It's sunny and the snow is melting!

Day 10: Write about something for which you feel strongly.

I have no idea how to respond to this prompt, but here are three political/charitable organizations I give money to:
  • Planned Parenthood (women's reproductive healthcare)
  • ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union - protecting civil rights via lawsuits)
  • Rainbow Railroad (resettling LGBT people who fear for their lives in other countries)
I give to Planned Parenthood because the idea of living in a country where abortion is illegal terrifies me. I give to the ACLU because... because Trump is president and who knows what he'll try next. I give to Rainbow Railroad because the issue pulls at my heartstrings.

I don't give to the SPLC (keeps watch on hate-groups and fights discrimination in court). Why? I should. I know I gave them a one-time donation at some point, because they sent me a bumper sticker.

I spilled some pasta today and wouldn't let the kitten have it (after opening a can of tuna and not letting him have that either). So he was extra vicious while wrestling my arm (through the sleeve) a few minutes ago, with growling and hissing. I'm not mad; he did grow up on the streets next to a dumpster, so he had some food insecurity in the past. He's being sweet now. But also lying directly on my arms again so it's difficult to type...

On the plus side: he is very warm.

I found a yoga class I could go to later today, and I am going to try to go. That is the plan. I haven't been to the gym in a month or more, so this would be great if I actually went through with it. Wish me luck.

So I started a bullet journal, but what happened is that I just ended up merging my daily stream-of-consciousness writings with my to-do lists and writing research and calendars. I have almost filled up a third of my little Leuchtturm notebook already and of course it bothers me that it's not pretty. Not sure whether it's actually helping yet or not.

What is your Hogwarts House?
I always thought I would lean towards Gryffindor, but friends have pegged me as Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Whatever.

What is your Myers-Briggs?

I am most definitely an introvert. That's the only thing I have ever been 100% sure of during the many times I took that test. I was mostly doing it for career purposes in college, trying to figure out what I wanted to do with my life. I came to the conclusion that I was probably INxx. Shockingly, this did not help me decide on a career. At this point, I think INFJ suits me best, but I can do the other three if I need to.

I posted in [community profile] addme and [community profile] 2017revival this weekend, and now I have like 10 new followers. So I'm a little overwhelmed. I need to collect my brains.

Going to try something new here: I will write for 30 minutes (to finish up the extra hour I started earlier this morning), and I will update you when I'm done! So exciting! Wait for it!

By the way, if you're looking for new friends, there is a crazy amount of activity going over at [community profile] 2017revival and [community profile] addme. Also check out this friending meme [personal profile] springviolets posted. This place is going nuts.

EDIT:  I did it! Yay! Up two full hours today, and hopefully another one this evening.

I found this awesome post on Tumblr about getting yourself to write and I'm going to try and post it here. Let's see if this works... OK, no I think that's just a link. But's it's good!

Ice Storm

There is an ice storm all over the Midwest, so I'm stuck inside this weekend unless I want to go out and do something reckless. However, this does give me plenty of time to work on my writing (and laundry).

I've been reading over my plot outline, and I decided it's not quite as strong as I want it to be. If I write it well, it should still work, but the whole 'writing it well' thing is going to be difficult since I'm just starting out. Two things:
  • Find a small section I can show to others to get feedback on. Could post it online (Dreamwidth, AO3), print it out and show it to friends, or email it to my sister who keeps saying she's writing stuff. And prepare myself for A) strong negative feedback, and/or B) inadequate feedback (which is more likely to happen, realistically).
  • Don't limit self to this one story. Write down other stuff that comes to mind too. Plan it out even. I can come back to this later. It's good to write a variety of things, even if it's just for practice.

Another thing I could do is write a sort of skeleton draft where everything is in order so you can add stuff to it later. Something where you don't think too hard about it while writing. I saw someone posting about something similar that they heard about on a podcast - here's the post (by [personal profile] inkstone): it's called a 0 draft, and she has a link to the podcast too. I like the idea; it seems like an easy way to get organized.

Plot!

OMG so I think I finally figured out a solid plot for my epic-length overly complex space drama that I started during NaNoWriMo. Maybe I will come up with a good teaser/intro for the story at some point and post it here later, but mainly I just wanted to say that I finally fixed my meandering plot mess and now I have somewhere to go with it. Yay!

So I signed up for NaNoWriMo, which means I'm not going to die without trying. I've written a grand total of 2.5 paragraphs so far, and reading back over it I realize it's pretty depressing with a hint of anger. Not really how I see myself, but maybe that's how I am on the inside. Sad. But hey, at least I'm doing something!

I might start writing again. I secretly want to write a story, but I can't write a story if I don't actually write, so.
