Feels Good to Be BACK.... to Blogger!!

Image

Inspired by family asking to send updates on the kids, I have returned to blogger!!! And it feels good to be back! Looking at the last pictures that I posted, I realize how fast our family changes. This is a great way to document our changes and adventures, so here goes...

Image
Paul GRADUATED from the U of U with an MBA in May!!!!! We are so proud of him, and so happy for the blessing of being able to make it happen! The kids are so happy to have him home more and freed from the chains of homework and study groups! We have been able to spend so much more time together doing the simple fun things that we spent two years missing. He is still running Capital Financial Global, and plans to stay with it.

Elizabeth is going to kindergarten in the Fall! I cannot believe how fast the time has gone! She is a crazy fun girl with many interests and talents. She is learning to read and do beginning math, she loves doing homework and workbooks. She soaks up information as fast as we can give it to her. Hopefully her love for learning will go with her to school :-) She had her second dance performance in May, and also performed a karate routine at her 4 Year Old Preschool Graduation. She had a great time with spring soccer, but HATED having to take her earrings out to play! This summer we have spent way too much time at the pool already, but Elizabeth is loving every second!

Hailey is as sweet as ever, with a personality all her own! She is stubborn and spirited, while also shy and meek... what an interesting combination!!! She is less interested in coloring and writing, but loves to problem solve. She asks WHY?? about a hundred times every day. She is also very talented with varied interests. She performed in May with Elizabeth at the Winner School Dance Concert, but also had a great session of gymnastics! Hailey is super flexible and has natural musicality, gymnastics really helped give her some strength. She learned some great tricks, but her favorite was the balance beam.

Johnny is an animal!!! or actually (if you ask him) a SUPERHERO!!! He loves to run and chase the girls all around the house screaming and growling, then jumping down the stairs and ending with a "cartwheel". He is very vocal and has great pronunciation! He is amazing on all our electronic devices, especially the iPADS. He is a creature of habit and loves to have things just so. His big event was POTTY TRAINING at the beginning of the summer. We were so proud of him and he is already sleeping through the night dry! Johnny loves to play with his trucks, dinosaurs, tigers, and dance to music. He also did gymnastics with Hailey. He has a surprising strength to weight ratio and can hang on the bars forever!

I know, THEY ARE DARLING!!!

ImageAS the craziness of the dance/school year is coming to an end. I am finally getting a chance to relax and enjoy my little darlings! With no where to go and nothing in particular to get done (other than the usual laundry and cleaning), I am less inclined to hush their laughs and cries, and loose my mind and temper when they refuse to cooperate.

Although the weather has been HIDEOUS! we have spent the few warm days so far, planting and playing in the yard. I get so excited when the kids can run and laugh, scream and play in the backyard. Their enthusiasm reminds me to stop and smell the flowers, sit in a chair and soak up the sun. I am so looking forward to days at the pool and hikes in the mountains that I can hardly contain myself.

For now, I will stare out the window, curse the rain, and eat some PB&J!!!

We ARE Still Here!

Image
WARNING: I am sick and very tired... rambling may occur.... continue at your own risk!

As much as there is nothing out of the ordinary going on, we are very busy. We can start with Elizabeth. About 2 weeks ago I took Elizabeth off GLUTEN. She was complaining about back pain and having 8-12 bowel movements a day. After 2 days off she accidentally ate some animal crackers and had diarrhea the entire next day. My plan with her is to go 6 weeks gluten free, and then re-introduce gluten for 2 weeks and see if it makes her sick. During her time back on gluten we will have her blood tested the celiac markers that are there. In the meantime, every week I pick up the snack and lunch schedule from her school and drive all over the earth to purchase her the same items they are having in a gluten free version. I have amazingly found: chicken nuggets, corn dogs, mac and cheese, and all kinds of tasty snacks. Although it hasn't been very long, she is already asking me when I give her something, "Mom, is this gluten free?" We went to the Cheesecake Factory this week for dinner and Hailey got a cheese pizza, the only thing they had on the children's menu that was GF was a grilled chicken breast. Elizabeth was starving and the look on her face when Hailey got pizza and she got a charred chicken breast was heart breaking. So I distracted her (as any good mother would) asking the waiter to bring out strawberries and whipped cream with the rest of the food... whew, it was a close one! Other than that Elizabeth is doing really great. She loves her reading class and has passed off Book 1 and Book 2, and maybe 15 sight words. Her funniest antics lately include speaking "Spanish" to Hailey, Paul, and I, and then offering her own translations.

Hailey is doing great other than the runny nose that has lasted for six months. She is developing so much of her own personality and is starting to fight with Elizabeth as she has her own preferences and ideas on things. Hailey loves her baby dolls and any dolls that she can carry more than one in a hand. She will bring them to me in the morning and set them up, sitting up, on the pillow while she waits for me. She is very particular on the way that she wants things done and will loose her mind if you don't comply. I hear "no mommy not like that".. "mommy I SAID"... Mommmmmmm"-- about 8 times before I finish eating breakfast. I am to the point now, that when she refuses to wear whatever clothes I have picked and re-picked 27 times for the day, I just drop them on the floor and say 'okay, then dress yourself' at which point she laughs and runs over to obey. Little stinker. She love to snuggle and loves to watch movies. We are finding out that she is a surprisingly good singer and remember words to songs accurately, that she has never heard before. In her preschool class, she still loves to do art and is starting to tell me about her "friends". When you ask her "Hailey who loves you?" She generally answers " Mommy loves me, and Daddy, and Elibazeth (aka Elizabeth) and brother, abuela loves me and abuelo, and Jaden and Ella love me, Missa loves and Duke, and Grandma and Grandpa, and on and on and on.... And someone told me that she needs more love?

Johnny is love charmer of the family. No one can seem to get over how ABSOLUTELY ADORABLE he is. Even when he throws a tantrum, which he is starting to do, he is so adorable that I make him mad- because I am smiling at hi. So he gets even madder and leaves the room. Adorable. Johnny sleeps through the night 10-11 hours and still takes 2 naps a day. Combine that with his "Paul like" appetite and you can see why we can say even at 14 months --- He's a big boy!!! Johnny is walking and running all over the place. The few days that we have had sun, he has been able to spend a lot of time outside. He SCREAMS when you try to bring him in the house. He loves the sounds and dirt and rocks. Sometimes he'll just sit next to me on the step and swing his legs. Adorable. He is also at the age where he thinks that he can talk. So he jabbers at me for a few minutes before stopping to look at me as if to say "Did you get that?" The girls love to dance and because Johnny loves music so much, it makes sense that he would join right in. So he will start to bend his knees until he bends so low that his bum hits the floor and he falls. He learned from watching Elizabeth how to turn in a circle. Only he gets so dizzy 3/4 of the way around that he can't stop laughing and looses his balance. Adorable.

Really, for all the craziness and stress that comes with just tying to get by, I am lucky to be reminded so often how lucky I am to be where I am with who I'm with. I do occasionally leave all the dishes in the sink, and the sticky crap on the floor so that I can say, "Ladies and Gentlemen- Presenting the Dancing Girls and Little Johnny" and then watch my kiddies show their stuff. And sometimes after just hanging out all day Elizabeth will say, " Mom this was the best day EVER!"

GINGERBREAD HOUSES!!!

ImageThis was my 6th Year!!!!! making gingerbread houses at Christmas- a tradition that Mariel started who knows how many years before I came around. And every year, it is equally as fun and all the participants get more and more creative! This year, for the the first time, we made the houses on Christmas Day. Some of our "usuals" consequently did not make a showing this year. ( We missed you Steve and Rick)

Here are the fruits of our labors...

Hailey Turned 2 on Friday, very exciting! 2 is such a fun birthday because, they get it! Hailey walked around all day saying, "It's my bird-day!" She picked out a Tinkerbell (aka Pinkabell) birthday cake and party plates- that she carried around for at least 2 days!

Now that she is two:

Hailey goes potty like a Big Girl most of the time.
Attends preschool and nursery without any tears.
Loves to play pretend with her dollies.
Love to run wild and dance with her big sister.
Sings her ABCs, counts to 10 (in English and Espanol), is learning colors and shapes.
LOVES pizza and applesauce.
LOVES doing any kind of art project.
LOVES watching movies.
Bosses her little brother around.
Bosses her mom around.
And says, "NO, I not a diva... you a diva!"

Hailey is an affectionate, stubborn, loving, kind little darling! We are so happy she is a part of our family. Our blessed little middle child!

Happy Thanksgiving!

ImageOh, the first bite of pie! ...and the gluttony that is Thanksgiving. Is there any better way to celebrate gratitude, than stuffing ourselves with comfort food and then "vegging out" with friends and family?! I think not!

Life is good, come what may!

Starting the Season Off RIGHT!

ImageWith Disney on Ice of course! And skeptic though I may have been... I would go again and pay double for the look on Hailey's face when Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Daisy came skating out on to the ice. Hailey shouting "Hi Minnie, HI MINNIE, HI MINNIE, HI MINNIE!!!!"- eyes literally bugging out of her head, complete with trembling... I am certain it was the high point of her two year old life! Thanks Amy for making it possible.

Image...oh and don't worry- we sat on the FRONT ROW!!! WOOHOO!!!
