2025 impact

In 2025, Democrats won 100% of the races that the Swing Left community supported.

From California to Virginia, Swing Left helped Democrats gain significant state-level power in the fight against Trump and the GOP. We focused on competitive races with national implications. The work of thousands of grassroots volunteers and donors from across the country powered these victories.

On April 1, 2025, Judge Susan Crawford defeated former Republican Attorney General Brad Schimel in the most expensive judicial election in American history. Swing Left volunteers and donors helped overcome the Elon Musk-funded effort to flip Wisconsin’s Supreme Court, preserving a liberal majority.

In Virginia, the Swing Left community helped Democrats win all three statewide offices and expand their majority in the House of Delegates—securing a Democratic trifecta in the Commonwealth.

Abigail Spanberger—a 2018 Swing Left alumna—flipped the Virginia governor’s office blue, giving Democrats full control of Virginia’s government for the first time since 2021. Ghazala Hashmi and Jay Jones—who won their races for lieutenant governor and attorney general—will play pivotal roles in advancing key legislation and in defending Virginians’ rights against attacks by the Trump administration.

In the House of Delegates, Democrats expanded their majority thanks to wins by all eight candidates that Swing Left supported: Elizabeth Guzman (House District 22), John McAuliff (House District 30), Stacey Carroll (House District 64), Jessica Anderson (House District 71), Leslie Mehta (House District 73), Lindsey Dougherty (House District 75), Virgil Thornton, Sr. (House District 86), and Kacey Carnegie (House District 89).

These victories will help Democrats advance progress on issues such as affordability, reproductive rights, and voting rights. Democrats will also be able to take the next step in a major redistricting initiative that could shift more U.S. House seats toward Democrats—mitigating the unfair GOP gains in states like Texas, Missouri, and North Carolina.

In California, volunteers knocked doors, made calls, and wrote letters and flyers encouraging Californians to turn out for the Prop 50 Ballot Initiative—which passed with overwhelming support from 64.4% of voters.

With its passage, California’s congressional districts will be temporarily redrawn ahead of the midterms in 2026—a major win for Democrats’ chances of flipping the U.S. House, and a big setback for Republican efforts to gerrymander their way into a permanent majority.

This year, we reimagined Democratic voter contact by piloting Ground Truth—Swing Left’s innovative, people-powered canvassing program that’s helping Democrats win back power.

Volunteers led 25 Ground Truth pilot canvasses in 12 congressional swing districts—talking with voters, listening deeply, and rebuilding trust ahead of the 2026 midterms to help Democrats flip the House.

Thank you to Swing Left’s grassroots volunteers, donors, elected officials, and partners who worked together to achieve these victories.

Help keep the winning streak going in 2026 and beyond:
