My really tiny DVD collection...
Most of you would consider me a "movie" guy...but I only own 77 actual movies (no tvshows) on DVD...I have about 1,300 movies...but most of them are ***COUGH*** backup copies...
The newest movie I own is probably Gladiator, I have basically sold off everything (and copied all of it...cough...) that wasnt either a top 100 favorite flick, wasn't a widescreen DVD, or was just something I "kinda" liked...I bet most of my friends thought I owned more and was much more pretencious...I still felt the need to keep all 4 GOOD Ernest movies...pretencious? I think not.

GEORGE LUCAS RAPES RAPISTS!!!
I woke up and wrote this response on a George Lucas Message Board to a guy who was heavily arguing that INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL was a quality film of merit...I was half asleep and filled with geek anger...typos abound...
I hated the entire movie...as a life long Indy hardcore fan. I understand your arguments and completely disagree with them...it is not nostalgia vs. ignorance...crystal skull was a sloppy attempt.
1) the editing. christ how bad was the editing? It was pathetic. There were so many moments of non-continuity, such as ford's head facing forward then in the next cut it is to the side. This is NOT nitpicking, the awful editing was completely jarring, a huge glaring beacon of laser light shining into the face of the audience saying "we don't even care enough to shoot coverage!!!"
2) David Koepp's script was a disjointed, frankenstien monster of a bucket full of *beep* I don't care where the fault lay with who approved it, the thing was painfully segmented, devoid of any majestic film note-worthy moments. It was a script that felt as though it was constructed by a sub par intelligence who ONLY knew of the character of indy jones but never truly loved or understood what the character was about. Hence "Indiana jones...oh he travels all over the world, his travels are the most important thing there is, he is unkillable, He is like brendan fraiser's character in the mummy but before the mummy came out" There was no respect here, just painful slop.
3) the Action. My favorite quality of Indy is that he truly cant fight that well...he gets his ass kicked to a healthy degree until he pulls himself back up and wins a fight at the last minute. Indy vs. a Fighter...Indy isnt slick, and the people he fights (in the first 3 films) aren't "slick" post-matrix drivel characters. "Slick fighting" (such as Spalko and Mutt are capable of) does not belong in a the Indy Universe...and If it has to be included then Indy should be the one fighting the highly skilled villian, getting his ass kicked, then winning last minute. In this film, instead, we get a villian with highly tuned fighting skills fighting a protagonist (A crap character we dont even care about) with tuned fighting skills...while indy drives a car? This is a prime example of all that is wrong with this film...the only, and I mean the ONLY time this movie ever even tasted the same air as the other indy films is when indy was fighting the russian officer...which was completely underplayed and FOLLOWING the awful overblown massive fight sequence that Mutt was just displayed in. Lucas, spielberg, koepp...whoever, didnt care about indy, they cared about the brand...they just made A movie that would make summer money, they werent concerned with making an INDY film, just a film they could sell as an indy film.

Now I do not plan to pick on this kid any further. He is only 13. However, this is very saddening to read. This kid is probably from a suburban home, he looks to be well off. Yet he can not even string a sentence together, nor come back with a thought that even remotely pertains to anything I said. In fact his message is so garbled I honestly don't know what he said. This is an American teenager? What are we teaching these fucking kids? Do they go to school all day and watch rap videos and read magazines? It's sad on so many levels. I don't know what to say about it.
