Run 2 United (21 August 2011)

For the month of August, my run was limited to several short runs only as the weather condition was not cooperative.  My time to run was likewise reduced with my recent cross-posting from ADBS to ES.  As a good soldier, I have to follow order, prepare and equip myself at work while setting aside running for a while or until I can fully adjust in my new post.  This was further aggravated when I got sick as I was one of the victims of food poisoning in the office.

At any rate, I was able to participate in only one fun run of the bank which is a 5K course before I joined this Run 2 United.  With determination to run long, my husband and children went with me.  We conditioned ourselves that we will enjoy and finish the race.

The race was great will the usual trademarks of Coach Rio.  The marshals were adequate and strategically located especially in the main thoroughfares.  There were long tables for the hydration – water and powerade.  There were tents for the medics.  The ambulance was likewise available.  There were medals, finisher’s tshirts and loot bags for finishers.  I also saw some running friends.  The only negative comment I can mention is the technical problems when it comes to results.  As of this writing, my husband and I were not in the list of finishers.

Earth Run 2010

Last Sunday (April 18)  morning I ran for the earth but I will call that race as my own Ms. Congeniality Race.  I felt very good that I kept greeting and calling the names of all my runner-friends I met along the route.  Even after the race, I continued to be Ms. Congeniality wherein I took time to greet friends and started short conversation with some of them.  I also visited the Takbo.ph booth of a lovely couple Jinoe and Que.

For this race,  I volunteered to be with my youngest son in his first 16K.  My husband and my two children ran in the 21K which started at 5am.  Our category started at 5:30am  after the brief acknowledgement of runners with disability. There were so many runners but the race was well organized.

A day before there was an announcement that the organizers will not be providing sports drink but assured provision of sufficient water stations.  However, I noticed that most of all water stations were  provided with “innergize”, a new type of sports drinks.  I tried it but I am sorry, I suggest the maker should improve the taste.

It took for me a week to finish my post as I have to wait for the results which also took the same time.  I am happy to see my great time improvement which I want to give credit to the Galloway Strategy.  This newly discovered strategy really works good for me.   I hope this would be very useful in my forthcoming TBR Dream Marathon next month.

ROLP 2010 FIESTA RUN

To celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, the ROL Parish in BF Homes Paranaque sponsored a 5K fun run on Easter Sunday.  It was participated by 125 runners. My son Sam and I registered and joined. My friends Tiffin and Mark, Ka Totoy, Eric and Ems likewise joined.

It was a simple race manned by runners from the Araw Running Club wherein all members were able to complete a full marathon during their prime.  I salute the organizers and members of the club for this very successful event.

Globe Run for Home

On March 20, 2010, our  family ran in the Globe Run for Home.  It was a race which was able to generate and donate P1M for the Habitat for Humanity. Therefore, runners were able to help build homes and rebuild lives!

I was not in my best condition that day but the thought of being a part of this race perked me up.  I was further encouraged to go on when the excitement of other runners  in the starting line rub-off on me.

The race was the first to be organized and held in Makati Business District.  The route led us to the Fort up to the Heritage Park.  I found the course  challenging even though we had run and tried this before from the opposite direction.  Thanks that there were plenty of marshals, and abundant water/beverage stations to keep me going.

One thing I observed during the race was the affirmation that kindness is one among the best characters of runners.   I witnessed a scenario when one runner leaped as he can hardly move his legs, then suddenly another runner stopped and offered his handkerchief to be tied to the leg of the ailing runner.  What a sight to behold, a good Samaritan still exists in this present time.

Running and racing gave me the opportunity to meet new friends. Through this Globe Race , I was able to gain new friend again in the person of Recy from San Miguel.  We ran together up to the finish line.   After the race, we met the Happy Feet gang led by Dhang.  In general, this was a good race and we had a lot of fun.

BULL RUN 2010

The Bull Run 2010 is my family’s first race this year.  All of us including my youngest child did the 10K.  It was his first attempt to conquer a distance longer than 5K.  When he requested me to register him in that category, I lovingly obliged despite some doubts and apprehension.  Well, the time to judge his capability came this morning.

Prior to the race, we invited him to pace with anyone of us but he declined.  He assured us that he can finish it alone, no matter what.  I wanted to believe that the “never-say-die” spirit of my husband and I is already embedded in the character of my youngest child.  Moreso, I know deep in my heart that he will be as strong-willed and independent as his two siblings.

Going back to the race, I can say that the Bull Run 2010 is a very good starter for the year.  I am very happy about it. The organizers were able to attend to the minutest details from the registration with door to door delivery option at reasonable price, good quality singlets, knowledgeable race marshals, ample water stations, and safe route.  I hope most of the runners were likewise satisfied. The only downside, and a bit discouraging was the very long queue for the giveaways which we decided to forgo.  I hope the results will be available within the week to make this race a nearly perfect one not only for me but more importantly for my youngest child who finished it too.

Before and after the race, I also found happiness in meeting and talking with some friends like Dennis and Andrei, Bro J and Baby, Rico, Geraldine, Jess and Mon.  But of course, the primary source of my joy is my family and the pleasure of running with them.  Thank you, Unica Ija for pacing with me.

OctobeRun Festival 2009

OctobeRun is my first run after the typhoon “Ondoy”.  I was registered in the 16K category and because of too much physical, and social activities the past week, I decided to run without any target or pressure on myself.  Instead, I planned to enjoy and relax  while running without being bothered by speed or rank.  My ultimate goal is simply to finish the race.

After running for two hours, I was able to complete my 16K with a big smile in my face and contentment in my heart.  I was able to do what I love doing.  I got new found energy not only for my body but for my mind too.  Moreover, I was also able to burn so much calories thus dissolving fats accumulated in my system.

Eco Dash : The Ayala Malls Environment Run

My run yesterday was truly fulfilling despite the fact that at first I hesitated to leave the comfort of our bed in that rainy and cold morning.  If not only for eating a lot of sansrival and yema the past few days, I can tolerate myself , go back to sleep and ignore the Eco Dash Run.

But first and foremost, I really love to run.  Second, my partner decided to get up and go, thus as a submissive wife, I must also go. We tried to invite the kids but they were under the spell of their dreams so we just allowed them to enjoy their slumber as we proceeded to leave our home.

When we reached the venue, running addicts (runners of all forms) were all over the place unmindful of the rain. So, we fixed our things and immediately joined them in the starting corral.  I was looking for friends or familiar faces but cannot find one.  Maybe, most them joined the 21K or the other races that day.

The race started a bit late or five minutes before 6am when the typhoon was already pouring its heavy rain.  We practically ran wet, right from the start to finish.  We were all dripping from head to toe. After the race, I got nothing dry within me. But, of course the sense of accomplishment and achievement was so gratifying.

Let me share my thoughts to all middle aged women out there who would also like to accomplish something, such as running in the rain:

first – you must simply love to run and love what you are doing

second – you must enjoy every moment of doing what you love

third – you must count the benefits you will reap  like the calories you will burn

With these in mind, no obstacle or distraction will ever bother you in your pursuit to run and improve yourself.

My First 1,000K

There was no fanfare, no photo op, no race but I accomplished what I wanted in a very simple and plain run in the rain with my partner for life…that’s how I attained my first 1,000K.

Last week, I was looking forward to join the Masters Run with the intent of completing my first 1,000K in that race  which I anticipated to be very enjoyable as it was organized by the Bald Runner.  And with my goal almost within my reach, I wanted to complete it  in a very memorable way, so full of excitement  I sent my representative to register me.  A night before the race, I prepared myself and my things for the race.  I sat the alarm and slept early.  However, at 3 in the morning, my partner told me that he is not feeling well but willing to accompany me to the race.  As much as I love to, I should prioritize my husband’s welfare before my run.  I told him we can forgo running the Masters as there will be next time.  Moreso,  the rain kept on pouring and the streets in our subdivision were already flooded so I thought that maybe there is another and better plan for me.  Maybe,  I really have to finish my target mileage in the meek and simple way.

Menshealth All-Terrain Race

It was our second trail race after the TNF 100 in Clark last month and we were all excited to join this Menshealth All Terrain Race (MATR).  This race promised to give runners adventures and challeges in the man-made trail prepared for this event.  Well, true enough, the MATR delivered its promises.  We enjoyed the maze-like trail and we have fun.  We met new friends again and  same old faces.  The frequent meeting and bumping with other runners developed some sort of bonding among runners turned friends.

Now I would like to share some pictures taken which will vividly described our family’s experience.

Mizuno Infinity Run 2009

Last Sunday, after a week of no-run,  I was too eager to join the Mizuno Infinity Run 2009 .  But, when we arrived at the Fort, 15K runners were gone.  I was told that the race already started more than 5 minutes ago.   We were late!

Despite that  situation, Jun and I tried to catch up. On our first kilometer, we maintained our pace together but when Jun increased his pace I slowed down as I have to make sure I will finish this one.  As I ran alone, I dedicated my run to my God.  I  offered him thanksgiving and praises while running.  I also took this opportunity to test my patience and perseverance.  I tried to prove my self-worth and character as a person and not only as a runner.  I really love long distance running as I can sort so many thoughts and plans in my mind considering that I have to assume greater responsibilities at work few days from now.

My Mizuno Race may not give me a better time as I officially clocked 2:08:45 which is even longer than my Slimmer’s 16K but the contentment and revitalization in my body and spirit made the difference.  It was also a great time seeing and saying hellos to running friends like Rene, Jinoe, Bards, Rico, Mar and many more.
