I apologize for using Tobias' journal but I'm on my phone at the moment and would also rather not clutter up the other comms for a post that's temporary anyway (and I'm a dumb who can't remember the password to her personal journal, apparently), BUT here's what you gotta do-

If you want your character to participate (forced or not) in a Secret Santa present exchange at a Christmas party at the Future Foundation HQ, just leave a comment here! In a couple hours or so I'll get our old friend RNG to help me roll for the people you guys will be getting stuff for. Once you've got your names the log will be up soon after so you can start gift giving and mingling and being all jolly and such.

You aren't obligated to keep who you got a secret, but it also might be fun to wait until you post to the log to reveal who you're giving a present to. (Also once you've got your person please no tradesies or asking for another person- but I know you guys are cool and probably wouldn't anyway.)

All comments are screened for extra secrecy!

IN CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Tobias “Fangor”
Canon: Animorphs (OU), Dangan Roleplay (CRAU)
OU/AU/OC: AU
Canon Point: Post Book 23, The Pretender + Post-murder in Dangan Roleplay
History: Tobias on Seerowpedia!

In the midst of Book 3, The Encounter, Tobias was dragged to Hope’s Peak Academy by forces unknown to participate in a “School Life of Mutual Killing” along with 29 other students. For the first three weeks, Tobias had no memories of having his morphing abilities, and therefore spent his days living as a hawk. On the fourth week he regained that memory and had the ability to shift between five different forms: hawk (his normal form, his real body), human, hork-bajir, raccoon, rabbit, and bat.

Tobias grew close with many of the students, the most notable being Elfangor (whom he knew before arriving at Hope’s Peak, and I’ll elaborate on that further later), Schuldig, and Anna. He was also close with Professor Sycamore and Lysandre, and they gave him PokePuffs to survive off of since he rarely had any appetite for raw meat (and even rarer still were the times when he got actual live mice to eat from the Monomono Machine.) Schuldig in particular was an especially important figure for Tobias, and following the Monkey Fever motive of week 4 (which resulted in Schuldig becoming deaf and Tobias becoming blind) the two lived together and functioned as a unit to keep each other safe during the week.

During week 5 (on Father’s Day no less) Sycamore gave Elfangor the letter that had been meant for Tobias, stating that the alien Prince was Tobias’ father. Elfangor met with Tobias later that day and told him the truth in the words of the letter, and the boy was both overwhelmed and overjoyed to hear that he actually had his father with him, alive and well. …At least, for now.
Five days later, early Friday morning, Tobias went for a walk to practice walking in his human morph, while Elfangor went to one of the Greenhouses to graze. He thought he was alone on the third floor, but in fact wasn’t and had been spotted by one of his fellow students, Jay Sasser. Jay Sasser intended to murder someone, and Tobias was the first person he saw- weak enough, he assumed, to not fight back.

Jay attempted to choke Tobias to death with a length of rope, but Tobias was able to get enough leverage to push his attacker away. Jay pulled out a knife and stabbed Tobias in the abdomen, forcing him to run away and try to demorph. Morphing heals injuries, so Tobias assumed that if he could get into something big to protect himself, he would be okay. Meanwhile, he yelled for Elfangor’s help in thought-speak (a form of speech used in morph like telepathy) before ducking into the Physics Lab.

He demorphed into hawk, but unfortunately Jay caught up with him and shut them both inside the Lab. After getting a few good hits in with his talons, Tobias was struck down by Jay after he threw his knife and it stabbed him through the wing. Seconds before Elfangor arrived on the scene, Jay grabbed Tobias and broke his neck, killing him instantly.

Personality:

Tobias is often called a dreamer, and his imagination is vast. He grew up in a pretty terrible family situation with an aunt and uncle who didn’t care about him, both content to simply ship him off to the other whenever they possibly could. Tobias never had many friends at school and was actually bullied pretty severely on a regular basis. The only friends in the world he could ever claim to have after becoming a nothlit (someone who has been permanently trapped in morph) are the other Animorphs.

Being a nothlit has its advantages and disadvantages. Tobias is the designated lookout for the group, using his powers of flight, impeccable vision, and super hawk hearing to keep a look out for danger when they’re having meetings or are on missions. He seems to be quick to adapt to his new lifestyle in some ways, using his abilities to lookout for secret Yeerk Pool entrances. Beyond being more powerful physically than he ever was as a normal human kid, it’s clear that becoming a hawk has actually aided in making Tobias a stronger, more independent person. Hawks are loners- they can’t rely on others to help them or they would never survive, as if they would want to. Tobias effectively transitions from a sweet, quiet boy who is a constant bully target, to a steely predator with a permanent scowl.

While Tobias now shares the instincts of the hawk, he is still a kid. A kid who has been forcefully thrown into an intergalactic war that none of them ever asked for. He was the first to ever use the morping powers, and he loved it. He was also pressing the hardest to join the fight to stop the Yeerks, refusing to let Elfangor’s death be in vain. It is impressive the amount of wherewithal that Tobias seems to have despite his shortcomings. He’s driven and determined to do whatever it takes to wipe the parasites from the planet they call home.

Tobias’ time in DRP has changed him for the better, whether he realizes it or not. He came into this place in the midst of a full blown identity crisis. For several weeks, he would barely eat, nearly starving himself to the point of having to be forced to eat something. But seeing the way people were dying all around him gave Tobias a real kick in the pants, so to speak. He was forced to figure himself out quickly to avoid complications in the future, especially since he knew that- being the only student that was a bird- he would be the easiest target if someone wanted to try to kill. All they would need to do would be to lock him in a room and he would be done for. He had to be careful with who he trusted, and a single mistake in the end ultimately took his life.

Strengths:

Upon meeting Tobias and his friends in the abandoned construction site, Prince Elfangor broke the law of his own people and gave the children something no creature other than Andalites could ever possess- the power to morph. The power to transform into any animal that they can touch. The same is true with Tobias. Though he remained in his hawk morph for longer than two hours and became trapped as a nothlit, a mysterious being known as the Ellimist gave Tobias back his morphing powers. He even bent time in such a way that Tobias was able to acquire the DNA of his former human self. The catch is the fact that Tobias’s true body is now his hawk body, resulting in him having to remain in his hawk body to acquire animals’ DNA. If Tobias morphed into his human form and remained that way for 2 hours, he would be permanently human…unable to morph ever again. Though Tobias is a lot more quiet and reserved than the rest of the kids, he’s driven to fight just as much as any of them. Heck, he’s suffered more thanks to the Yeerk invasion than anyone else, full stop. He also has nothing to lose, making him a perfect candidate for the resistance.

As far as MLJ is concerned, the morphing rules would still apply. The limit is two hours, lest he risk being permanently stuck in that form. (Though here, it would probably result in just an automatic forced demorph.) Tobias has a personal rule about acquiring the DNA of any person, so he won’t be going around acquiring other ponies or Equestrians any time soon. However, it also might be difficult for him to find animals that aren’t sentient here…

Weaknesses:

Being a nothlit is a huge burden on Tobias that none of his friends will likely ever be able to understand. He feels a sense of alienation with them during the time prior to getting his morphing returned by the Ellimist, constantly frustrated that he can’t join the others on most of their missions due to his handicap. Tobias struggles with his identity as the line between human and hawk becomes blurred. While he does eventually come to embrace his new, forced lifestyle, there is always a voice in the back of his head asking “what if?” And it’s not as easy as just morphing back into a human for two hours and becoming stuck permanently in that form. To do so would mean to relinquish his powers, taking him out of the fight for Earth. He assumes he would likely lose the only friends he has in the world, including Rachel, though she claims otherwise. How could they continue to be friends with him when his very existence is a threat to their cause? The answer: he couldn’t.

It should be noted that since Tobias was murdered before he arrives in Equestria, he will have some issues regarding exactly what happened to him. Being a predatory bird, he is already adverse to being touched, but someone trying to reach for him- particularly anywhere near his neck- has the potential to send him into an outright panic. He also cannot handle being trapped in a closed room and has trouble with small spaces to begin with. Anything closed in with a ceiling is apt to make him anxious and uneasy. And he might be a bird, but he's still very young (~13-14 years old), so a lot of what happened to him has affected him severely, mentally. Just as he suffered nightmares due to bad morphing experiences, battles, or otherwise, he will suffer nightmares about his time in Hope's Peak.

Possessions:

- A small toy replica of a Deinonychus

Pony/Animal Type: Red-Tailed Hawk | Pony form: Pegasus Pony
NOTE: I’m also filling out the information for a potential pony form for Tobias, since he will have his morphing abilities- since human is one of them, it will automatically default to pony. The image below shows both his hawk form and pony form.

First Person:

[How does a bird with no hands use these scrolls properly? We just don’t know, but apparently it doesn’t matter that much here. Tobias is finding out real fast that his wings are surprisingly more…dexterous here than they were back home.
Also he can talk. That’s a thing he can do.]

So…I have a question. There seem to be a lot of normal animals around here, like rabbits and foxes and things like that. ...

[They’re…marginally cuter than normal, but that’s beside the point.]

But we’ve got talking ponies here too, so I’m having a hard time believing that that’s…all there is. Like, I’m pretty sure I’ve spoken to a dragon. A dragon.

Can someone give me an idea of what else there is here?

[You know. Purely curiosity speaking, here.
He shifts a bit on his talons before continuing, quickly.]

And uh….can everything talk here? Because I’m having trouble separating the talking animals from the non-talking ones. ..Including myself, at this point…

[He grumbles a little before the scroll rolls up and the message ends.]

Third Person:

For the first time in months, Tobias was flying again. Actually flying. Even after being in this place for a few weeks now, it was still hard to believe.

He couldn’t help but let his beak part in a loud yell of exultation as he let a thermal push him up, up, up into the clouds, well above the heads of the Pegasus Ponies working atop them. Compared to him, they were practically earth bound. Tobias was the master of the sky.
He was finally home.

He rose higher and higher, letting the cushion of air carry him up so high that the town was a mere speck below, though to his eyes he could see everything as clearly as if it was only a few feet away. From there he spread his wings and began to soar, flying over the town and over Sweet Apple Acres, his eyes falling on the groups of ponies carrying carts of apples away from the trees.

It was hard to believe. He was actually outside again in the fresh air, flying high in the sky with absolutely nothing trapping him again. He never had to go back inside again, if he really didn’t want to. And up here? Up here he was safe. No murderous bears and no killing games.

No friends, no Animorphs, no fathers to spend Father’s Day with and share his birthday cake.

…But he was free, at least.
