The Big Give 2025

Every child deserves a future filled with hope, safety, and the chance to learn. For thousands of Syrian and Iranian refugee children in Northern Iraq, this is a distant dream. They face the daily realities of displacement, trauma, and a disrupted education that puts their futures at risk.

Donate to Big Give Campaign

This is your chance to make a monumental difference. We have managed to extend the campaign for those who would still like to give!

Until December 31st, your donation to STEP UK through the Big Give campaign will be DOUBLED. This match-funding means your gift will have twice the power, helping us reach our new £34,400 target and providing vital support to vulnerable children who need it most.

Your doubled donation will directly fund our work to provide:

Education

Early childhood development and educational support to help children overcome language barriers and catch up on lost learning.

Safety

Child-friendly spaces for trauma recovery, child protection, and a secure environment where children can play and heal.

Resilience

Psychosocial support and therapeutic activities to help children build resilience and cope with the long-term effects of displacement.

We are a child protection charity working with Syrian and Iranian refugees, internally displaced Iraqi's and orphans or separated children who live in care homes. Check out our 2024 Impact Report to see some of the ways we provided children with play, care, safety and education last year.

These lives couldn't have been changed without the partnership of our compassionate donors.

£5/month will: provide a year of activities and compassionate interactions for a child - access to play and care

£7/month will: provide education, care & psychosocial support for a child in our Child Friendly Space - a chance to rebuild

£25/month will: support 5 children to stay in school, with homework support sessions - providing a chance to thrive

Our story in Iraq

STEP began working in Northern Iraq back in 2001 when the Kurdish people were still suffering under the regime of Saddam Hussein.

During the war of 2003, STEP provided emergency support to orphans, working children and internally displaced young people, who had no place to go to during the time of crisis.

After the war, STEP extended its work and efforts into the areas previously under the control of Saddam Hussein's Iraqi government.

'Calling out to the Mountain'

STEP's rock-climbing project started in 2017 and has expanded over the years with trips offered to refugee and IDP youth. It has proved extremely popular as demonstrated by the increased demand by the boys and girls. This programme has been used as a pilot project for the development of a therapeutic and potential peacebuilding opportunity for displaced youth from different communities.
