Inspired by a Snowflake Challenge challenge yesterday to just take a day for myself, I turned on the TV and watched hockey for twelve hours and read through an interlibrary loan that was due back tomorrow and the stack of books I'd taken out of the library in early October and had just been renewing ever since.

I read, in no particular order:

  • Ms. Marvel (2014) vol. 2 and 3 (having read vol. 1 on Friday for book club in the Earth-616 server this week)
  • Grayson vol. 2, 3, 4 and 5
  • Midnighter vol. 1 and 2
  • Midnighter and Apollo
  • Under the Black Flag by David Cordingly

Most of these were for-fun-only reads, but Under the Black Flag was for research purposes. It was, thankfully, an excellent read as well.

This meant, of course, I had to put on pants today and head to the library to return everything, and ahhhhh, it is cold outside. Warmer than the last few days, yes, but I will never get used to this. I have lived in this area for ten years, and I'm still not okay with this level of brutal cold.

Plans for today include watching more of the last season of Hotel Hell, watching Roma and cleaning my bedroom.

Things I have accomplished over last seven days:
  1. Read the Ravenels series by Lisa Kleypas. West/Phoebe are the next ones up, and I was four books behind, so. I'm not quite done Hello Stranger, but...
  2. Watched my hockey team lose. A lot. They'll probably lose again this afternoon, but I can watch hockey and read at the same time, and I have a book to finish up. But eventually, they have to win, right? Statistically speaking.
  3. Got through some of my fic backlog and left some comments. I barely scratched the surface.
  4. Worn some combination of sweatpants + Toronto Furies tee-shirt whenever possible.
  5. Fixed my Dreamwidth tags and updated my interests.
  6. Brainstormed my Marvel Trumps Hate story. I even took notes.
  7. Figured out which story goes with which bingo square for trope bingo. Looks like a split between sequels and new stories, with one still undecided.
  8. Took a ridiculous amount of baths, because I have too much stuff from Lush and some of it is ancient.
  9. Bought a selection of fruity beers.
  10. Replaced my windshield wipers after complaining about them for six months. Harder than it needed to be.
  11. Read a bunch of werewolf romance novels.
  12. Kept up with Snowflake Challenge.
  13. Played Sims 4 a lot because I can do that and read at the same time.
  14. Went to work when required. I love weeks with a lot of holidays.
  15. Watched a bunch of Hotel Hell because I can do that and read at the same time.

I am an extremely lucky and grateful Tangerine right now. Two gift fics! Two wonderful gift fics!

For [community profile] yuletide, I got:

Narcissus (3663 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Eroica Yori Ai o Komete | From Eroica with Love
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Klaus von dem Eberbach/Dorian Red Gloria
Characters: Klaus von dem Eberbach, Dorian Red Gloria
Additional Tags: Yuletide 2018, Pre-Slash

There's so much lovely tension between them, and Dorian aggravating Klaus, and Klaus being aggravated. Klaus attempts to hire Eroica for a job, and Dorian attempts to negotiate a better deal. I just love how these guys play off each other here. ♥

For [community profile] xxx_change, I got:

Family You Have Yet To Come To Know (5338 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: X-Factor (Comics)
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Creator Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Julio Richter/Shatterstar, Alison Blaire/Longshot
Characters: Longshot (X-Men), Shatterstar (Marvel)
Additional Tags: Family Feels
Summary: Longshot and Shatterstar make pancakes and go on a mission.

Family feels indeed. Sometimes, I read a story, and I am honestly sad that it isn't canon, and this is definitely one of those stories. A lovely Longshot-POV story about him and Shatterstar. It has so many great moments, and the ending just about did me in. ♥

Happy Holidays to all!

Weee, 2019 almost being here means another [community profile] snowflake_challenge! I did it in 2013 and then again in 2018. In 2018 especially, it was integral in keeping my fannish love strong. So much fun! People can check my Snowflake Challenge tag to get an idea of what it involves.

In other news, I am waist deep in some heavy editing. I possibly signed up for too many challenges on top of posting a WIP with a very tight schedule and an end date I am determined to hit. I'm planning on doing a year-in-review post or something come January, but I can say already that 2018 was my most productive year since 2003, when I wrote 275k words about sparkly dance boys.

Fic: Anchor

[community profile] marvel_bang started up on the 15th, but my artist and I turned out to be the first ones to post on the 17th.

[personal profile] nafs did me a massive favour when my original beta-related plans didn't work out (thank you again so much), so that was a little stressful, but at least now we have a bunch of typos to laugh about together (fingers and brain, seriously, what is up with you two).

The story:

Anchor (58383 words) by Tangerine
Chapters: 10/10
Fandom: X-Men (Comicverse)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Julio Richter/Shatterstar
Additional Tags: Undercover as Married, Mission Fic, Cruise Ships, Romance, Established Relationship, Canon Gay Relationship, Angst and Fluff and Smut, Food, Alcohol, Major Character Injury, Bodily Fluids, Trauma, Embedded Images, Marvel Bang 2018
Summary: At the request of Kitty Pryde, Rictor and Shatterstar go undercover as a married couple to investigate a possible ghost on a gay cruise. Half mission, half vacation, Rictor and Shatterstar work towards solving the mystery while also thoroughly enjoying all the amenities the ship has to offer.

This is basically the most self-indulgent thing I have ever written. No lies. I had doubts at the beginning that I could write such a long story with an established relationship, that actually required a plot (ehhhh more or less), but... I just really like cruise ships for some reason, guys, I don't know.

And now... I can finally see Venom. My body is ready.

I am def not made for business travel. It probably doesn't help that each last flight segment (to and from) was delayed, so what was already a long layover became crazy long. The business men beside me in the waiting area were very distressed. I ate too many free cookies.

That said, I am going to VividCon, because I am made for leisure travel. I was on the wait-list for months, totally gave up hope, and then came off the wait-list. I am also clearly very susceptible to suggestion when [personal profile] kerithwyn is involved. :)

I finally solved a big mind hurdle in my Marvel Bang plotting, so hopefully, writing can commence soon. Basically, my entire month of July will be dedicated to this thing. I also suddenly have THREE Iceman/Angel bunnies, which is amazing.

I am so tired, but it's Canada Day weekend, so, you know, things to do, no rest for the weary, etc.

[community profile] fandom5k stories went live! [Unknown LJ tag] </user> wrote the lovely Where the Heart is for me. Iloveitsomuch!

During [community profile] fandom5k sign ups, I read every request and quickly realized I was going to match on absolutely nothing. So it was time to broaden my horizons! Be brave! So, with some swagger in my step, I offered two TV fandoms (with moving people! played by actors!). Despite being in fandom for decades, I've only written in one other TV fandom (Dead Zone, I still love you). And hey, it was a good thing I did, because did you know Star Trek: Discovery did NOT end on a cliffhanger in episode 13? I didn't. So, you know, I actually finished the show, and then wrote a story for [personal profile] damkianna. What a fun challenge [community profile] fandom5k was!

The Slowing of Time (5278 words) by Tangerine
Fandom: Star Trek: Discovery
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Michael Burnham/Sylvia Tilly
Characters: Michael Burnham, Sylvia Tilly, Saru (Star Trek)
Additional Tags: Mission Fic, Pining, Getting Together, Love
Summary: Stranded with Tilly on a seemingly harmless planet, Michael sorts through a variety of feelings.

My H/C Bingo CardCollapse )

Mmm. Very good card. I have 14 pages of an amnesia fic already written, so that'll probably be my launching point. BUT FIRST, SELF, AT LEAST START MARVEL BANG.

Is it comic book day yet?? (Major spoilers for X-Men Gold 30 and Cable 158, both out tomorrow)Collapse )

Ahem.

In other news, I finished Sens8. Really nice ending. It made me happy.

Marvel Bang is ... doing something in my head. I really have to figure out the timeline, but that means reading X-Force AGAIN because my ability to remember anything is shot. What a hardship, I know.

I did finish my [community profile] raremaleslashex story, and I'm VERY pleased with it. Like, I did something I find really hard, and I think it was successful? I hope so anyway. It turns out it's not due until the end of July, but I guess I have become that person who finishes things early.

Hmmm.

And then, finally, [community profile] fandom5k went live! And I got a Rictor/Shatterstar story! Set immediately post X-Force 43 aka That Pivotal Turning Point In Their Relationship. Iloveitsomuch.

Where the Heart is (5643 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: X-Factor (Comics), X-Force (Comics)
Rating: Explicit
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Relationships: Julio Richter/Shatterstar
Additional Tags: First Time, Pining, Hand Jobs, Friends to Lovers, Angst and Fluff and Smut
Summary:This... whatever this is, it's a bad idea to do it here. They all live too closely to keep secrets and he's not ready to be caught like this. But there's also no way that Rictors's going back to his room to leave Shatterstar alone. Not as long as 'Star wants him to stay. His brain desperately grasps for a solution and then, miraculously, manages to come up with the perfect one.

"Hey, do you wanna get out of here?"

It's through the act of running away that Rictor works out just where he wants to belong.
