On 10 November 2010, over 50,000 students took to the streets of London to protest the government’s plans to slash higher education funding and marketise universities. The new student movement was born. Occupations, protests and direct actions have sprung up all over the UK, taking the government, media and universities by surprise, and reinvigorating student activism for a new generation. We lost the vote, but the battle has only just begun.
Student Theory is designed to bring theory and practice together, to consider what we have achieved and where we go next.
(Student Theory is founded by Maeve McKeown, a Political Theory PhD student at University College London (UCL), who took part in the UCLOccupation.)
