Show your constituents your unwavering commitment to government accountability.

An integral component of our mission to enact term limits on members of Congress is garnering pledges from candidates who support this initiative. When a candidate signs the pledge, we typically announce the occasion on our website as well as several social media platforms and issue a press release to media outlets in the district.

Why should you sign the pledge? Voters value citizen legislators who can truly represent them, and signing the pledge is an opportunity to connect with more than 82% of Americans who support congressional term limits. The pledge does not require you to self-limit. Our goal is to term limit the institution as a whole and not on an individual level.

What Prominent Politicians Are Saying

We want to see new voices and new ideas emerge. I think that is why term limits are a really useful thing.

President Barack Obama

Democratic Party, Illinois/D.C.

This is a passion project of mine; I’ve been involved in this issue for a number of years. I’ve rarely seen an issue that no matter what audience I’m speaking in front of, will get a more positive response in any part of the state of Florida, or heck, any place I’ve been in the country.”

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis

As a proud Democrat and former member of Congress, I’ve always believed in our party’s strength: the courage to confront broken systems and fight for change. That’s why I’m urging you to support the U.S. Term Limits resolution for congressional term limits.

U.S. Rep. David Trone

U.S. Rep. David Trone

Democratic Party, Maryland

Congress should be focused on serving people, not themselves. That’s why I support term limits.

U.S. Rep. Josh Riley

U.S. Rep. Josh Riley

Democratic Party, New York

We should term limit them all, fumigate the place and bring them home.

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul

Republican Party, Kentucky

For 248 years, Congress has always responded to mounting pressure from the states before any convention could occur. It’s time to make Congress take responsibility and act in the best interest of the people.

This is the only realistic path to restoring a true citizen legislature in Washington. I am proud to say this resolution passed overwhelmingly in South Dakota, and I encourage other states to follow suit.

State Sen. Casey Crabtree

Republican Party, South Dakota

Our elected representatives seem afraid to do anything that would jeopardize their reelection. Term limits allow them to operate without that pressure, secure in the knowledge that they are not risking the position that could be a lifetime career.

Pennsylvania Gov. Ed Rendell

By adopting this single-issue resolution, we can make Congress confront the term limits issue and restore the ideal of a citizen-led legislature. Now is the time to hold Washington accountable and push for meaningful reform.

U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno

Republican Party, Ohio

The longer you are in office, the less connected you are to the people you represent, the less accountable, the less responsive.

U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke

U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke

Democratic Party, Texas

Their highly effective mail program, which informs voters about candidates supporting term limits, has been met with strong enthusiasm from our constituents. This partnership has strengthened public trust and shown that the issue of federal term limits resonate deeply with voters.

Establishing term limits would make sure fresh perspectives are heard and that Americans are properly represented.

U.S. Rep. Jared Golden

Democratic Party, Maine

Our system will not be fixed by those who broke it; term limits would infuse
Congress with real-world experience, perspectives, and sensibilities that are often missing and replace the smirking class with the working class.

Our Term Limits Constituent Education Program

When possible, USTL uses a wide array of outreach methods to inform the public and our extensive mailing list about who has signed the pledge and who champions term limits. We issue press releases and make vigorous use of social media, along with other traditional and online platforms. Our past efforts have included leasing billboards, distributing door hangers and postcards, and even airing television commercials.

PLEDGE SIGNERS

We ask congressional lawmakers and candidates to sign a term limits pledge saying they will support and cosponsor a resolution for two 6-year terms in the U.S. Senate and three 2-year terms in the U.S. House.

We ask state lawmakers and candidates to support a convention to propose a congressional term limits amendment.

We do not ask lawmakers to self-limit.
