Zoe is 17 months old!

I have been woefully neglectful of our blog and I’m sorry!  Life just gets in the way sometimes.  But today, our dear sweet Zoe is 17 months old and I had to mark the occasion with some adorable photos and some notes about her milestones.

Gotta love those beautiful baby blue eyes!!

Zoe is a virtual whirlwind of activity from the time she gets up until she goes to sleep!  She runs, pushes her dolly and animals around in the doll stroller, climbs on the coffee table and dining room chairs, jumps (with some hand-holding help), builds and knocks down blocks and talks up a storm!

She has had a total word explosion and says a new word or several every day.  Her diction isn’t quite as clear as it used to be, but some words are crystal clear like Elmo and the names of the cats.  We have been upgraded to Mommy and Daddy in the last week and hearing her say it just melts my heart!

I’m not going to list all the words she says (that we can interpret), but just doing a quick list in my head, it’s over 40.  Snack, yellow, birdie, block, dolly and ride are current favorites.

Just yesterday, she climbed up on Brian’s chair at the dining room table, then climbed into her high chair on the chair next to it.  That was a first!  She can also go down stairs without sitting down anymore.

She definitely knows what she wants and isn’t shy about telling you!  She likes to drag us around by the finger, pointing to where she wants us and saying “Mommy!” while patting the ground or chair or wherever she wants me to be.  She’s kinda bossy, but so darn cute, it’s hard to say no!

She still really likes to eat and likes a big variety of foods, but is a little more picky than she used to be.  She will usually try just about anything but when she likes something, she wants “MOH!” and make it snappy.  If she could live on just a few foods, it would be yogurt, raspberries and cheese.  She won’t eat broccoli or cauliflower or usually carrots anymore, but loves fruit of almost any kind.  She’ll still eat kung pao chicken and pizza though  🙂

Zoe is up to 12 teeth and has been since just after her first birthday, when her first molars came in.  Her incisors have been working through for weeks, with intermittent periods of fussiness and poor sleeping, but they still haven’t made their appearance.

We are so blessed with our sweet, good natured, laid back kid.   She really is fun and a joy to be around, even with the normal toddler tantrums when she doesn’t get her way.  She is such a kick to interact with and it’s amazing how fast she’s growing and learning.

I go back to work full-time in just 10 weeks and I’d be lying if I said it didn’t make me incredibly sad.  I know that I have been incredibly blessed to have this year and a half of extra time with me and I am profoundly grateful.  I have found a couple of really nice daycare places that I think Zoe would be really happy in and in a lot of ways, I think it will be good for her to have more structured learning opportunities and socialization with other kids.  I’m just going to miss her TERRIBLY.  Not to mention I have no idea how I’m going to be on time, get everything done and still have time and energy to spend every waking moment with my girl.  So in the meantime, I’m going to savor every snuggle and giggle and do my best to make the transition as painless as I can, for both of us.

And not a day goes by that I’m not grateful the bottom of my soul for our beautiful daughter and the gift that she is to me every single day.  I can’t believe she’s 17 months old already.  It’s gone SO FAST.  But I’m excited to see what she’ll be like in the next year, two and beyond.

15 months old!

Zoe is 15 months old today!  It is absolutely amazing to see how much she’s learned and discovered in the last three months.  Besides running all over the place, starting to climb up tables, chairs and beds, learning to feed herself with a fork and spoon or a hundred other things, we have had an absolute word explosion in the last couple of weeks.  Every day, she starts saying a new word or two.  It’s so exciting to hear her little voice and to know that she is working on communicating with us!  Plus it’s just so darn CUTE!!

Here is a list of all the words that she’s said (more than once, in context) so far:

  • mama
  • dada
  • grandma
  • papa (grandpa)
  • Ella (the cat)
  • Abba (Abby, the cat)
  • hi, hello
  • bye, bye bye
  • yeah
  • no
  • whoa
  • wow
  • uh oh
  • yellow
  • purple
  • bubble
  • milk
  • apple
  • more
  • bottle
  • ball
  • button
  • water
  • bath
  • night night
  • nine
  • baby
  • wall
  • all done
  • no way
  • pillow
  • circle
  • and my personal favorite – I know!

She also can tell you what sounds the doggie, chicken, lion, cow, sheep saw, and sometimes a monkey or cat.  Her little lion rawwwr is about the cutest thing in the world!  It’s so hard to get video of her because as soon as she sees the camera, she usually stops doing whatever you’re trying to film.  But I got her to do most of the animals today!

Snapshots of Zoe’s first year

With Zoe walking and talking and getting into everything, it’s often hard to remember when she was an itty bitty.  The change has been so gradual that we don’t always notice the small things.  I updated the photo collage I did at 9 months to catch up with our big girl.  You can still see “her” in the teeny pics but she looks so much more like a kid than a baby now.  Amazing!

Image

But even more amazing that that comparison, at least to me, is THIS.  The sleeper she came home from the hospital in at 2 days old and the sleeper she is wearing on her 1st birthday (sized 18mo, by the way):

Image

Aside from her development in interaction, verbal skills, motor skills and the like, the sheer increase in her physical size in such a short time simply amazes me.  The human body is an astounding thing!  I am definitely keeping the sleeper that she came home from the hospital and might have to keep her 1 year one so that I can do this comparison again in another year.  It’s hard to imagine her much bigger than she is now but that’s not going to stop her from continuing to grow!

The Birthday Girl!!!

Our sweet Zoe is a year old!  It’s hard to believe how fast the last year has gone, how much she’s changed and how much joy and happiness she has brought to our lives in such a short time.  She is my joy and heart and I’m thankful every single day to be her mama!

But her favorite of all was a light-up egg that spun colorful lights when she pushed the button.  She likes pushing buttons  🙂

We went to lunch with my parents, aunt and Grandma at the Black Angus and it was tasty!!!

Happy Easter from the Cox Clan!

There she goes!!!!

I never thought I would be posting this video only a week after she walked with her toy for the first time, but when our girl decides she wants to do something, she’s determined!  We are so proud and excited!!!!

She is practicing steps all over but crawling is still her preferred (and fast) mode of transportation, at least for now.

I was kinda hoping for a late walker but at 10 1/2 months old, she’s ahead of the curve!  And perfect and wonderful in every way!!!

Look at her go!!!

I know I’m woefully behind on the blog and I promise to try to catch up soon, but today’s event is too exciting not to share right away!  Look at Zoe go!!!

My mom has the same toy at her house and put Zoe behind it, not expecting much.  She took off down the hallway!  I just had to show Daddy when we got home, so we tried it again and off she went.

Who knew it was possible to feel happy, proud, excited, sad, and terrified all at the same time!  I would be very surprised if she wasn’t full on walking by her 1st birthday in just 8 short weeks!!!

Zoe is 10 months old!

Zoe has hit the double digits for months!!  She continues to be an absolute delight, learning and changing and growing constantly!

At 10 months, Zoe………….

  • stands easily for up to 30 seconds
  • pulls up on everything, including moving things like the footstool for the rocking chair and the dishwasher rack
  • cruises along the furniture and transfers from one thing to another with a step or two
  • can squat to pick up something and return to standing without sitting
  • can swing toys around in her hands while not holding on to anything
  • bang toys together with precision and in repetition of a pattern you show her
  • crawls quickly, everywhere!
  • crawl while holding a toy in her hand or in her mouth
  • eats just about anything using her pincer grasp
  • drinks from a sippy cup, although she won’t tip it up herself
  • says Hi and Mama all the time, sometimes Dada and “baba”, which we haven’t interpreted yet!
  • points to Mama and Daddy in photos
  • gives hugs and kisses by request
  • waves hi and bye bye
  • has TWO teeth broken through (finally!)
    and finally, the BIG ONE……………………………
  • goes to sleep in her crib, by herself and SLEEPS THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!!!  (well, most nights, anyway.  And when she doesn’t, she only wakes up once!)

We are so proud of our sweet, smart, funny, loving little booger bear!!

Look who is finally getting the hang of crawling!

Her technique is…….interesting, but I bet she’s jetting around the house in no time!

We had sunshine today!!!!  And just a little bit of time between picking up Zoe at daycare and it getting dark, so we made our very first mommy & daughter trip to the park!

Zoe enjoyed a few minutes on the swing.

We also tried the merry go round, which she liked alot.

It was a bit chilly, but I love her pink little button nose!

I got this padded ottoman for Zoe’s room and she loves standing on it!  And eating the cushion.  It’s nice to have a safe place for her to practice standing in her room.  And the top comes off so I can store things in it!

More snow!!  Yipppppeeeeeee!

Zoe got to wear her new hoodie and new fuzzy booties for the cold, snowy day.  The shoes lasted on her feet almost as far as the car before they started falling off!  It’s so hard to keep any shoes on her tiny feet!!  But she sure looked cute in them  🙂

The picture is blurry, but it’s so funny, I had to post!  I was wondering when she was going to figure out this method of bringing something with her when she crawls!  HAHAHA!

“Hi Daddy!  Whatcha doin’ up there??”

Tonight was a momentous night.  After nine months of sleepless nights and endless, repetitive wake ups night after night, we finally bit the bullet and let her “cry it out”.  This meant putting her in her crib sleepy but awake, and checking on her every 3-8 minutes until she fell asleep.  It took 45 minutes, which wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, but she finally went to sleep on her own.  And in the morning we discovered…………………….

Fri, Feb 24, 2012
SHE SLEPT THROUGH THE NIGHT!!!  For the first time, ever, on her own.  I was astounded.  I was a huge skeptic and have been putting this off for months, but she actually did it.  I am SO proud and so happy!

She was in a good mood and had a good day.  It’s amazing what a good night’s sleep will do for you.  Of course, I stayed up until 3am waiting for the inevitable wake up that never came  😛  I need to work on MY sleep habits as well!

I pulled out some Baby Legs (baby leg warmers) that I had forgot about.  They’re a little tight on her chunky legs, but she found another fun use for them!

Highlights of the day:  Zoe………

  • did not sleep through the night two nights in a row, but only woke up once
  • pointed to Brian in a picture when I asked her where Daddy was  🙂
  • crawled all the way from her bedroom to the living room, the furthest distance so far, and
  • went with me to meet up with our friends at a local brew pub for a quick visit.
