UC: Random
Monday, 6 January 2014 20:17I'm in an iffy mood tonight. But I haven't written for the last two days, and the whole point of this blasted thing was to write more. So...

UC: Months go by
Thursday, 2 January 2014 23:10Why yes, there's a reason why I posted all the UC fragments earlier. :)
Months went by. Bereft of anything else to do, Harry took on a new project: rehabilitating Grimmauld Place. It was Harry's home now, but it still felt like a mausoleum for Sirius Black. Hermione took a room on the first floor; she was still trying to reconcile with her parents, and didn't want to upset them by staying with the Weasleys. Ron came by often, and the three of them had great fun looking for hidden compartments and secret passages and peepholes.
Hogwarts hadn't been too badly damaged during the final battle with Voldemort. Nevertheless, repairs were being made. Headmaster McGonagall, with the help of Professor Vector, rebuilt the wards from scratch. Preparations were made for a larger than usual student body in the fall, since many students were going to have to repeat the previous year's education.

"Umbridge! Umbridge is still working at the Ministry," fumed Harry. "How have they not fired her? She was working with the Death Eaters!"
"That was after they took over," said Arthur Weasly. "For all her faults, she isn't a Death Eater, Harry. Don't forget that I worked for Pius Thicknesse when he was minister, too."

UC: In a bar, about #4

"Y'know," said Harry, "your book. It's trash. I'm still angry about the things you say in it, but. But."
He paused for a minute to let the thought spool in his head. Rita, smart enough not to say anything, stole a quick glance down at the Quick-Quotes Quill: his eyes watery -- from the drink or the remembrances? -- young Potter seemed about...
"But thanks," he blurted. "Dumbledore was a man, just like the rest of us. Imperfect. I don't think I could've done what I had to do if I didn't..."
He stared into the remnants of his glass. Sensing now was not a good time to let Harry think, Rita said, "Thanks for the kind words, Harry. I'll have to use them as a pullquote on the next edition. Now, about the events at Hogwarts three days ago..."
Harry smiled. "Why Rita, I thought you would've had more than enough secondary sources for those festivities. Now, if you'll excuse me, I think it's time I get back to the... to the place I'm staying."
With a pull of his wand, a twist on the stool, and a loud crack, Harry Apparated out of the bar. The muggles in various stages of inebriation turned to look at Rita Skeeter, sitting alone at the little round table.
"Youngsters these days," she said with a lecherous grin. "They just aren't capable of dealing with a real woman."
And with that she walked through the door, up the stairs, and into the night.

UC: Dream #1

( Harry dreamed. )

Not the greatest, I'm more than willing to admit (and certainly in need of great proofreading justice). But I think I got on a roll there for a bit. This was one of the first scenes that popped in my head, maybe (with luck) I'll manage to weave it into an actual story.

UC: Leaving on an aeroplane
Thursday, 2 January 2014 21:51Originally posted at http://fdsf.livejournal.com/281114.html
The wizarding community, to his great annoyance, insisted that Harry was the gold standard of bravery. Many still believed that he entered the Triwizard Cup of his own volition, despite all he and Dumbledore had said. Harry felt that, ultimately, the reasons why he stood up to Voldemort were loyalty to Dumbledore and his parents, necessity, and ... 'though he wouldn't put it this way ... love.
As far as Harry was concerned, the bravest action in his life was getting aboard a jet plane.
"I really don't like this, Hermione," Harry (seat 34D) said. "I think we should've asked Mr. Weasley for a portkey. The Ministry must be capable getting people around the world without the hassle of being locked up in a plane for a day."
"Really," said Hermione (seat 34E). She whispered, "Considering how much you claim about being sick of all that attention in the wizarding world, I thought you'd be happy for a Muggle solution. And flying in an airplane is much less riskier than ... some of the other aerial experiences you've had. Just relax."

Thursday, 2 January 2014 21:43I'd tried the whole "import your LJ" functionality a few times a couple years ago, with mixed success. Then I attempted to use DW as a bridge to crosspost from FGJ to LJ, which (in addition to OH GAWD TOO MANY ACRONYMS) worked well enough, but doesn't really give any value to DW other than yet another place you can follow my incredibly infrequent blog posting.
So. I've cleared out all the LJ crossposts and migrated entries from 2003. Once again, I'm going to attempt to use this as a writing blog. It'll like be fanfic and gibberish, my apologies.
Why yes, it being January 2nd is entirely coincidental. Don't look at me like that!

Sunday, 3 January 2010 19:14Arr yarr yarr.
I have a plethora of blogs at the moment.
In addition to LiveJournal, which has been my home for many years, I have a wordpress blog, a tumblr, another wordpress install at UNBC, and even a blogger site hanging around somewhere (I think).
But I use them for different things. My tumblr, for example, is a repository of pictures, youtube videos, and other relatively pithy content. LJ is for venting, and following a few interesting communities. FGJ is my "official" blog for the folks and everyone to look at and see what I'm doing. And the others can just gather dust.
Now, this blog... ideologically, I totally support dreamwidth. I love the fork and their ethics. And I hope nothing but the best for DW in the future. But as is, almost of all of my contacts and subscriptions are still on LJ -- there's no reason for me to follow my "reading" page on DW.
But since I like DW, and I want to start using it more, I figure I should go ahead and give this blog purpose.
So yarr. I hereby declare this my writing blog. I'll make an effort to post here once a day, either with drabbles, story fragments, or at least a brief update on how much I've written.
This will coincide with (yet another) concerted effort to start writing again. Yes, I'm shy and scared of sharing my thoughts and phrases with the world, but fuck that noise. It's time to be brave and inflict my textual horror upon the world.
Arr.
