Link

We were told that mass murders only happen in the USA. The paid gun control groups said it was because guns are too easy to get in the USA. The leftists I know say it is because we have too many poor people. Another narcissist killed 10 students in a high school in Austria. He said he was bullied, killed ten people, and then killed himself. Unlike the US, the Austrians can’t have armed staff to stop murderers at their school. Link If your school thinks that a safety plan requires a call to 911, then you can expect 30 to 40 casualties. I would say that calling 911 was admitting your don’t have a safety plan.

Donald Trump Jr. and his business partners announced an online firearm store that some have dubbed the ‘Amazon of guns’ called GrabAGun. They want to make firearms more accessible. ‘There’s a lot of people that are buying guns that wouldn’t have been the typical guys that were buying guns like I’ve been doing for decades,’ Trump Jr. said on CNBC Tuesday morning. ‘There’s women coming into the marketplace for self defense. There’s a younger generation that’s shifting to the conservative side that understands the need to exercise their Second Amendment, and wants to do that. This is giving them an opportunity with “grab a gun” to shop the way they shop virtually everything else, Guns purchased from the online store still have to be picked up from an authorized and licensed retailer. Routine background checks and all lawful safety precautions are still followed.

The real value is restoring access to firearms that have been put out of reach for customers. ‘Walmart used to be the largest retailer of firearms in America. Corporate policies change, you can no longer have that access. You couldn’t go to your local Walmart and buy these things anymore. So this is covering that void.

Grab a gun has been in existence for several years. It simply has new investors. Link

The state of Rhode Island passed a ban on buying and selling modern rifles. Democrat politicians passed that bill. Elections have consequences.

A crazy man attacked state politicians in Minnesota. Everyone involved is a Democrat. The attacker’s manifesto justified the murders so that Governor Walz could become the state Senator from Minnisota. Now, Minnesota Democrats want to use the attack to disarm the honest people who didn’t do it. A Republican congressman from Illinois had a different perspective. The attack in Minnesota was 8 years to the day after the attack on Republican Congressmen in Arlington, Virginia. Those congressmen and women were also attacked by a Democrat. Congressman Rodney Davis was at home plate when the gunman opened fire from behind third base. Congressman Davis now goes armed. The crazy man murdered politicians because he thought Governor Walz should be the US Senator from Minnesota. Link

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has swung its sights onto the ATF. DOGE sent staffers to the agency to modify or eliminate dozens of rules and restrictions by July 4. The initial goal was to change 47 regulations — a reference to Donald Trump as the 47th president — but ATF and DOGE employees have set their sights higher and are now planning to make 50 changes. ATF staff were upset and leaked anonymous complaints to the Washington Post. Robert Leider, the Trump-backed ATF general counsel, is supervising the overhaul at the agency. One proposal is to cut the form 4473 in half. One regulation to eliminate is the ban on imported marking ammunition. Law enforecemtn and training companies use the marking rounds in force-on-force training. I guess they are afraid that civilians would get more training. Link

As a side note, I read where a student died when they were shot by an “empty inert gun” during a training class. The trainer had two glock handguns. He emptied one of them. He grabbed the wrong gun and shot and killed his step son. You are responsible during training. Ask someone to check what you’re doing. I don’t point real guns at my students. I may point a plastic firearm near them. Paul Markel wrote about the incident. Link

The Debate on School Safety: Armed Staff vs. Gun-Free Zones

June 24, 2025
Image

What should we do to protect our schools? We hear a flurry of sound bites from both sides of this debate. Each side focuses on the narrow point that makes their case in the fewest words. There are good arguments that say fewer good people get shot once a good guy or gal is shooting at the murderer. Another point of view says that it is better if the murderer never comes to your school or college in the first place. Unfortunately, that argument takes some serious twists and turns. Both arguments are right as they offer answers to different questions. What we should do depends entirely on who we want to help. Do we want to make students safer or do we want to feel better and turn away from the uncomfortable problem?

What they say isn’t what they do.
The debate about mass public violence doesn’t take place in a vacuum. Our elites solved this problem on their own. Celebrities have personal security for many reasons. Some people might hate what the celebrity said. Some might hate that the businessman is wealthy. Some people want to hurt a famous person simply to become notorious. For those reasons and more, rich people are targets. Our political elites and rich families live in walled compounds. They have chauffeurs and private jets. They have armed security for themselves and their family. The elites may say that ordinary people shouldn’t have guns, but what they do is something different. They go armed or buy their own protection.

What works for the rest of us?
What works for celebrities doesn’t work for most of us. We travel to our jobs. We go shopping for what we need. We drive our own cars or take public transportation. We worry about getting our kids to school every day and to church every week. Most of us send our children to public school or educate them at home. All of that changed in the last few decades.

We live in a new world.
We can talk to friends around the world. We also can feel left out and ignored by not only our friends, but by the entire world. We’ve seen people commit suicide to become a posthumous celebrity. We’ve seen murderers kill innocent children so that the murderer could get their name in the news. That desire for notoriety mushroomed with 24-7 news and with social media. Yes, the world has changed.

We’ve had firearms for four centuries. We’ve had mass media for about four decades. We are living in the middle of an unstable social experiment. Right now, we don’t know how to live with violent narcissists.

It is hard to protect everyone.
School officials did what any responsible adult would do. They asked the police to protect our kids from violent murderers. That is both more complex and harder than it sounds. Students are at school early and they stay late. They are vulnerable as they ride the bus and when they play after-school sports. Many schools are so large that it would take many officers to protect them.

School boards and school principals called the sheriff and police chief. Those officers told the truth and said they didn’t have the manpower to do the job. There is about one sworn law enforcement officer for every four-hundred people in the US. That isn’t enough to protect our schools even if the police stopped doing everything else they do. Fortunately, both sides wanted to protect our kids.

What does a first solution look like?
The good news is that mass-murder at schools is rare. That means that most schools will never face an attack. That is the good news.

Law enforcement officials put together a few simple facts, and some of those facts are very bad news. Murderers will kill dozens of victims before the police arrive at the scene. That means the solution has to be inside the school before the shooting starts. Defenders must be physically close to the victims and the attacker.

Law enforcement officers also noticed that about one-out-of-a-dozen adults are armed in public today. In most states, school boards can allow armed staff on campus. We conducted that experiment. We already have about 7-million days where a trained and qualified school staff member provided armed defense. So far, they never had to fire a shot at school.

Can we do better that that?
We’ve learned a lot about the people who attack our schools. These murderers enjoy planning their attacks. They spend years thinking about killing innocent people. I know that sounds sick, but it is extremely important. Mass murderers are not afraid to die, but they are deeply afraid of failing. They want to avoid a gun-fight where they might lose. These dedicated murderers deliberately look for gun-free zones so their victims will be unarmed. Unfortunately, we have been telling these murderers exactly where to go.

Politics are hard.
Many school districts put up signs that declared their schools to be “gun-free” zones. That made some administrators and politicians feel better. It certainly made mass murderers feel better. We advertised for mass-murderers and told them exactly where to find the victims they wanted. We should stop doing that now that we’ve studied the murderers.

Could a solution be that easy?
We have never seen a mass-murderer attack a school that had a public policy of allowing armed staff. The murderer chose to go someplace else or do something else. Life isn’t that easy. I’ve talked with school principals who have armed staff in their schools but who don’t have the political support to go public.

Let’s take what we can get.
We don’t have proof, but what we know makes sense. We know that mass murderers could kill several dozen victims before the police arrive. We think that trained and armed school staff will radically reduce the number of victims at school. That is what we learned from simulations and from force-on-force drills. That is what we learned from attempted mass murder outside of school. We think that taking down the “gun-free zone” sign will also make the attack less likely. So far, we think that putting up a different sign will prevent the attack in the first place.

Image

So plastic signs make a difference?
The murderer gets a vote. He chooses where he will attack. We have thousands of schools that have never been attacked. Most of them did nothing at all. Some of them advertised that they were defended by armed staff. Some plastic signs seem to keep away the murderers. Armed school staff will at least reduce the number of victims if the murderer ignores the sign.

Conclusion-
The answer you get depends on the question you ask.

  • Politicians tell us that gun-control stops murderers. The facts don’t bear that out. Murderers get to choose when, where, and how they attack.
  • Armed defenders stop a mass-murder about once a month. They do that in public where ordinary citizens are allowed to go armed.
  • A mass-murderer has never attacked a school with a public policy of armed staff. That could be luck, but it is probably a choice by the murderer.

It is hard to look at public violence and not be emotionally touched. Evil is real and can be devastating. We can choose an uplifting story for our students and for the rest of society. I admire dedicated defenders. They admit that evil exists and they love our children enough to defend them.

We tell the world what we think right there on the signpost.

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment news for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. Here is the audio of our conversation as well as the links to my news sources.

Episode audio from Spotify is here.

Defensive Gun Use

DGU1- A suspect is dead and a police officer was injured following an officer-involved shooting in Muskegon Heights, Michigan. The incident spanned three different scenes. The criminal got in a fight and then shot a responding officer. The criminal ran. He shot at passing cars, and then tried to break into a home. The homeowner shot him. The homeowner called 911. Police found the attacker nearby.

The suspect was armed and refused commands to drop his weapon. When the suspect pointed his weapon at an officer, two officers fired their weapons, hitting the criminal. He was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The criminal was wanted on two counts of assault and a weapons charge as a habitual offender. (Link)

DGU2- Memphis, Tennessee. A man was shot while protecting children from gunfire in Frayser Tennessee. The defender said his brother, and several children were outside of a home when two children, around the ages of 13 or 14, began shooting at them. That man said his brother ran to grab one of the children and protect them when he was shot in the back of the neck. The brother suffered critical injuries. The man said he returned fire and shot back at the teenage gunmen. Officers cited the defenders for discharging a firearm within city limits. Link

DGU3- It sounds like a tow truck driver had to defend himself in Cleveland, Ohio. He was in a city impound lot at 5am. He sees a stranger walking around the lot. The stranger pulls a gun. The tow truck driver shoots his attacker and calls police. The attacker ran away. The police find him nearby. The attacker was breaking into cars. The defender was not charged. Link

DGU4- It is late Tuesday night in Chicago. You are cleaning out your car. A guy stops his car next to you. The driver gets out and shows that he is armed. He tells you to hand everything over. You are a legal gun owner. You have your carry permit. Your firearm is registered. You are carrying concealed tonight. You present your firearm and shoot your attacker. He is struck several times in the chest and head. He falls down. You call 911.

Your attacker has been busy. He is driving a car he stole at gunpoint an hour ago. He robbed two women at gunpoint a few minutes ago. EMTs take him to the hospital where he dies. Link

2A news-

The US Center for Disease Control lists cause of death on its website. They admit that different groups have different risks. But.. you knew there was a but.. there’s more to this story that is misleading. Remember that Biden and Harris said guns are the No. 1 killer of teens, but are guns a threat to your kids? Probably not. The CDC database reveals that:

  • Guns are not the number one killer of female teens.
  • Guns are not the number one killer of white teens.
  • Guns are not the number one killer of Hispanic teens.
  • Guns are not the number one killer of Asian teens.
  • Guns are not the number one killer of Native American teens.
  • The only group for whom this claim is true is Black teens, which is statistically troubling in itself.

I would add that guns kill black teens in failed Democrat cities. They save lives everywhere else. Is it a gun problem or a problem with failed cities? Link

5th circuit asks for a do-over. The old ruling on suppressors is gone. I don’t know what that means. Link

A three judge panel of the 9th federal circuit court of appeals made a unanimous decision. They said one of California’s gun control laws was unconstitutional. “California suggests that the Second Amendment only guarantees a right to possess a single firearm, and that plaintiffs’ rights have not been infringed because they already possess at least one firearm. California is wrong. The Second Amendment protects the right of the people to ‘keep and bear arms,’ plural.” California’s one gun a month law is unconstitutional because it infringes on the right to bear arms. Despite what some judges have said, the right to bear includes the right to purchase. Link

In a major reversal for gun rights advocates, the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that the federal ban on handgun sales by licensed dealers to adults under 21 is constitutional, effectively shutting down a key legal challenge backed by the Second Amendment Foundation.

The case, Fraser v. ATF, involved four young men between the ages of 18 and 20 who argued that their Second Amendment rights were violated when they were blocked from purchasing handguns from licensed gun shops. In 2023, Federal District Judge Robert Payne previously agreed, issuing a sweeping decision that said the ban went too far, especially after the Supreme Court’s Bruen decision made history and tradition the new test for gun laws. Link

A town in New Jersey refunded their portion of the concealed carry permit fee. $150, with the remaining $50 going to the state. Thank you, Englishtown, NJ. Link

Argentina again allows civilians to own semi-automatic firearms. Bolt action rifles were not restricted. Link

The Democrat Governor of North Carolina again vetoed constitutional carry. I guess Governor Stein is an honest politician. Once Bloomberg paid him, he stayed bought. Link

2A news-

In the good news column, someone noticed that US Supreme court judge Elana Kagen admitted that ARs are commonly owned firearms. That came out as a footnote in the bumpstock case.

More news from the Trump Department of Justice, they said that sheriffs and police chiefs in Pennsylvania must issue carry permits to out of state residents. Quote, “This practice is unlawful under Pennsylvania law,” Bondi wrote last month. “It also raises serious concerns under the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to bear arms in public, as well as the Privileges and Immunities Clause, which prohibits discriminating against out-of-state citizens. (The alternative would be to recognize reciprocal rights of out of state permits. ) A few days later, the Pennsylvania Attorney General and the Virginia Attorney General agreed to recognize concealed carry permits from the other state. As a warning to new gun owners, the gun free zone exception often requires a permit from the state where the school is located. The law is stupid, but there it is.

Now that the DOJ has contacted Pennsylvania, how about suing California and New York?

Would you settle for an Amicus Brief in Illinois? The Trump administration declared Illinois’ bans on commonly owned semi-automatic firearms and ammunition magazines that can hold more than ten rounds violates the protections of the Second Amendment.

The North Carolina legislature put a bill on the governor’s desk again. It is the permitless carry bill. It also allows 18, 19, and 20 year old citizens to carry. The democrat governor is expected to veto the bill. (Link)

Washington State looks a lot like California and New Jersey to gun owners. They recently passed a law that requires a state permit to purchase a firearm. That permit it is in addition to, rather than instead of, the regular background check. Criminals don’t apply for permits and honest citizens don’t use their guns to commit crimes. For perspective, about 80 percent of violent crimes do NOT involve the criminal using a gun.

Sixteen Democrat controlled states have sued the Trump administration. The ATF said they made a mistake when they banned force reset triggers. Now, the ATF said they will return the citizens property. Democrats don’t like that..after they took money from Bloomberg.

Speaking of billionaire Bloomberg, the anti-gun groups are claiming that the hearing protection act would allow us to buy firearms mufflers at the hardware store. In truth, they still require a background check. I find it funny that liberals in the US say we should become like Europe..where firearms mufflers are a hardware store item.

California Democrats introduced a bill to ban Glock Firearms because they can be converted into machine pistols. Law enforcement is exempt.

If your school thinks that a safety plan requires a call to 911, then you can expect 30 to 40 casualties.

Routine background checks and all lawful safety precautions are still followed.

Corporate policies change, you can no longer have that access. You couldn’t go to your local Walmart and buy these things anymore. So this is covering that void.

Grab a gun has been in existence for several years. It simply has new investors. Grabagun

I noticed that a lot of billionaires and leftists in the US feel lost. They long for the 1960s when it was a big deal to have a black friend. Now, they have to support pedophiles and muslim murderers so they feel significant. Maybe they would feel important if they had a family.
Happy Father’s Day.

Stories of Defensive Gun Use-

DGU 1- A man had too much to drink in Peoria, Arizona. The bartender told him no more. The drinker should have taken a cab home. Instead, he went to his car and retrieved his firearm. He shot into the air. Then he shot into the building where the bar was located. He wounded a customer in the bar. Two men were sitting on a bench outside the bar and saw the attack. At least one witness became a defender. He drew his firearm and shot the attacker. The attacker died at the scene. Police collected statements from the many witnesses inside and outside the bar. The wounded victims were taken to the hospital and released. A police officer on the scene said this, “Thankfully, these two individuals were sitting on a park bench in front of the bar with an armed subject that was in the parking lot that could have done a lot more damage than what he did. We’re grateful that these two individuals stood up and took action and did what was right.” (Link)

Lots of states disarm the designated driver. Arizona is an exception. You may carry in a bar, but you may not drink alcohol.

DGU 2- This next story is out of Indianapolis, Indiana. An armed mom shot a child predator. The mom and 12-year-old daughter were at a family gathering at a hotel. Mom left the room for a minute and took something out to her car. She comes back and a man is lying on top of her daughter, holding her down, and trying to take off her clothes. The daughter is screaming for help. Mom says stop. Mom shoots the bad guy. Mom grabs her daughter and they run to their car and drive away. They call 911. The police go to the hotel and ask the mom to come back as well. They arrest the attacker.

The attacker was charged with attempted rape, attempted child molestation, unlawful possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, and confinement of a victim under 14 years old. He is listed on the County sex offender registry. Online records show he was registered as a “sexually violent predator” in 2019. (Link)

Don’t leave your daughter with strangers. When in doubt, your children with you. What do you do? How do you shoot this attacker when they are directly against your loved one?

DGU 3- Two men broke into a home in Houston. That was just before 1 in the morning. They fought with the occupants. One of the homeowners produced a gun and shot the attackers. Both men fled. One died in the front yard. The second attacker drove away. The occupants called 911 and asked for help.

The driver ran from the police. He is charged with burglary with intent to commit assault and evading arrest in a motor vehicle. There was an existing mugshot that the paper had on file. That tells me the driver was a repeat criminal. One of the attackers used to be involved with a woman who lived at the address. (Link)

One lesson to learn is to avoid boyfriends who have a criminal record. I wonder why they didn’t charge the driver with felony murder?

DGU 4- A suspect is dead and a police officer was injured following an officer-involved shooting in Muskegon Heights, Michigan.

He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The criminal was wanted on two counts of assault and a weapons charge as a habitual offender. (Link)

2A news-

The US Supreme court considers the second amendment to be a second class right. States are free to infringe on it. Democrats can ban ARs to their heart’s content. They can limit magazine capacity. So said the US supreme court. To quote judge Clarence Tomas, the second amendment is treated as a second class right by this court. I bet that 18, 19, and 20 year olds lose their right to bear arms too.  Justices Kavanaugh, Barrett, and Roberts refused to defend the second amendment.

Also, the US Supreme court made a unanimous ruling that Mexico can not sue US gun manufacturers for the crimes committed by Mexican gangs in Mexico. (Link)

Also in the good news column, someone noticed that US Supreme court judge Elana Kagen admitted that ARs are commonly owned firearms.

(The alternative would be to recognize reciprocal rights of out of state permits.)

If you’ve been asleep for several months, then you may have noticed that the Trump administration is not the Biden administration. A U.S. attorney under the Biden administration claimed suppressors were not protected by the Second Amendment. They said that mufflers on a firearm were accessories and not arms. A holdover assistant U.S. Attorney from the Biden administration made the same argument after Trump was inaugurated. The Trump Department of Justice caught their mistake and asked for time to reassess the case. The new brief in the case was submitted the last week of May. That delay made a huge difference. The DOJ now explicitly states that silencers are protected under the Second Amendment. The DOJ also made a weak argument that the Second Amendment allows silencers to be taxed and regulated. (Link)

We have some good news up from Tallahassee, Florida. Florida used to have an emergency powers act. Sheriffs and city officials could declare an emergency and ban the sale of firearms and ammunition. Gun stores were required to take down their signs, because even the signs were outlawed. That law was in place for 55 years, and it was finally repealed last week. When civil disorder fails, honest citizens need the right to bear arms.

Two questions for Bill-

We’ve seen Jews murdered in Israel. We saw them attacked at synagogues in California and Pennsylvania. We saw the governor’s mansion burned because the Pennsylvania governor was jewish. We’ve seen jews shot in gun-controlled Washington, DC. Have you heard any callers on your show talk about local Jews arming themselves?

We saw the organizations funded by the Soros family and by the state of California stage riots at US immigration facilities. It looks like state funded public violence to me. Do you think those images on the TV will lead more of us to buy guns? It might end the “Trump Slump.”

Bill said there is no “Trump slump” in gun sales at some of his local gun shops.

2A news-

Does gun control work? Two staff members at the Israeli embassy were murdered at a museum in Washington DC. The young woman was shot as she ran away. She was shot after she fell down. She was shot as she crawled away. The murderer reloaded his handgun and shot her until the victim could no longer move. Then he shot her again.

Democrats control the city of Washington DC. The city makes it very hard to get a carry permit. The museum was a gun free zone. The victims were disarmed. The murderer did not have a license to carry a gun. He didn’t have a license to carry in Illinois where he lived or from the District of Columbia where he committed cold blooded murder. Democrats and the mainstream media told us that criminals would obey our gun laws and we’d be safer if we were disarmed.

The murderer passed thousands of local, state, and federal background checks. He bought his gun 5 years go. He passed a background check in order to receive his Firearms owners identification card. He passed several background checks to purchase his gun. He passed a background check each time he bought ammunition. Illinois ran background checks on him every single night. The murderer also waited 72 hours to take possession of his firearm after he passed a background check. Democrats said that makes us safer too.

The murderer (Elias Rodriguez) was a left wing radical. He donated the maximum allowed to Biden’s election. He started a fund to oppose President Trump. The murderer’s father works for a union of  government employees. As he was being arrested, the murderer shouted that he supported Palestinians.

Murderer transported firearms across state lines.

5th circut court case on suppressors. The 5th circuit court of appeals did a horrible job. They said that mufflers are not guns, but we get to regulate them as if they were. This seems to say that the federal government can regulate any part that gun owners don’t need, like sights, slings, magazines, cleaning supplies, scopes, recoil pads or grips. All of those could require a license and fee, and that they are not protected by the second amendment.

That is interesting since the house of representatives reduced the federal licensing tax on mufflers to zero. They then proposed to take mufflers off of the National Firearms Act list. This case out of Louisiana is now in front of the US Supreme court. The Trump administration said that mufflers are firearms and they are protected by the second amendment. If they are not firearms, then why regulate them at all? They did a good job of making those arguments. They did a poor job of explaining why the second amendment and accepted regulations from 1790 justified the National Firearms Act and restricting the ownership of a muffler. They made the argument, but they did a poor job of it. I wonder if they were trying to lose that part of the case. If so, then good for them.

The fifth circuit isn’t alone it its twisted view of firearms. Last week, the Washington State Supreme Court upheld the state’s ban on magazines that hold over ten rounds, overturning a lower court order that had deemed it unconstitutional. The 7-2 decision in State v. Gator’s Custom Guns affirmed a state law enacted in 2022 that prevents the sale, manufacture and import of ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. It said that magazines aren’t guns.. Right, and tires aren’t cars.

Marion Hammer is a past president of the NRA. She claimed that gun-control groups offered her $5 Million dollars for her to stop lobbying. Hammer was the first female president of the NRA. She filed a lawsuit in federal court. Hammer is now suing the NRA since they stopped paying her as a lobbyist and advocate. In that lawsuit she also claims that Brady United offered her millions of dollars. She claimed taking the money would require her to cut ties with the NRA and stop lobbying on behalf of gun interests. She cited the attempted bribe to show how effective she was. Brady United said they never offered her a dime. The NRA used to pay Hammer 220-thousand dollars a year. That was the old NRA under La Pierre. https://thereload.com/former-nra-president-claims-gun-control-group-offered-5-million-for-her-to-quit/

Some sheriffs do an outstanding job. A Pennsylvania sheriff put a staff member into the community to process concealed carry applications. They are in three firearms stores and at a farmer’s market. The application process through the Mobile Gun Permit Unit is the same as it would be through the Sheriff’s office. Applicants have to be 21 years old, pass a background check, submit a valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License or Identification Card, show a pair of unrelated references like tax forms or utility bills to verify their address, and pay a $20 fee. Some of the rural counties in Pennsylvania have half of the adults with their carry permits. This county is immediately north of Philadelphia and extends most of the way to Allentown. I wonder if this is a response to violent criminals from Phyladelphia. https://www.thetruthaboutguns.com/bucks-county-mobile-ltcf-permit-program-2025/

I prepared some firearms and second-amendment material for Bill Frady’s Lock-N-Load podcast. We didn’t get to some of it, so here is the Second Amendment news.

Audio from Spotify here.

We were talking about firearms being a tradeoff and that got me thinking. You can get a pocket gun or a full sized gun. I guess you COULD carry a full sized race-gun if you were open carrying. I was thinking about the other tradeoffs we make. We all want a carry gun that we can shoot quickly and accurately.

Let’s say that you have the goldilocks gun so it is neither too big nor too small. Also, it fits your hand perfectly. Other firearms may be as good, but none are better. It still isn’t the perfect gun.

  • Different guns have different contours. Some give you a better natural point of aim. That helps you get on target for your first shot in less time. It also allows you to be more accurate for your first shot. What about the second shot?
  • Some firearms have a lower bore axis and less muzzle flip. That puts you on target faster for your second shot.
  • Some pistols have iron sights that are easy to see. That helps you shoot quickly at close range.
  • Some have an optic like a red dot reflex sight. That helps you with accuracy at a distance.
  • You want a gun with the right amount of trigger force so you can shoot both quickly and accurately. What ever you do, it has to all work together.

I’ve yet to see a gun that had it all. For a given amount of practice, you will have a weakness where you need extra practice. Is that poor natural point of aim, or lack of practice? Is that poor recoil management, or is it a flinch that needs more dry practice? I know where my weaknesses are. That is what instruction can teach you.

Here is a suggestion. We all notice that it has been a while since we went to the range. That happens to me all the time. Make sure that you have at least two dry practice sessions between each trip to the range. That helps you learn and practice your trigger press rather than exaggerating your flinch.

Stories of Defensive Gun Use-

DGU1 Are you armed when you are working on the job site?

DGU2 Are you armed when you are working behind the counter?

2A news-

Washington state supreme court upheld a magazine ban. The majority of justices found that magazines aren’t “arms,” but are simply accessories. They upheld a state law that bans the sale or transfer of gun ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. You can own them, but can’t sell them or buy them. The ruling was 7-2.

Quote, “the right to purchase the magazines is not “an ancillary right necessary to the realization of the core right to possess a firearm in self-defense.” Note that the ban does not apply to law enforcement officers. I wonder why.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis commented on a city gun registry that was discovered last week. Quote, “Having a gun registry is unlawful and it is a violation of people’s Second Amendment rights; there needs to be consequences for it. I was surprised to see that that would happen, but our laws in Florida are very clear, our Constitution is very clear. Doing these secret gun registries is completely unacceptable.” close quote. The city of Jacksonville kept a registry of people who registered their firearms as they entered city hall.

The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said that non-violent felons don’t have second amendment rights. The “permanent and categorical disarmament” of felons was consistent with the country’s historical tradition of firearms regulation, and with the 2nd Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Some states disagree. Here is another gun case that the US supreme court is ignoring.

California Attorney General joined 18 attorneys general in filing an amicus brief supporting the constitutionality of New York’s restrictions against carrying firearms in public parks. Somehow, that box with a slot in it where you submit your park fee, that turns the dirt roads into a secure location where you should be disarmed. If gun free zone signs worked, then why do we need the TSA? Did I mention that the US Supreme court ignores broken gun laws?

A similar argument was brought last week in Maryland. The state declared all kinds of places as off limits after the Bruen decision a few years ago. Lawyers for the state struggled to explain why all these places only became gun free zones after Bruen. As one judge pointed out, “how does a subway—where people are regularly assaulted—qualify as a “gun-free zone” when there’s no armed security?” Good question, judge. Shouldn’t that be exactly the kind of place where law-abiding citizens need to carry?

Under Bruen, when a gun law burdens a right clearly protected by the Second Amendment—like carrying a firearm for self-defense in public—the government bears the burden of proving the restriction is consistent with historical tradition.

The pro-rights lawyers said we must look to 1791—the year the Second Amendment was adopted—to find any valid historical analogs. OK, so we look at 1791 and the only recognized sensitive places were where the government provided comprehensive, armed security: courthouses (with armed bailiffs), legislative buildings (with sergeants-at-arms), and polling places (guarded by sheriffs). That is the end of a very short list. So unless the government is actually doing the protecting, they can’t take away your right to protect yourself. Calling something a “sensitive place” isn’t enough. The government must treat it like one—meaning metal detectors, armed guards, physical security that keeps people out, and secured entry that keeps armed people outside. Otherwise, the Constitution wins.

Let me give you a final quotation, “Just because Maryland calls a museum sensitive doesn’t mean it is. No security, no detectors, no armed guards? Then it’s just a museum —and I still have my right to carry.”

We have talked about this before. Texas lawmakers took up a major consumer safety bill that could change the legal landscape for businesses that choose to disarm their customers. The bill holds businesses civilly liable when they post signs banning lawful carry—and a criminal act leads to injury or death on the premises. If a business is going to post a sign that disarms law-abiding citizens, then they should be prepared to answer for what happens when criminals injure their customers.

By analogy, what about cities who ban guns in city hall?

Democrat Governor of Arizona vetoed a bill that would have fined government officials when the official deliberately violates state law and a citizens civil right to keep and bear arms. The bill would have imposed a fine. That was too much for the Democrat governor. Bloomberg got his money’s worth when he got Katie Hobbs elected. Elections have consequences even in Arizona.

Republicans Expose Politicized FBI

May 6, 2025

We were told that Republicans are right wing extremists and that Democrats are the party of outreach and dialogue. That political branding by the mainstream media is valuable to the Democrat brand. The reality that we see is quite different. We’ve had at least three attempted assassination attempts on Republicans. We see the facts even if the FBI refuses to recognize them.

The FBI said that the attacker who seriously injured four people in 2017 was really a person who wanted to commit suicide by cop. In fact, the attack was an act of partisan domestic terrorism that the FBI deliberately mislabeled. Only now do we have the FBI information. Only now has the House Intelligence Committee reviewed and questioned the conclusions of the original the FBI report. President Trump would have at least two assassination attempts.

President Trump took office in early 2017. A political supporter of Bernie Sanders was quite upset with the election. He blamed Trump and the Republicans for Sanders dropping out of the Democrat race for President. It seems odd to me that a Sanders supporter blames Republicans for how the Democrats chose their candidate. We know that Sanders received a lot of money to withdraw and let Hillary take the nomination.

The Sanders supporter was enraged by President Trump and Congressional Republicans. The 65-year old man went to Arlington, Virginia and deliberately attacked Republican congressmen who were practicing for a charity baseball game. He shot and seriously wounded four people before capital police officers shot and killed the attacker.

We don’t have to wonder what the murderer thought since he told us in his own words. The murderer was extremely partisan and politically motivated.

-He asked bystanders which team was on the field, was it the Republicans or the Democrats who were practicing. He was told that the team on the field was the Republicans. That is called a clue that he wanted to shoot Republicans.

-The murderer’s online posts include “Trump is a Traitor. Trump Has Destroyed Our Democracy. It’s Time to Destroy Trump & Co.” He added, “Republicans Hate Women, Minorities, Working Class People, & Most All (99%) of the People of the Country.”

-The murderer also joined online chat groups called “Terminate The Republican Party” and “Join The Resistance Worldwide!!” Ordinary people call that a clue.

You should believe them when someone tells you what they think. Somehow, all that was too subtle for the FBI to understand.

It was either too subtle, or the FBI was blinded by politics and unable to see an obvious political motivation. It would take the FBI another four years to question their decision. It would take eight years and a new FBI director for the House Intelligence Committee to get and review the FBI files. The FBI report was misclassified as Secret. It seems that the misclassification was a deliberate attempt to keep the report away from the public and the congress.

The Intelligence Committee report is here. Corrupted agencies like the FBI are why we now distrust our government institutions. It will take a lifetime to rebuild that trust. This attack and the other two assassination attempts were by partisan Democrats. Democrats now include people who advocate and then turn to violence. We saw that when Democrat politicians “let them protest” as cities burned. We saw it in the two assassination attacks on President Trump. We have to recognize these actions as partisan political violence.

Now, let’s see the Democrats step away from them.. or not.
