It's tough when you are your own worst user.
~I've been in training for the past few weeks (working hard towards that RHCE!) and for the past two days, my boss has been pitting one half of the room agianst the other in a race for giftcards. We've got to set up a 'comapny' and network and various services...there are about four of us working on each company and already the mail admin has declared 'NO ONE NEEDS E-MAIL. ONLY LOSERS USE E-MAIL' because people keep setting up their clients for IMAP when she set up POP. Also, she's found her computer tends to kernel panic every few hours (damn SMP kernel!) so the system goes 'down for matience' alot. And since the secondary mailserver's not even running...well, people jsut don't get e-mail.
~The Directory Server admin has decided that no one needs home directories because he's often totally unable to log into his box. Of course, since he's leaving us tomorrow to go skiing, no one really cares what he thinks.
~Our router guy occasionally changes all the iptables rules or squid config to 'see if this works better'...which it never does, so we lose internet alot. This is especially bad when someone's running up2date or trying to find a Kbase article.
~The only person who's not having any issues at all is running all our webservices...apache, ftp, and irc. He only set up IRC because he was bored.
~But...atleast we aren't as bad off as the other guys. One of them aparently set his machine up as the master and slave DNS...then turned the machine off. Someone else hit the button that turns all the computers on that side of the room off (wasn't me, I SWEAR! I was trying to get sendmail to make sweet sweet love to ldap. Sendmail is a cold fish. :-( Poor ldap.)
~But daaaaayum. Getting stuff set up is a pain in the ass much less having it work. I'm glad we don't have any REAL users who expected us to have this up yesterday. :-P I'm sure once I get on the phones that will all change. :-D
~Whinning about my 'company'...anyone got any interesting ideas for services we could set up just for the hell of it/get a leg up on the other guys? (Don't worry--boss said we could use any resources we wanted to help us get up and running. ;-) Swear!)~
