An Eventful Birthday

Happy Birthday Daddy, I sliced my finger open! Sunday July 24th 2011 was quite the eventful day! Dad of course was busy at church with his Church responsibilities. The rest of us were at home prepping for the big celebration for when Dad got home. Garrett decided to be a nice guy and feed sunny (the Cat) some tuna fish. He took the can outside and next thing I knew came barrelling into the house waving his fingers spurting blood. He was screaming and waving his arms and was so out of control he slipped and slid right up next to me on the kitchen floor. I finally got him to hold his had still and calm down enough to survey the damage. Two deep gashes on his thumb and middle finger. Now the dilemma.... what to do now? Do I take Garrett to the ER and sit for 3 hours with all the kids or do we wait til Dad gets home? So I called my good friend Kristin whose husband is a Dr. for advice. She told me to hold on and Matt would be right over. Matt came to the rescue with his Dr.'s kit in the ready. Right there on the kitchen table he sewed Garrett up! Garrett almost passed out, he was white as a ghost. But Aubrey was Matt's second in command and asked a million questions as she leaned over to watch the entire process. I had to ask Aubrey to stop commenting on what Matt was doing because Garrett was getting more upset when he knew all the details. I laugh about it now, it was really quite comical! One kid white as a ghost and the other wanting to pick up the needle and start sewing. So, thank you to Matt for saving the day and Dad's Birthday. We were able to celebrate with Dad and have an enjoyable rest of the day.

Aubrey was cute, she wouldn't let me leave Garrett's side. She wanted me to lay next to him and shooed me back every time I left his side. She cleaned the house and took care of Layton. Then she put Garrett to bed that night, tucked him in and brought him breakfast in bed the next morning. Every brother needs a sister like that!

Happy Father's Day to the best Dad on the planet! What a fun afternoon we shared with our favorite guy. Kingly treatment, a yummy steak dinner, Rocket Launching and then our Father's Day tradition of "Ice Cream Hide and Seek". We discover who the Ice Cream connoisseurs are in our family as we each have to guess the flavor and contents of 10 small Ben and Jerry's ice cream tubs.

where to begin?

So many posts, so little time.
Our summer began with the Kids Tri at Whitworth. Aubrey was NOT excited (although she was SO proud when she finished). Aubrey and Dalyn worked their tails off to complete the triathalon. It was not easy but I was so proud of how they conquered their fears and went for it. I think Layton and I ran a triathalon as well as we sprinted between events for Dalyn and Aubrey. Whew! It was made all the better because we had our good friends the Wallaces to enjoy the day with us! Aubrey didn't take her medal off the entire day. Springers can do HARD things!

Dalyn's 7th birthday party was a special training for ninja warriors. Ninja training inlcuded balancing training exercises, ninja sword training, and ninja star training (ninja stars made by Garrett). Then all the kids put their ninja skills to the test in a grueling obstacle course that required all their skills! It was a blast. Complete with Grandma and Grandpa ninja coming for an extra treat. Dalyn is our sweet little ninja and we love him to pieces!

New Year's Day Bowling

What would New Year's Day be without the traditional bowling? Across the country Gundersen siblings and their family's gather at bowling alleys, grease up the bowling balls, dust off the shoes for the annual game. After a breakfast of waffles with strawberries and whip cream (yet another tradition) we are ready to hit the alleys. As you can see from the faces, this game is not taken lightly. Bowling scores are compared and sometimes even saved in the wallet for future proof if the score is high enough (you can ask Scott for his bowling score the next time you see him, he might just have it tucked away).

I'm Blogging!

I was reminded today of my less than fabulous blogging performance. This really is something I want to keep up with. I really do want to document my family's precious moments.... oh but shouldn't I check my email one more time, or, look at the cute stuff they have on Zulily today, or as in the case of tonight.... do I really have to clean poop out of the tub, I thought we were beyond that stage! So ADHD and gross mothering moments aside, today I blog! No more excuses, no more procrastination, no more distraction Springer Life is coming back to life. Or, maybe I should just call it a night and hit the hay. My bed is calling my name....

So this this post is January, doesn't sound that far behind, we are only in February right.... ha, ha January 2010~ So we are starting a year behind, I better get cracking....

January 2010: we hit the Cour'd'lene Cruise after Christmas and had a blast, even if the Santa yelling out our names and telling the kids to be good boys and girls was a bit anti-climatic. The kids thought it was so cool to run around the outside of the ship in the freezing cold. I think I remember a hot chocolate spill in there somewhere too. I had gotten a new camera for Christmas so I was playing around with all the settings. Cassi and Caleb came for a quick over night visit on the way home from Wenatchee.
