Can you take off your glasses? I need to piss in your face... Thanks.
CompUSA is closing half its stores nationwide, and I thought I'd scavenge for bargains at our local branch. They're a store that I hate so much that they can't even go out of business without pissing me off, though. Their discounts were paltry on actual computer-related stuff. 10-30% off their inflated retail price gets them nowhere close to the best online deals you can find. I just wanted to pick up a SATA cable, which they didn't even appear to have, though if they did it would have been marked down 20% off of $25 or something ridiculous.
But I was surprised to see a number of DVDs that I wouldn't mind owning, since I don't normally think about movies when I think about CompUSA, and they were at a low enough price that I wanted them, and then discounted 20% on top of that. So I made a few selections and took them up to the register.
Once there, they began to cut out the shrinkwrap around the barcode on the package with a razorblade, so I asked them very politely what they were doing and told them I wanted my purchases to be in undamaged condition, and was afraid that their box cutter would cut through the shrinkwrap and into the DVD case itself. They said no problem, they just needed to do this so that their other locations that were still open would know not to accept them for returns because all sales were final, and they said to avoid damaging the case they'd just cut the shrinkwrap at the edge of the case, and I said I was fine with that.
Then, for some reason one of the DVDs wouldn't scan, so they asked me to go back and see if I could find another. And when I came back, I found that they hadn't just cut the shrinkwrap on the packaging, but they'd gone ahead and drawn through the barcode with a permanent magic marker. Nice way to keep that merchandise undamaged, guys! I walked out annoyed, but I'm sure no one cared and why would they.
No matter how low I estimate that company's intelligence to be, they always seem to exceed my underestimates.
