Course Description:
In most commercial applications, outdoor living spaces are a key amenity. A functional shade structure can add depth to storefronts, expand outdoor services, or improve the comfort of a patio space. This course discusses the types and features of off-site manufactured open-frame shade structures, their recommended detailing and applications, and the key design considerations for safe and effective installations.

Evaluate the types of material available for shade structures and discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each option in terms of durability and maintenance requirements.

Recognize how column style, end style, trim, and color affect the aesthetic of a shade structure.
